Specialties

We are a gourmet butcher shop specializing in KY Proud Japanese Wagyu Beef, Akaushi Beef, Amish Chicken, Duroc & Berkshire Pork, Local Lamb, Veal and KY Proud Produce and other KY Proud Grocery Products. We will cut any meat to your specifications as well as marinate your meat so that it is grill-​ready. Our meat is fresh, never frozen. We also offer a fresh seafood program that you order before 10:00 am and it will be ready for pick up between 4:00 — 7:00 pm Monday-​Saturday.

History

Established in 2014.

Three friends got together to start Cooper Brothers Gourmet Meats. Bryan comes with 28 years of experience as a butcher. Jerry has previously owned a restaurant. Dina holds a degree in Culinary Arts and Food Service Management and has over 10 years experience in the food service industry. We wanted to bring back the old time butcher shop experience where the customer can choose what they want rather than pick up a pre-​packaged foam and plastic wrapped product.

Everything I’ve purchased from Cooper Bros. has been amazing quality. From the ground beef to the wagu steaks and even the chicken. This is a step above in quality for Lexington especially if you don’t want a large quantity to feed a family or picnic crowd.
The only thing I wish is for them to have more mid priced beef options since (at least every time I’ve been in) you have some things in the $ 7/​lb range and then jumps to $ 24/​lb+ price range. I’m not saying the prices and quality should drop, just that I wish there were some more options in that $ 14/​lb range. And again, it could be they are sold out of things in that range when I go in, I don’t know.
Overall I think this shop is a great addition to Lexington and its growing food scene.

This place is nuts. I grew up on cattle farm. Their claims of the perfect beef is crazy. Perfect beef ???

After several visits, we have been consistently impressed with the quality of their meats. We tried the Akaushi ribeyes over the summer, and still talk about it. We refer to them as «that steak» as we don’t need more of a descriptor. It was that impressive, nearly life changing. Make sure you get a smaller steak than you would normally eat, as it is luxuriously rich.
The «standard» meats are of impressive quality as well and trimmed beautifully. They make a number of pork sausages in house, though I would like to see beef sausages as well. It’s fortunate to have the store here in the neighborhood, and I recommend them without reservation.

Love this place! Definitely try the Akaushi steaks, as you won’t be disappointed. They have ruined me on other steaks. They are simply the best I’ve ever had. Ever. Anywhere.
Also, try the ground lamb the next time you make hamburgers. I won’t use anything else since they told me to try it. You won’t make better burgers with any other meat.
The employees are wonderful as well. They are super nice, and are always willing to recommend cuts or give cooking/​grilling recommendations.

Highly recommend these guys. Steaks we got to grill for our anniversary were amazing. It’s pricey, but the quality is worth it.
