History
Established in 1956.
Cecil Hitchner, the owners’ father, worked for several furniture stores in the area before he and William Mattingly started Merit Furniture in 1956. The present owners, Larry and Stanley Hitchner, bought out their father in 1982. Merit Furniture was previously at 155 N Limestone in Lexington and moved to their present location in late 2015.

Business Owner
Larry and Stanley never planned on being in the furniture business. They got their start in the business lending their parents a helping hand. Today, more than 30 years later, they have a store/warehouse full of furniture on Seventh Street.
