Rare independent stationary store located in Lexington Center. They carry a variety of high-end notebooks and journals including Rhodia, Leuchtturm, and Moleskin for reasonable prices. They also carry Watermans, Cross, Lamy, and Kaweko fountain pens as well as several inks. In addition they have a variety of toys, games, and gift items. Definitely worth a visit.

Signature has a great selection of unusual notebooks, pens, paper, cards, bags and some gifts. It’s not quite the old Bob Slate, but it has a similar eclectic vibe with Rhodia, Claire Fontaine and other specialty goods that are hard to find. It’s nice to support a local business. I’ve been shopping at Signature for many years. I find the owners to be pleasant and professional. They certainly know my husband and me, and they always find a minute or two to chat(which is all I want anyway). I’m sorry to hear that others feel unwelcome, and that’s not OK. But I wanted to add my experience to round out the picture in the reviews.

Was literally ten cents under the credit card minimum of ten dollars and the clerk refused the sale. I’d brush it off if it weren’t for the realization that whenever I’ve been in this store the staff has been unfriendly and sometimes fussy. I can’t stand overly anxious store manager types, as if the customer is on the verge of upsetting their equilibrium or something. These people should be in a different line of work… Anyways, a merely decent selection here — nothing to write home about — and so not worth the fuss. Get your notepads somewhere else.

Dreadful customer service. There is no reason to patronize this store because the service is worse than indifferent and you can order anything you want on the internet. The human touch to merchandising is all they could offer to distinguish themselves and they don’t.

Very rude service. I went in to buy a pen but the guy behind the counter was so rude, I had to go elsewhere.

Do I like Signature Stationers? Is there air? He has a really good collection of wire bound notebooks, folders, pens and pencils, odd notebooks, paper tablets, and erasers. A very nice collection of unusual cards. Some nice travel stuff. And some nice gifts. They have a business in the basement distributing books from France. The owners are nice, but times are hard, especially for the independents. If they’re not smiling give them a smile, they deserve it. If the air conditioning is not on in the summer, blame the landlord. Something must be going on because this entire block has suddenly started shifting. Maybe the previous owner retired and the his kids sold the block to one of the large commercial real estate companies. Who knows what goes on in the mind of a landlord. What’s wrong with air conditioning?

Signature Stationers has a great selection of stationary, pens, travel items, journals, and unique gift items for children. The co-owners — I believe their names are Marjorie and Mark — are warm and friendly, and I’m always greeted with a smile. It’s great to feel like my business is genuinely appreciated.

Four stars for product assortment but minus one for unfriendly service. This is a place for people who have a global view of design, art and travel. Moleskine journals, desk items that have contemporary designs, even paste imported from Italy(but in a really nice package). I didn’t even know it was here and stumbled on it when I glanced in the window. But, yeah, the guy behind the counter barely looked at me, proclaimed the amount and that was it. Add just a little warmth and personality and people might want to go back.

Signature Stationers offers all those kinds of cute, quirky, cool notepads, papers, pens/pencils, accessories for people who who can describe in detail the difference between rhodia and claire fontaine paper; Lamy or Faber-Castell pens. They also stock some good travel accessories(Baggalini) and clever cards. Convenient location, easy parking in back, and pricesyou would expect for those products. The only reservation about this place is… their service isn’t particularly friendly. I’ve been going there for over a dozen years – I don’t think the owner has ever recognized me or greeted me familiarly. It seems like most of the time I’m in there, he’s on the phone, ordering stock or working out orders. I’m not sure if I’ve ever even gotten the conventional shopkeeper’s greeting — «good afternoon…» or «let me know if there’s anything I can help you with.» when I’ve gone in to the shop. I“m not a needy shopper :) but it would be nice once in a while to feel like I wasn’t intruding in someone’s private residence when I walk in to buy some supplies. Having said that, the selection of products I really like trumps the slightly offputting demeanor of the shop owner.
