I swung by this spot while I was in the area, and since I love little spots, thought I’d try! I ordered a Knock Knock roll(spicy salmon w/avocado on top + spicy mayo), Green River roll(shrimp tempura, crabmeat, cucumber), and the gyoza. Owner gave me a miso soup as well! First off, I usually don’t like miso, but since I had read a review that it was yummy, I tried it. It was delicious! Loved it so much. As for the rolls, the flavor is perfect, shrimp is crispy, all fish tastes fresh and delicious. My only(teeny tiny) issue is that the rice was almost too sticky. Like maybe it was a little soggy? Didn’t detract too much, and I’m gonna assume maybe it’s a one time mistake. Gyoza… Not sure. It was crispy outside, and soft and warm inside, never had one in a green(veggie?) wrapper before. Wasn’t my cup of tea, but not letting it affect the review. Still recommend it!

I’m not sure why this place has a 4.8. I came here with my mother and her friend and we were gravely disappointed. We ordered the vegetable tempura meal, salmon& white tuna sashimi, and the combo special b which was fantasy roll and green river roll. The vegetable tempura was fried well but the vegetables themselves were undercooked, with crunchy sweet potato. The sashimi tasted fishy and it was not fresh. I felt a little sick after trying a few pieces and so did my mother’s friend. The rolls were packed very loosely and fell apart when I picked them up. I’m Chinese so I know how to use chopsticks. The only person there, I’m assuming, was the owner and chef. He was very accommodating and I wish I could give this place two stars at least, but I’m just seriously disappointed by the quality of the food.

This little restaurant serves the best sushi ever! The owner sincerely loves what he does and it reflects in the food. The fish is fresh, fresh, fresh! I love the salmon best, it is buttery and melts in your mouth. I’ve also had the shumai, shrimp tempura and the crab salad, all delicious, but I wish there was a dipping sauce besides soy sauce for the shumai. My husband has the shrimp teriyaki every time. It’s a nice sized portion, teriyaki sauce is tasty, the veggies are crisp and fresh! Definitely my favorite sushi spot and I have been to too many to count.

Great quality sushi. I will be ordering from them again soon. Only problem was that I called to place my order and they it would be ready in 25 min. I got there almost exactly 25 minutes later and my food was not ready. It took another 10 minutes. Normally I wouldn’t mind, but I only ordered 2 very easy to make sushi rolls. Regardless, I will return again, and either show up after the time they said it would be ready or eat in the restaurant.

Cute place nice hole in the wall. Great selection of rolls and choices. Sushi/sashimi taste fresh and staff is good when we see him. Seems to be short staff as the same person seats, waits and rolls sushi with little help from I think his kids. A bit slow as stated with same person wearing many hats in restaurant.

Fresh sashimi in a small, unassuming restaurant run solely by the chef/owner. Did not try the numerous roll offerings, but opted for a tuna entrée since this gal loves her tuna to death. The fish was fresh and extremely tasty. Came with miso soup which was on the heavy(vs. bland/watery) side — the way I like it. We were the only ones dining there on a slow Sat night so our service was relatively prompt, but once another party entered it slowed down considerably(no water refills, waited awhile for the check, etc.). This is expected since this is no wait staff but I’d be concerned during busier dining hours how quickly I would get my food. Also, kind of disappointed that the sashimi entrees didn’t come with a salad or maybe a side of rice, something that usually goes with the territory at other Japanese restaurants. A very tame, quiet place to enjoy some good sashimi.

I came across this hole in the wall place because our usual sushi place was closed and I am so glad it was because this place is amazing! Everything was great and the ambiance is so comfortable just what I needed after a long work day. Definitely coming back!

I picked up Little Falls and Teri roll for lunch today. They were fresh and yummy! Parking on the street might be a little problem but otherwise if you are looking for good special rolls I highly recommend U1! :)

The true definition of a great hole in the wall sushi restaurant. I don’t know what makes the miso soup so delicious, but it honestly tastes better than any other miso soup I’ve ever tasted. The shumai appetizer, «U1-Special» special roll, and(according to my dad) the lunch special chicken teriyaki bento box were all super yummy. I chose this place because of the overall 4.5-star rating, but I didn’t read any of the reviews prior to dining. After reading that the owner does it all, I’m even more impressed! Don’t let the location and interior fool you. This place is so good! I can’t wait to come back.

This place is amazing! It is completely owned, run, and operated by one person which is why it deserves 5 stars. He is waiter, chef, sushi chef, owner, etc. Seems like he has no help either. Yet he does a great job, the food always tastes fresh and the sushi rolls are very inventive. Also, the prices are super reasonable for sushi! Cheapest that I have found by far. If you are a sushi fan, you need to check this place out. Fyi — It is BYOB so bring a few drinks!

Really simple and elegant spot for sushi from a Japanese chef. We ordered a sushi and sashimi combo for 2 and it was really delicious.

A local gem! Everything is fresh and made to order! One man show so service takes a little bit but the atmosphere is enjoyable and friendly. Prices are reasonable for the quality and portion size. I highly recommend the New York Roll and the Shrimp and Beef Teriyaki! Look forward to returning and trying something new! This can be dangerous being so close to my house!

Great local sushi joint to support! Every time we do a sit down dinner here, the food is always fresh. We often do take out as well but it does take some time for the order as Shaun is the owner & the only sushi chef. He’s super friendly & always accommodating. The rolls are priced cheaper than other places. My favorites are the Yellowcab, Little Italy & Godzillar.

As long as you go here knowing what it is, this is a great, owner-run restaurant. The owner is also the waiter and the sushi chef, so do not go here if you’re in a hurry. If you have the time to wait then you will enjoy a delicious sushi dinner with attention to detail. Try it out!

I love this restaurant. Out of all the sushi places I’ve been too(Minado, Midori, Sushi Palace, Sushi Village, Ovations, Yutaka to name a few), this is by far the best sushi I’ve had. The owner goes above and beyond to prepare fresh and top quality sushi. You do have to wait a bit as only one person is running the restaurant and seats about 20, but is definitely worth it!

Excellent hole in the wall sushi restaurant. The freshness, presentation, variety and flavor of rolls is far and above most sushi restaurants. In my opinion the best sushi restaurant within a five mile radius… who knows, maybe even longer. Only drawback is that the owner and chef should probably hire help because he works solo and can easily become backed up with orders. It’s worth the wait though because of the above average quality. I debated giving four stars because of service time but decided on five based on sushi quality and quality of work on presentation. He probably doesn’t want to hire help because he has high standards and only trusts himself.

Delicious. The rolls are very tasty here and everything is fresh. I know they do a good take out business and it’s a really small place. If you come here don’t expect fast service– But do expect yummy rolls, reasonably priced and presented beautifully. It’s definitely a hidden gem. One thing is that I did not order sashimi so I can’t couch for that– but I think they do mostly rolls and specialty rolls anyway.
