It’s been said that if you love what you do, you’ll never work a day in your life. For Jon Kupchin, finding what he loved in life came at the tender age of seventeen. Hired to drive the tow truck to bring in wrecked cars in what was then the Santa Fe Body Shop, Kupchin was the only driver for over a year. When he realized how much he loved towing vehicles, he decided to build his future on it.

The Santa Fe Body Shop was established in 1963 by Jon’s parents. When he founded Santa Fe Tow Service Jon based it on the same principles taught by his parents: work hard, be knowledgeable, take care of the customer, and take care of your employees.

Jon put those principles to work and what began as a young man’s dream with one truck and one driver, has grown into a successful business with over fifty-five trucks in operation, sixty-five employees, and a 9000 square foot headquarters building with a five-acre lot. Based in Lenexa, Kansas, we also own impound lots in Shawnee Mission and Olathe, Kansas, and a terminal in Joplin, Missouri. The bodyshop is still going strong today and is now owned by Jon’s brother.

I called Santa Fe Tow the week of June 25^th.
I asked them to move a storage shed and set up an appointment for June 29^th.
My husband took off work to make sure that I did not have to worry about the transition. (we live in the country and it is hard to find)
I finally called around 1:00 and asked for Pat. Pat seemed appalled that I expected him or his company to perform as they had promised because they were short handed. I was spoken to in the exact phase, «That’s not going to happen! Were shorthanded!».
I understand that things come up, but why didn’t they just call and tell me instead of my husband waiting around for them?
Thinking that I just caught Pat in the wrong moment, I called back the next week, TWICE, and messages. I NEVER received a call back.
If you are depending on someone to get you out of a rut, DO NOT CALL THIS COMPANY!
They were going to charge me $ 300.00 for their service.
I went to another tow company and they only charged me $ 154.00.
That says it all!

In my attempt to be as forgiving and balanced as possible, I’m throwing out my utter dislike with my current apartment building’s policies and shadyness.
In reality, my lack of attentiveness resulted in the towing of my vehicle by Sante Fe Towing because of my building’s need to do some pavement work in the lot where I happened to be parked. Stupid me.
Result? Picture me walking 2 miles to pick up said vehicle with every nasty thought trickling through my mouth and mind. Suffice to say, I was pissed. But, it was my fault and the people at Sante Fe were very nice, so much so as to laugh hysterically at my joke about putting the bill on my bathroom mirror as a reminder of my incompetence. :)
I guess they did a good job because when I woke up in the morning, my means of transporation had vanished David Copperfield style. It made the journey in one piece and waited for me to arrive to pay up.
I think the rates are outrageous though. $ 150 for just the first day. Since I was completely caught off guard by the hijacking, thankfully I was able to get over there the same day or the fee would of increased upward to $ 300. That just isn’t right.
Kind service but high prices = ONLY get towed if you need it, NOT because you’re an idiot. It makes all the difference. :)
