Sun Journal is a medium sized newspaper covering the Central Maine counties of Androscoggin, Oxford and Franklin. Our main office is located in Lewiston, Maine with branch offices in Norway, Rumford and Farmington.

Sun Media Group is the parent organization of the Sun Journal and 11 weekly newspapers around Southern, Central and Western Maine. The weekly papers include the Forecaster group in Southern Maine, the Norway Advertiser Democrat, Rumford Falls Times, Bethel Citizen, Franklin County Journal, Livermore Falls Advertiser, the Rangeley Highlander and the Penobscot Times in Old Town. Sun Media Group also operates a web based content management and news distribution company called Celsius Technologies, various news web sites and Sun Press, a commercial printing operation.

Sun Media Group also provides its advertisers with digital agency services, providing social media, email, search engine, website, blogging, video, mobile, and reputation management services to help local businesses build their brands online, connect with their communities on social media, and develop campaigns that resonate with an online audience.

History

Established in 1847.

The Sun Journal, established in 1847, is a fourth generation, privately held company that publishes one daily newspaper and eleven weekly newspapers. Collectively, these newspapers employ over 200 people. The newspapers are committed to the employees, the customers and to the communities. A high priority on continued investment in its people and infrastructure has been consistent since the early days of the company’s founding. The new distribution facility in the downtown is the most recent example of this commitment. The $ 5.3 million expansion project of the Sun Journal building included the construction of a 14,600 square foot packaging and distribution center as well as land and equipment acquisitions. Sun Journal ownership and employees are very involved in the communities giving almost 5,000 hours of volunteer time to over 55 different community organizations and non-​profits and donating over $ 250,000 in cash and services.
