I ran this race in 2013. I was signed up in 2012, unfortunately the race was cancelled(police orders due to weather) and they offered us a steep discount in 2013. I did the 10 mile, my husband did the 5K. This race lives up to it’s name! Those hills sure were challenging. But, I enjoyed the course(I’m a sick person who likes hills) — it was through some pretty areas of Lemont, only a few out-and-back sections, so definitely kept things interesting. The race was chip-timed, and immediately after finishing you could get a print up with your official time and standings. Post-race, they had lots of food — I think the typical water and stuff, but they also had delicious pizza and Summer Shandy beer. My only complaint is the shirt, while a long sleeve tech shirt, is unisex and doesn’t really fit me very well. Other things I appreciated — free parking near the start/finish, they had water set out near the start line, which I always appreciate, they had ample water stations on the course(it was chilly — even snowed a little bit — despite being mid-April). They aso offer race-day bib pick-up, ALWAYS a plus. The awards were rocks(from a local quarry?) — very unique, sadly I did not win one — just have to try harder next year! This race does not offer finishers medals, which is fine with me, frankly, I think those are a bit overdone.
