We specialize in carrying a wide range of high quality wine, beer, and liquor products. We spend a lot of time tasting and learning so that our staff is knowledgeable, and we try to bring in products that offer great value to our customers. We also carry fun and varying food and specialty items.

History

Established in 1909.

Berman’s Market was established in 1909 by the same family that runs it to this day. The market, now run by Joel Berman, began when Joel’s grandfather drove a horse drawn wagon up and down Massachusetts Avenue, selling meat door to door.

The market progressed and following prohibition, Joel’s grandfather was offered the first available liquor license in town due to his kind generosity to those who did not have enough money to pay him during the depression.

Joel quickly developed a passion for wine, and as soon as you step through the door (employee or customer), you can not help but get bit by his enthusiasm. We now have one of the strongest wine and beer selections in the state, and Joel’s long standing relationships in the industry help us find hard to get and exciting new products all the time.

Overall a good store with knowledgable tastings and decent selection. One of the clerks always makes me feel really unwelcome, though, and it makes it really difficult to want to continue shopping here when there are so many other options close by…

I came here to get ice because the silly convenience store I went to first had a $ 10.00 min to use my debit card. Boy, am I glad that happened. This place is awesome! The staff is so friendly. The cashier even helped me carry my ice to the car because I ended up buying a few bottles of wine and some of the tasty chocolate treats they keep up at the front. They also carry JP Licks ice cream… just FYI. This place is great, and accidentally stumbling in Berman’s made my day. I’ll definitely be back!

This store is great. The lady who works there helped me pick out a fabulous bottle of Cabernet. For a small shop, the selection is really good. They have a great selection of craft beers also. Found my new go-​to packie.

This little shop is full of treasures: ice cream, pickles, cookies, sherry ketchup, BBQ sauce. Warm and accommodating people. Better prices on beer and cider than the competition. Artisanal appeal without any pretentiousness. Recommended!

we stopped by berman’s wine & spirits while on the way to a friend’s house in arlington, and it seemed like they had a great selection. i could have easily spent a long time browsing the wine aisles, and they were clearly sorted by regions and type.
the staff was also very friendly. they asked me if i needed any assistance while i was browsing, but also let me roam around without hovering. prices were moderate, about what i expected for the location, and it was easy to find selections in the price range that i was looking for. it was also very clean and well kept.

I live quite close to this store and I do see that over last several years they dramatically improved the beer selection. No need to go to Cambridge for beer selection anymore. Their craft beer selection is top notch. They also organize beer and wine tastings. Way to go. Finally a beer store in the burbs. The personnel is very knowledgeable too.

Did you ever wish you could stand at the beer cooler and just grab one bottle of each? Get thee to Berman’s… near the Arlington/​Lexington line. Go to the back room to find several shelves of individual beers so you can make your own packs — or just one or two beers. They have a wild selection of craft beers that I would never try by the six-​pack, so this is the chance to try them — one by one! If you prefer, the individuals also include the standard brands, Heineken, Bud, etc. They each have their own price — my last selection of 12 ran $ 24, so average of $ 12 for a six-​pack. If you wanted just the standard brands, the prices would be lower.
You have to have alot of willpower to resist the sweets at the front counter — chocolate covered Oreos, anyone?

This is my go-​to place for wine since it’s close to my apartment and they have quite the selection. The prices for a bottle of wine are typical to what you see elsewhere but they do have some decent bottles on sale so if you’re looking for a good deal you might find one here. The staff is helpful and will offer to assist in your selection. Berman’s has a bunch of craft beer too but it’s not my thing so I can’t really say if it’s a good selection or not. If you’re looking for liquor though I’d go to the place next store (Buso’s I think it’s called?).

The Boston area has a good number of solid liquor/​craft beer stores. I live right down the street and I really, really enjoy visiting Berman’s to pick up craft beer, wines, and liquors. The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. They have an excellent selection of products, and they are even expanding the store, to improve their inventory.
They usually offer beer tastings (every Thursday) and wine tastings on the weekends. Aside from the liquor, they also sell local artisan breads, pastas, candy and ice cream.
My favorite thing about Berman’s though, is the discounts they offer. If you purchase 4 or more bottles of craft beer, you can receive a 10% discount on the purchase. In addition, they also offer periodic discounts on «out-​of-​season» beers. The prices are reasonable to begin with (for the area), so you will see the savings in your wallet.
It is a great place to check out, if you are in the Lexington/​Arlington area.

What is it with this place? The service has been horrible nine out of ten times I’ve visited. (There is one nice guy who works here. Wish I knew when he was on duty!) Recently a guy who barely grunted rang up my order. I said «Thanks!» loudly and he snorted and looked away. Par for the course here. It’s like they’re doing a favor to serve you, the customer. Many other places in the area are cheerful and happy to help. I’ve been unimpressed with the bedside manner on almost each visit, and enough is enough — will take my business elsewhere, where I feel welcome, next time!

Very nice store, excellent wine and beer selections. They also sell ice cream, chocolate and little French knick knacks. The salespeople are really nice and always make you feel welcome. If you want a recommendation, they’re more than happy to help you out, but they also leave you alone if you just want to browse. My only beefs: a) I wish they sold the 1 L bottles of Beefeater Gin. They sell the 750 ml and an unwieldy 1.5 L model. b) I wish they had a slightly larger selection of whiskeys. My husband likes Redbreast, but they don’t seem to carry it. This is probably the most convenient full service liquor store for Arlington Heights residents, although the Meat House now carries a modest selection of booze.

Pros: They allow you to rent a keg tap for $ 25. Upon returning it, you’ll get $ 20 of that $ 25 back.
Con: The first tap they provided us with was broken so we had to drive back to exchange it.
Besides this situation, I know little of the establishment. I have not purchased beer, wine, etc. here.

Very cool liquor store on the border of Arlington & Lexington.
They have a very large selection of craft beers at pretty decent prices. They also had a huge walk in cooler that was mostly stocked with cheap stuff so they ran the gamut of selections. One thing I found interesting was that Clown Shoes beer is made by the people that run this store. So not only do they sell beer, but love it so much they brew it too. As you could imagine the staff were very knowledgeable and we had a great discussion with one of the guys.

They have craft beer on sale — 40% off — when it’s «out of season». I went today and stocked up on all sorts of winter ales, 10 huge bottles for around $ 50. They even carried it to my car for me so I could wheel my kid safely through the parking lot in my ankle-​crushing stroller.
What else, what else, what else… They do tastings for beer on Fridays and wine on Saturdays, have an excellent email that goes out weekly describing specials, and even offer a discount when you buy 6 bottles of craft beer at regular price. Basically, if you drink as much as I do, your dollar will stretch further at Berman’s Wine and Spirits.
Got a fake id? Don’t try to use it at Berman’s — they have a fancy scanner that can easily detect fakes.

The PANIC was growing I may have to visit my relative in Arlington (dry town?) SOBER!!! Eakgads.
However when I just crossed over the border of Arl/​Lex I discovered
Bermans (Thank you higher force).
The details:
they have a drive in window — so cool
extensive beer selection — domestic and imported and super obscure
Wine — fair prices — watch for the newsletter it will list sales etc…
over priced — dark chocolates/​crackers and condiments — to gift to friends you will eat them with — oh yes.
Customer service — I thought very good.
Funny anecdote: Ancient lady with high end clothes, too much jewelry
and cloying perfume walked in — with in seconds the owner was all over her «oh Mrs Smith let me get that bottle of Vendage for you» This is one of the cheapest jug wines — I love that he was still point on w/​service. It was up high on a shelf so It may be a case of oh no Mrs Smith don’t break another bottle…

Well stocked beer cooler, running the gamut from snooty down to swill and back up again. More than meets ones needs, whether slumming it for a lost weekend with 40s of Schlitz and pounders of Ballantine, or trying to impress the Lady Friend’s father with something pretentious and obscure.
Bonus points for: a) just-​over-​the-​border location on the Arlington/​Lexington line. Now you too can feel like a bootlegger smuggling twelve packs over the line (even though Arlington has seemingly relaxed its Blue Laws, it still feels illicit)
Bonus points for: b) the giant neon «DRIVE IN» sign with an arrow pointed around towards the back of the store.
Minus points for: c) nearly causing me to total my Lady Friend’s car whipping around the corner of the store only to be greeted by the wall like detritus of a back alley. No drive in! — dashing my hopes of experiencing my first ever drive through liquor store experience, and nearly dashing the car to pieces.
