A smile and a thank you goes a long way. Unfortunately, I didn’t get either one with my purchase from the «Frau».
I want to support local to show we appreciate our small businesses, but with the service I received, I’ll be spending my money elsewhere.

Who needs Starbucks when you have Das; this place is amazing and is locally owned and operated! If you are ever in the Canal Winchester area you must stop in, I promise you won’t be sorry that you did! Best coffee house around hands down!

I drink an Americano every morning and having recently moved into the area, I was looking for a place to get these on my way into work. Very happy with the quality of the Americano here as well as the service. Fast, friendly service and a great tasting drink, MUCH better than the burnt tasting drinks from Starbucks that I’ve never been a fan of. Prices are very reasonable as well, this place offers a higher quality drink for a better price. Glad there is a local shop nearby with a high quality espresso bean in the area. I’m happy to make this my new morning stop for my Americano.

I have been told to try this place for a long time but I never really feel it is anything special compared to other coffee shops.
Now I have to make a disclaimer that I make specialty coffee so I will not say anything about the quality of the coffee they serve.
What I can say is it is really a coffee shop not unlike any other. Whether they serve great coffee or not, I will leave to the other reviewers to rate them.
Let me correct myself, perhaps what makes them different is being a German coffee shop and that gives it that certain charm that would appeal to others.
All in all, I can say try them and see for yourself. I think a lot of people who give them good ratings are not incorrect in doing so.

I enjoy the décor and love that it has a real «neo» eastern German feel. I respect the fact that Das Kaffee didn’t fall into the trap of going with a 17^th century Bavarian atmosphere just to cater to a preconceived notion of what a «real German» place should look like.
Bottom line if this place was on my way to work I’d go everyday.

I’ve lived in the area of Lithopolis my whole life and when I lived in town I was very excited that there was a coffee shop opening up within walking distance. However, when I went in the service was horrible. It took a REALLY long time to get my drink which was upsetting because I would have loved to go there before work and get my coffee instead of a drive through. I tried it again soon after thinking that there must have been a reason for the slow service the first time, but again it was 10+ minutes to order and get a drink. I was very disappointed and never went back.

I really like this place in terms of a comfortable coffee shop environment. In fact, it is probably my favorite in this way. It’s small but spacious, bright, and a variety of seating options. A very friendly small town crown.
Their products are very good as well, coffee is always great, and they have a nice variety of pastries as well as Velvet Ice cream. Best of all, a few imported German delights.
The techno music is great, but that’s about where the European aspects stop. The fact that it’s supposed to be German, but when there is a poster with the Swedish alphabet on it from IKEA on the wall, it takes a little from that. And the unnecessary umlaut in the name sorta makes me cringe. But it is meant to be like an Americanized European coffee shop, so just remember that, and leave any Germanic snobbery at the door [I have it, so I understand].
Overall, it’s a pretty awesome and unique place, and I love that there is one of these in such a small town.

It was interesting reading some of the other reviews and their various takes on the «authenticity» of this café. Having lived in Germany for many years, I was looking forward to finally checking out the place that claimed to be authentically European. So, I had some pretty high expectations coming into my visit here. Fortunately, aside from some minor and understandable points, Das KaffeeHaus made me feel like I was sipping espresso back in Köln.
I guess let’s start with the atmosphere since this café is aiming to be a piece of deutsche Kaffeekultur in small town Ohio. On the one hand, Das KaffeeHaus has the European café-​vibe down perfectly. From the décor to the ambient techno music, the eclectic and energetic surroundings were in keeping with what I remember about German cafes. In all fairness to Das KaffeeHaus, «authentic» European café is a problematic term — it’s hard to say what is authentic since cafes in Europe and particularly in Germany can be so diverse. But, there was just a general feeling about this place that really resonated with what I have come to think of when I recall Germany (the Ja! chocolate bars were a nice touch too).
On the other hand, there was a certain element of kitsch that I think the purveyors found too tempting to avoid. Certainly, I have never been to an actual German café that had German/​English interrogative pronouns hanging from the ceiling or a sign posted in the door for «Das Hours». They seemed to intentionally want to play up the German-​ness of their establishment a bit. It certainly wasn’t over the top or anything. I actually found it quite endearing, and it made my visit that much more unique and memorable.
Now the one area where they exceeded my expectations was the Kaffee und Kuchen itself. The «mild» house-​blended coffee was amazing. And, though it was blended and roasted locally, the beans, as I read, were imported from Plum’s Kaffee in Aachen. Nice touch. And, the Italian espresso was a perfect match as well. The best part for me though was being able to try the Bienenstich, a favorite of ours when we lived over there. To be sure, there was just something a bit off in many of the flavors, but I chuck that up to the difference in local ingredients.
In the end, I loved this place. The coffee was great, and the atmosphere was wonderful. I found myself really pining for the good old day back in Köln. Thank you, Das KaffeeHaus for stoking some of those beautiful memories!

If you’re looking for a quaint little coffee spot in a friendly little town, this is the place. Stylish yet unique, if you’re tired of the cookie cutter Sta***cks and cant stand Timmy Ho’s then this is a great spot.
Good coffee, good iced tea, great pastries and super casual environment with a friendly staff… Check it out. Its worth it.

OK, I may just be a local boy trying to tout a few of the remarkable places down on my end of town, but I think Das KaffeeHaus is one of the best things to happen in Lithopolis in recent record. My love affair with this cozy little café has gravitated from hot carmel lattes, to sweet bakery items, to the best frozen latte in the area. (Yes that’s a real scoop of Velvet ice cream in there). I’m a fan of the Kringle (iced apple, cheese or almond pastry), a delicious seasonal pumpkin muffin, and what the owner, Joe, calls an «umlaut» (basically a hard-​iced, cake-​ball of rich, chocolatey goodness. My newest passion now that’s it’s cold again, has become the honey almond hot latte… divine. But, go easy on the almond, a little goes a long way! I’m not sure I’m educated enough to speak as to the authenticity of the German theme surrounding the place, but I have been to Weisbaden/​Frankfurt and I could picture this place nestled along the Strasse in easy walk from the commuter rail. Das Kaffehaus also has evening German language classes for those interested, is an official hub where you can watch the Columbus Crew games, and «Ja!», of course they have «Wi Fi».

A bit disspointed its not more German here.
The coffee is locally roasted, still very good but I doubt there is such a thing as a snickers latte anywhere in Germany, I did enjoy it though.
Also the ice cream is velvet and should have been something German like Maagnum, Moevenpick or Schoeller.
The names of the cakes and pastries spot on, the looks and taste a bit off.
Also expensive, I had a raspberry and a strawberry croissant (not German) which were pretty dry and bland.
The pecan braid also dry and stale.
In all, an extra star for being German and having very good coffee, the rest is forgettable.

Very nice to have a social pick-​me-​up spot so conveniently located in downtown Lithopolis, AND I hear they donate 15% of one’s purchase to the Wagnalls Memorial if they flash their library card! Outstanding!
Das KaffeeHaus is great for upbeat conversation and currently offer conversational German classes on Thursdays at 7pm to boot.
In a hurry? They have a drive-​thru.
I’m not kidding either about their coffee being great. Need a strudel fix? They’ve got it. Hooray for local business!
