College Hunks Hauling Junk and Moving

Arrived 3 hours late. And charged extra for a lamp that should have been included in the base cost.

Called up… got national answering service and then after giving a lot of info that they don’t service my zip code… strange. BECAUSE they say they do on their website and in fact are very specific that they do… This is a case of a moving company business that has lost the local and personal touch… Don’t view these guys as a local moving company…

Easy to schedule. Very pleasant and efficient workers. Reasonably priced compared to other similar services.

It was so fast and easy, they even called to let me know they could come earlier if I would like. Seems they were ahead of time, it worked out great. I would highly recommend them.

I had 2 sofas and a chest of drawers to get rid of. The appointment was very easy to make online and they picked up the next day. They removed the furniture quickly. There were some muddy footprints left behind, but they offered to take their shoes off before they came in and I told them not to worry about it. The guys were polite and friendly. It wasn’t cheap, but their prices are similar to other companies. I would definitely use them again!

Held & held & held & held & the «Client Loyalty Associate» never picked up. But, I did get to hear over & over & over that they were on Oprah.

I can see how this service could become addicting. It’s such an easy way of purging.
Anyway, the 3 college guys who came were very friendly, professional and speedy.
The reason why I didn’t give 5 stars was it’s not cheap, but I don’t know what the going rate should be. I would use them and recommend them.
If you refer a friend you get a starbucks or other gift card.

Wow — were we impressed. We booked on line and received a confirming phone message. The young men showed up exactly on time and introduced themselves. They took stock of the best way to handle our very heavy piece of furniture and removed it with less fuss that when it was originally delivered some years ago. When they finished, all three thanked us for our business.
The quote seemed high until I remembered what these «hunks» do. The workers comp insurance premiums must be huge. In addition, all the workers return to school in the fall and they probably all claim unemployment. The franchise probably pays the highest rate in unemployment insurance. That said, it was worth every penny to have our junk removed and to have that done so carefully by such a nice team.
This company was recommended by friends and we have already recommended it to several others. Considering our experience, the negative reviews are a surprise. Perhaps it all depends on the team leader?

I used College Hunks to clean out my mother’s apartment after she passed away. the three «hunks» appeared right on time, introduced themselves, and proceeded to complete the job in a very efficient and professional manner. I think this is a great service when you have a lot of stuff to be hauled away. The only reason I did not give five stars is that the central booking office is not the greatest but the local people are very good.

I’m very shocked to read the lady below me reaction to this company. I had 3 great experiences with College Hunks Hauling Junk. They were prompt, quick and nice. The owner was there during the hauls and he was extremely nice as well. We told them some things we needed picked up before hand but afterwards we realized we needed some more things hauled and we surprised them with this info when they arrived at our house and they were completely fine with it and told us «do you have anything else you’d like hauled away? we can do more». We were going to be moving a month later and the owner told us to let him know if they needed to come back again because there’s always more junk to be thrown out when you’re planning a move. We did call back, twice. Again, efficient, nice, and prompt. They were even willing to haul some of our big furniture to a storage unit as well which I thought was exceptionally nice of them! I haven’t used them again in a year but I would highly recommend them to others and use them when I need junk hauled away again!

Excellent phone info provided. Great website. I wasn’t thrilled with the $ 300 price to haul an old sleeper sofa and freezer out of my garage & away to trash, but I couldn’t find any place to donate either item. I made an appointment was given a 2 hour window.
SHORT VERSION: 2 ½ hours late, no courtesy calls regarding changes in timeline, demanding & rude on the phone after that. High price to pay for throwing away ‘junk.‘
For small jobs — Find an alternative! These are not the movers you seek.
LONG VERSION:
Day of the hauling: Received a call at the start of my 2 hour window telling me they would be late — closer to the end of the two hour window and that a crew would move items from garage to curb and then another crew would arrive in truck to haul away. I waited… 1 hour and 20 minutes past the end of my two hour window, I called back to ask what happened and what was going on. I was told I was supposed to have been called — that I was called (which I wasn’t — no missed calls on my phone) — that I would be called. Two minutes later, I get a call saying they are 10 min away with the truck near by.
Two young men arrived 10 min later — very polite — moved my two items to the curb and left a dolly for the truck crew. They told me the truck was just behind them — maybe 10 min. (It’s already 1 hour, 30 min past my ‘window’) So I waited.
A landscape guy pulls up and asks if I’m throwing out the dolly. I say, «No, I’m waiting for a crew to pick up the freezer and sofa.» Landscape guy asks if he can have freezer. I agree. After they leave, I resume waiting. As I’m waiting, I remember seeing sofas out on garbage day so I call the village and ask if they will pick up a sleeper sofa and they will. Problem solved. No need for junk haulers — although the nice boys who moved the stuff deserve something for their 15 min of work. I still have to wait for truck & guard dolly because truck crew is coming to pick it up.
An hour later I get a call from the truck crew saying, «How am I supposed to get into your neighborhood with all these closed streets?» (There is construction on one major street bordering my neighborhood, which he told me his GPS suggested he take.) I was so flabbergasted at the tone of the question and the silliness of it, I was speechless for a few moments! I gave him directions. He arrived and I informed him that he didn’t need to haul away the sofa. He said ‘I wish you had called.” (I thought, «karma’s a bitch — I wish you’d called too, buddy!) I said, «I knew you needed to come pick up the dolly anyway.»
Then the phone calls started… They demanded that I pay $ 120/​hr for the labor services that I used. They were rude on the phone, interrupting, only wanting to demand payment & explain their business. In the end, I offered to pay them $ 60 for the 15 minutes the two young men took to move a sleeper sofa and freezer from my garage to the curb. They accepted that & it was done.
