All of our talented and trained future salon professionals are closely supervised by the College’s licensed instructors. Our instructors help students with the initial client consultation (to determine your needs and desires) and can provide input throughout the entire service experience, if appropriate. Each of the students working in our Salon has at least 350 hours of basic and foundational training.

History
Established in 1960.
Today’s College of Hair Design is the direct result of the late Albert D. Howard’s love and devotion to the profession of hair designing. Al was in charge of «Ship’s Service» in the U.S. Navy for five years during the Korean War. He was a licensed barber with unlicensed sailors working with him. Upon returning to Lincoln in 1954, he began a barbering career that led, in 1955, to the opening of his own business, Al’s Barber Shop. By 1960 Mr. Howard was able to pursue his dream of a training school for barbers, by opening the Lincoln Barber College. In about 1965 one of the big changes in the profession came with the era of long hair. Barbers were really feeling the crunch. Seeing the need to grow and change with the industry, Mr. Howard started classes for barbers to learn «long hair styling“and eventually merged with another school and became the College of Hair Design. Today, Mrs Alyce Howard and her son Greg Howard, continue the tradition of a family-owned school.
