Wow this sushi was really good. I got salmon sushi my favorite and a for seasons roll. I wanted it spicy and boy it sure was. The four Seasons has mostly sashimi in it along with rice, jalapeño, and some other greens. It’s very good and big. My salmon was also great. Only negative was I got my food to go and it was very room temperature. I felt like they may have had it near an oven? I prefer it on the cooler side.

Best sushi spot around. Every time I go there the fish is fresh and sushi is delicious. I usually get the lunch box with salmon and it is cooked perfectly how I like it. I have not one bad thing to say about them. All I know is when that fish, touched my lip, I knew it was legit. Now I crave kissui, like the French crave andouille. Who me? Only one spot to buy su shi. All these places are straight doo dee

This place is not good — not fresh and three disappointing experiences. First, was mediocre sushi with rubbery texture and questionable temp. But we always give a place another try. Second time was take out — dirty, unclean shrimp. Third time, and our last, rubbery sushi and, yep, unclean shrimp. When we mentioned it to the server she said«some chefs are just lazy». Um… so yeah, dirty and yuck is my description.

Great food. Awesome specials. Great service. BYOB. Awesome. Great for families and for children. The specials were priced well. Affordable and an incredible experience. This is a restaurant you would start to call home. It’s my regular sushi place from this day forward.

I really want to love this place. I really do. I’ve been a resident of Little Silver for 10 years and I’ve never been too keen on Kissui. Their ownership has changed a couple of times, things have been up and down, but I’ll speak strictly on my most recent experience there. I walked in around 6 on a Thursday evening. I actually expected the place to be empty, but there were actually two families seated at tables. The hostess was no where to be found for a minute or two, given that she was waiting and serving simultaneously. I was riding solo for the night, so I helped myself to the sushi bar. The décor is terrible. There’s nothing wrong with having a «tradition»(if you could call it that in the US) sushi dig, but when it’s poorly decorated and furnished, it does not send good vibes. The chairs are old and nicked up, revealing bare wood. Kitchen supplies are stored outside on shelves that would be better adorned with lamps or candles. The lighting creates no ambiance what-so-ever. I could go on. This still irks me, but if you’re seated at a sushi bar, your correspondence should be with the sushi chefs. Even if its as miniscule as checking off your order on a sheet and handing it to them, there should be some connection. I digress. I placed my order as soon as I figured out what I wanted. There was no fried rice on the menu, but they were happy to whip up a dish despite being absent from the offerings. It was brought out pretty quick. However, it rivals for among the worst fried rice I’ve ever had. I’m a college student, so I can tolerate dining hall food, but this was pretty bad. The rice was soggy and tasteless. Greasy would be an understatement. I put it down regardless, trying not to focus on how it sat in my stomach. For my main course, I ordered a Phoenix roll and sweet potato roll. I was fairly pleased with both. The waitress/hostess/server took my request to make it spicy(albeit $ 0.50 extra per roll). Presentation was underwhelming, especially when the chef, Oscar, haphazardly throws roe on top of the roll on top of the fish display rather than the preparation counter. The fish was fresh and the sweet potato fried to perfection. Props for that. The abundance of avocado on the Phoenix made the roll a tad on the mushy side, but it still retained a nice taste. However, for prices similar to «Kanji» in Shrewsbury, I expected more. I want to give this three stars, but given the quality of sushi at other restaurants in adjacent towns, I have to leave it at two. I wish Kissui the best, because I would love nothing more to go into town more often for my fix of Japanese. They really need a facelift, new management, and something to compete with the forerunners.

I recently moved from the city and was getting really worried about finding amazing sushi here but honestly this was great sushi! I ordered sashimi deluxe and my husband had the sushi deluxe. The fish was really fresh and delicious. Sliced perfectly and melts in your mouth.

Food is always great. One problem is don’t go when it is busy. The owner is the server and is slow as shit. Takes forever to get food. Too bad they are too cheap to hire more help ! We always come back and it’s always the same story. If only i could work here for the rush, they would do better business. And they worry about to go orders rather than the restaurant patrons.

How can you rate sushi? You go there over and over again and consistently are pleased over and above other places in the area. I’m not a sushi guru, but I can tell you my wife and kids love Kissui Sushi.

Best in the area and my favorite sushi place when I come home to visit. I even like it better than most spots in NYC.

I live in town. This place is in my humble opinion is very poor. The portions are small and the general atmosphere is dingy. I eat lots of Sushi at much better restaurants nearby. Skip this place if you can, it’s awful.

I went there one evening over the weekend and they only had 3 people working, 2 sushi chefs and one VERY slow waitress. Even though the place was pretty empty(now I understand why) we waited over 10 minutes to get our drink order in, another 10 – 15 to receive the drinks and our uncomplicated order took over an hour to be served. The table that sat next to us had an even worse experience as they were there for 20 minutes before the waitress even took their order. The food itself was average at best so I came to the following conclusions: 1) This place has declined significantly since the last review. OR 2) The other reviewers here don’t eat out often

This is where I go when I want to just feel like I’m «home». I LOVE their style, simplicity, and the at home feeling. Nothing fancy here. Nothing over the top. Just Sushi the way it’s supposed to be. If you’re looking for grand over the top decorative showy sushi… don’t come here.

Hands down the best sushi in the area. Freshest fish, traditional Japenesse entries. Sushi purest will love this place. Simple clean atmosphere in a family run business where you get personal attention. We eat here as often as we order take out and we are never disappointed.

Reliable, solid, consistently good Japanese restaurant. Kissui is a bit more traditional than the current spate of trendy Japanese places that focus on over-priced special rolls named for action movies heroes etc. Kissui does a superb job with standard dishes and has fresh, inventive specials nightly. Not trendy, not flashy, just really good. BYOB, with a decent wine/beer store just across the way.

Great food, very friendly service! We picked up the food and ate it at home and it was still fresh and tasted great. Only downer was that it was a little pricey, roughly $ 60 for two adults and our 9 year old.

Forget all of the other sushi bars in the tri-city area. Once you visit Sushi Bar Kissui you won’t need to look anywhere else. I’m actually amazed this is the first Unilocal review for this location. Come on in and start yourself off with a salad. Rather than the usual overly sweet ginger carrot salad dressings most sushi places dump over their greens, Kissui uses a soy based dressing. Its so good I swear you can drink it. Next order yourself the Sushi. Kissui is the only local place I have been where they actually get the sushi rice RIGHT! Most places make their rice sweet which tends to overpower the fish. Sushi rice is not supposed to be sweet! As for the cut of fish itself, you get only the freshest fish here — and the cut of fish is perfect. Unlike other places that give you a huge piece of fish that sits upon the sushi pad — thereby ruining the true mixture of the flavors — Kissui cuts their fish to the right size so that it is perfectly matched with the rice below. At the end of the meal, if you are really daring, try some Natto!(fermented soybean) This is a Japanese staple which has never really taken off in America, probably because american palets are so used to the sweetside of flavors that we aren’t used to bitter. You might not like Natto at first — but if you can force yourself to get through it, you will soon find yourself craving it everytime you go.(By the way, I loved Natto right from the start!) I can’t express my appreciation for Sushi Bar Kissui enough! The food is great, the staff is friendly, what else do you need to know! Five stars all the way!
