Tomato Pie Cafe

This place is OK. But not awesome. I think the main reason locals love it so much is due to lack of competition. There just aren’t many small places with quality menus like this in the area. Both times I’ve been, the food has been pretty decent. However, the service has not been that great. I get it, most of the staff is hipsters. But that’s no excuse for not offering exceptional service. Get rid of the plastic dishes too. Cheap plates kill the vibe somewhat when paired with a nice meal.

Our dessert was good, coffee was average but the service wasn’t very friendly. Our server seemed like she was inconvenienced. I wasn’t impressed.

I’m surprised by some of the more recent reviews; when I visited on New Year’s Eve for lunch, I had not only impeccable service but delicious food. Lititz is such a cool, quaint town, and Tomato Pie Café is exactly what you’d want in a community meet up spot.
When we arrived, it was right around noon and the place was bustling. Luckily, the lunch counter was open and we were able to grab seats right away. Our server arrived quickly, and we ordered tomato pie (what else!) plus a hummus platter because we were starved. Despite being packed, the food came out in a reasonable amount of time and the plates were actually larger than I expected. The pie was amazing, and that’s coming from a Southerner who grew up with the recipe as a staple. It was also served with fresh greens and a savory herb scone, which paired nicely with the lemon and white balsamic olive oil they had sitting on the lunch counter. All in all, delicious! I want more as I’m writing this.
The hummus was also great, drizzled with a high-​quality olive oil and served with the most amazing naan bread (also roasted red peppers, kalamatas, and artichoke hearts). It was probably unnecessary to order this as well as the tomato pie, but I’m totally glad we did in order to try it.
Overall, a must-​visit café that certainly beats others in the area!

Food was a 4 and service was a 2. I am giving it a 4 because my food was a 5. I am now obsessed with tomato pie and have started making it religiously at home. I cannot make it is a good as this place though. Not sure if there is crack in it or what. Anyways, it also comes with a salad, which was great, although I am not sure if there is a choice of dressing or not as the waitress told me to use the bottle of balsamic that was on the table when my undressed salad arrived. My husband was unimpressed with his turkey sandwich. He said it was very bland. And he loves bland so I’m not sure what was up with the sandwich. The waitress couldn’t really be bothered with us. She was busy complaining about another server downstairs with her co-​server upstairs. Then she disappeared on us for about 20 minutes. It was very weird. We were the only people left upstairs. I thought for awhile they forgot we were up there. Needless to say, I would go back for the pie and the chocolate factory across the street. I will leave my husband at the hamburger place next store.

Normally I would give tomato pie five stars, but today was different. I understand it is the holiday season & things are hectic, but our server was very abrupt, not friendly, and the hostess was impatient and blatantly complained in front of us that she was annoyed that the two people were missing when we were seated, slapping her hands on the sides of her hips with an irritated tone. (even though they were just walking in the door). It was my mothers 50^th birthday and I just wanted a good experience as I usually do when I go to the establishment. The tomato pie was soggy and didn’t seem finished. Very sad because this is one of my favorite restaurants! I probably won’t return for a little while.
Overall: don’t go if you have large parties, don’t go during the holiday season, probably better during an early morning before it gets too busy.

I came on a weeknight with an hour to kill after getting out of work and before getting a massage nearby. This place was recommended to me by someone I had recently met. He just raved about Tomato Pie café and since it happened to be in the same town as my appointment I thought I would check it out.
It was still patio weather so I opted to sit outside. It was a little confusing when I first arrived since there was no host or hostess present when I arrived and it to not appear to be a seat yourself type of situation. Eventually, one came and she was pleasant and friendly. The back outdoors area is a cozy place to dine in nice weather.
I ordered the tomato pie with salad and asked for a sample of the herb lemonade. The tomato pie was pretty good as was the salad and the housemade dressing. I was not crazy about the lemonade so I stuck with my lemon water. The waitress was mindful of my schedule and got me out in time to make it to my appointment on time which I appreciated. I did not get dessert but was quite a variety of offerings and they looked good.

My whole family loves it here! Love the atmosphere, particularly in the front room. However, our favorite time to go is when the patio is open. I can’t get enough of their Tomato Pie and my kids love the kid-​cinos they serve. If you’re in Lititz, this is definitely a place to check out!

Came here for lunch. The staff wasnt very engaging, but they werent rude.
I had the specialty sandwich, a turkey brie sanwich with cranberry relish-​it was very good, the only thing that threw it off were the apples in the sandwich. the apples were delicious, but one too many additives in the bites.
I ordered a red velvet whoppie pie to go for my guy. i think it looked better than it tasted. :(
i wasnt blown away, but there was plenty of variety in the food choices. Go try it out.

Awesome atmosphere in a charming hipster café. Food was delicious and menu was eclectic. Everything my party ordered was enjoyed thoroughly. Only negative was our hostess who acted annoyed we had a party of 6. Would recommend to anybody for lunch or a light dinner.

This was one of the worst brunch experiences I’ve ever had. The food took over half an hour to come out, and the server told us that our food would be ready in «a couple of minutes» only to not show up with the food for another 15 minutes.
We ordered the special pumpkin pancakes. When served they were lukewarm, and were missing the glazed walnuts. The server reheated them, but gave us a little attitude. Bites of the pancakes were very inconsistent, like the batter wasn’t mixed enough… some tasted like egg, while another tasted like garlic. They also tasted very strongly of cashew milk, which was not mentioned anywhere.
The fried egg and raspberry brie sandwich was much better, but the bottom piece of toast was soggy. The raspberry brie had a consistency more like jam than brie. There were also 4 or 5 pieces of melon and grapes on the side of the plate. Maybe there was supposed to be a fruit salad, but it slid off the plate on the way to the table?
Lastly, we ordered tomato pie to go, and the server could not find it for a good 15 – 20 minutes.

We visited on a Sunday morning, shortly after 8am.
The food was good!
Service was subpar, a drink order was missed, and waited too long for check. Additionally, our server was inattentive,…UNTIL he eavesdropped, offered an unsolicited non sequitur to our private conversation!
They did not have decaf coffee brewed yet. Some people people prefer decaf, and some people have to select decaf due to being pregnant for instance.
I’d go back if wife wanted to go. However, prob wouldn’t suggest a visit on my own.
I’d like to add that if was within walking distance I’d probably be more inclined to return.

5 girls on a «girls» weekend! Fabulous meal. Very busy, but the service was very good, and, the food was fabulous. Our waitress was very pleasant, and able to explain the menu and answer questions. Again, the food was delicious, great atmosphere, it was a little too warm inside, but that’s not their fault. Amazing, got my thumbs up.

Came here for a late dinner on a Saturday night with my lady. Very nice inside. I liked the classic café vibe and the old timey music playing.
Had cold brew, French press coffee, and the ham and brie panini, all of which were very good. My girl ordered a chai tea latte and the special bacon quiche. Both were delicious per her report.

Great food, good selection, and a home-​y atmosphere.

A second patio lunch 48 hours later. Service not quite as peppy, food still excellent. Seasonal special of Maple Turkey Panini with apples and brie was super tasty, but unless the brie was that little bit of creamy dressing on the bread, it was invisible. I must get some lemon and white balsamic from Olio and make this same house dressing for my own salads!

The hubs and I came to check out the Tomato Pie Café for an early breakfast while we were in the area. Owned by the Fisher Family, the menu offers breakfast plates/​sandwiches, salads, lunch/​dinner platters, specials of the month, as well as beverages (coffees, lattes, soda, milk shakes, smoothies, teas, etc.). I started off with a cup of their Maple Spice Latte, made with cream (comes in 2 sizes) — this was absolutely delicious! A great balance of the maple spice flavor infused within, even with a latte art on top. It comes in a generous mug and it was a great hot beverage to start off in the morning. For my entrée, I had their Tomato Pie (this came with a slice of their warm signature pie, served with your choice of rosemary potatoes, Parmesan grit cake, or fresh fruit). I opted for the Parmesan grit cake; the pie reminded me slightly of a quiche, but no egg involved — it contained shredded cheese with a heavenly crust on top. I’m wondering if the cheese should have been melted more or if it was going for the ‘fresh tomato filling’ type of a thing; either way, it was an interesting take on pie, but still a delicious slice (I probably would request it to be warmed a bit longer). The Parmesan grit cake was a little underwhelming, as it didn’t taste like cheese, but it was cooked well. There was a small amount of fresh diced fruit (watermelon and cantaloupe). The hubs had their Maple & Spice French Toast, which were slices of brioche bread, dipped in their maple and spice batter. This came with a side of cinnamon honey butter (a cup of their pure maple syrup is at an additional charge, so keep that in mind)! This was pretty tasty with the maple and the spice concoction, and both the hubs and I thought it was one of the best french toast we’ve had in a restaurant! :D Our server was Mandi N., and she was attentive and pretty efficient. Limited metered parking is available on Broad.

This is a popular spot for lunch. We felt the service was good and the food was good as well. My main criticism is on my chicken curry sandwich the croissant seemed really dense and a little dry. I prefer croissants to me buttery and fluffy. The chicken salad was a little bland and could have used more seasoning. However my sisters salmon and artichoke panini was great, as was the tomato bisque soup my mom had. She said several times it tastes amazingly fresh.
We would come back again to try more of their pressed sandwiches which seems to be their forte. The atmosphere is quaint and cozy and very welcoming. Parking is limited though so you may have to park a block or two down the road.

Judging by the rest of the reviews and the number of people dining here, I’m convinced my visit today was a fluke.
The visit started with a 5 minute wait that was closer to 30. We were sat outside rather than our indoor preference. The other hostess gave us a bit of attitude as well.
The other negatives were that our drinks took awhile to come out. One of the guests didn’t get a coffee until after entrees came out. Water cups smelled like bleach. Again server had a bit of attitude. I figured they may just have not been used to the volume of customers this Saturday morning.
I had an egg shell in the first bite of my tomato pie omelette but I looked beyond that and the rest of the potatoes and sourdough toast was good.
I really wanted to like TPC but today was just not their day.
I recommend the tomato pie. I’d definitely try it again.

I would probably give 3.5 stars if I could but I’ll round up to 4. We had a nice lunch today, though we did have to wait 25 solid minutes before a seat was available. Lunch was nice, but the mutual opinion was that it is a little kitschy. I had a November special, the stuffed acorn squash. It was good, though (and I don’t usually say this kind of thing) it would have been better with some sausage in it. Hubby had the spinach, artichoke tomato pie which was nice, but probably not the best we’ve ever had. Kiddo had a pb&j on rainbow bread and a nice side of fresh fruit
Overall it is a good lunch spot, though I don’t know if it was worth the nearly 30 min wait. It is super tight in there too. Overall not a bad spot, just be forewarned and I find that always makes it more enjoyable.

The food is delicious and absolutely wonderful! I decided to be adventurous and order the Smoked Salmon Benedict. It was egg, smoked salmon, arugula & tomato on a Parmesan grit cake & topped with mornay sauce and pumpernickel toast! O-​M-​G it was amazing! I doubted any breakfast could be better until I had a few bites of the Tomato Pie!!! Best breakfast/​tomato pie hands down. The Spiced Pumpkin Latte didn’t disappoint either!
We were seated upstairs and it was so quaint. Yet the menu had a real urban feel. I loved it. The service was great and the servers had real cool style. We plan on coming back on our next trip to Lancaster and probably every trip to Lancaster until the end of time. Yes, it’s that good!
