Specialties

We specialize in one thing and one thing only, beer. We hand craft the finest ales ranging from Blondes to IPAs to Stouts. Since we have been open we have brewed over 40 styles of beer. Have kids or dogs? Don’t worry we are kid and dog friendly so don’t hesitate to bring them in. If you get hungry, food trucks are parked in front Wednesday through Saturday serving up delicious food. We hope that you enjoy each beer that we brew and come back to check out new styles all the time.

History

Established in 2012.

The roots of 38 State are simple really — four friends who decided to try their hand at something in which they had absolutely no experience dabbling in… making beer. We never started doing this to make a buck — we did it for ourselves. Our agenda wasn’t to make a brew good enough to sell, but rather one good enough to drink. So, knowing little about the industry and the process of brewing, we decided to roll the dice and see what kind of trouble we could get ourselves into. Too many hours to count were spent in the garage tinkering with recipes, learning about ingredients, and trying to master the creation of a beer that we could enjoy. Eventually we decided to open a brewery and go from a small garage to a bigger one.

38 State Brewing Company started with a one barrel system producing 28 gallons at a time. Since then we have expanded to a seven barrel system and can produce 210 gallons at a time now.

Business Owner

Born and raised in Colorado, Mike has always loved the state. He has spent a lot of time in Littleton going to Columbine High School and currently resides in the city of Littleton. He got his masters in gardening and dabbled in that for a short time. He quickly got bored with horticulture and picked up the hobby of home brewing. After a while he and a few friends decided to open a brewery in the 38th state of the union.

The presentation of the flight was great but after the bartender dropped the beers off he was no were to be found. I was there about a half hour and nobody stopped by to ask if I needed food or how there beer was. I did notice if you where a regular service was noticeable. Nothing about this strip mall brew pub would draw me back.

Absolutely love this place! The beers are creative and tasty. They’ve added some recently so if you’ve not been in a while, give it another shot! Grabbed a growler of the Santa’s Secret Sauce Stout and it’s delicious.
The location is great, the environment is very chill and it’s an awesome place to catch a game. They have regular giveaways, trivia and really attract a fun crowd. They also have deals all the time, and regular food truck visits to keep you happy. Be sure to talk to Brett if he’s there, such a kick ass guy and very down to earth.
Can’t wait to watch them grow, and keep craft brewing in Colorado what it’s supposed to be!

I am happy to say that this place is on it now! They had a full raft of beers. The beers are good quality and it’s a fun place overall. Kyle was our bartender and he did a great job. Well done, I will be back! The brown and the Red IPA were my faves.

This place rocks. Good people, great beer. Excellent wait staff. Trivia night is a blast. Good beer and food trucks, but could have more variety. Summer is best with games for everyone. Family friendly.

Nice Irish Red and a Tripel. Only beers just before an expansion. They are about to shut down for a month or so going from 1 BBL to 7BBL. I’d definitely come back to check them out later.

I don’t know about «A-​OK», more like «just ok.» The first time I went there I found a couple beers I liked a lot. The next time I went, a couple weeks later, they’d changed their beer choices and I couldn’t find one I liked well enough to pay $ 5 each for. It is part of the the trendy industrial, minimalist craft brewery craze sweeping Colorado these days. No food is offered, but a very overpriced food truck is just outside the door. Food trucks at trendy brewpubs are in right now and for the life of me I can’t figure out why. The two places I’ve been that provide this setup had very overpriced, mediocre food that I had to wait an eternity for. I don’t get the attraction at all. I like the changing beers on tap for the most part, but keep a couple of popular brews on tap so I and others can find something we know we like. Changing the entire line of beers makes it a gamble as to whether there’s anything I’ll like, and at $ 5 each, I don’t want to gamble very many times.
Parking may be a big issue here as well if you go during business hours up to about 7:00pm. It’s in a strip mall area and the other businesses in the area consume most of the limited parking available. You may have to park quite a ways away.

This is a great spot and laid back atmosphere. They just tapped the Dry Irish Stout and it is extremely tasty ! The also have an ESB and Amber on tap right now.
I enjoy stopping in for a quick beer when my daughters are in dance class close by. I recommend stopping in.

Just LOVE this small neighborhood brewery in the ‘burbs! We enjoyed five of their beers in a taster (very cool reclaimed wood serving platter). Beers were a solid four stars, but the dog-​friendly patio in the sunshine made it five stars! There were a couple food trucks in the parking lot– looking forward to trying it out next time we’re there.

What I look for in breweries is a balance of good and affordable beer, spacious and inviting atmosphere, and some things to do to pass the time. Rarely do breweries hit on all three, but 38 State did! I loved the airy space with garage doors, an abundance of games to play, and a nice variety of beers on tap for a good price. I mostly appreciated that it is closer to my house than the ones in Five Points, and thus will be coming back soon!

We have been going to 38 State for a couple months and love this brewery. The beers range from ok to spectacular — as they do most places. Brewing is not an exact science and sometimes the quality is not what was hoped for.
Currently they have the Double Buttes IPA which is awesome and an equally tasty Dunkelweizen. It is my experience that their IPAs are always excellent and they are less successful with Porters and Stouts.
Pros: A very good selection of food trucks. Great live music on Friday and Saturday night. Super nice and friendly wait staff. Very sociable customer base. The large, shared tables are a great chance to make new friends. Good place to watch sports with a couple big flat screens. Good place to take kids and dogs — both are welcome. Games for kids to amuse themselves. Generous with samples (Nothing turns me off faster than a brewer who wants to sell you a taster of everything).
Cons: Hard to find. Small sign on Broadway and nestled back among auto repair shops (38 is in a former repair shop). Run out of beer often. I am told they are going to be greatly expanding their brewing capacity soon.

So I’ve been to this location now 3 times and every time I go it seems to just get better and better every time.
Amazing selection of brews on tap, extremely helpful staff. Very attentive to those like me who don’t understand much when it comes to brewing.
I got the chance to join in a game of Foosball with some new friends o met that afternoon.
Looking forward to meeting new friends and trying different brews on tap.

I’m not sure why all 4 beers we tried were off in favor. Some had rough after-​tastes. We had the brown, black saison, begian IPA and the double IPA. We had a full pour of each not mixing the favors with tasters. These guys need more time to get their flavors together… or figure out their recipes. I’m not sure what the problem is but I know good beer. Grist and Lone Tree are my favorites if you are in South Denver.
I’ll check these guys out again in six months. They were better than 3 Freaks and have a cool building and the staff was efficient.

Redemption! My first review was ho-​hum because my first trip there only had 2 beers on tap, I’ve since been 2 more times and this last time was brewery perfection!
They had 6 taps last night, and I liked them all! Belgian Quad (The Krampus!), Belgian Stout, American Stout, Weizenbock (the C-​470 collaboration), Saison, and Scottish Ale. Predictably the darker beers were my favorite with it being a toss up between The Krampus Belgian Quad and The «You’re Neuken Out» Belgian Stout– but The Krampus was such a unique beer that if I had to pick one, that would be it. The C-​470 Weizenbock was probably my least favorite, the flavors just weren’t jiving for me. Scottish Ales are never my favorite, but their sweeter take on it compared to others I’ve had was interesting. And the Saison would be quite yummy to sip on the patio during warmer days. $ 10 for 6 generous tasters– yes!
We sat at the bar where the bartender introduced herself as well as her cohorts– loved that! It was such a genuine touch. The space is generously sized without feeling cavernous (which some breweries can feel like), and I love all the décor nods to our 38th State. Still not the best location as it’s tucked back in a strip mall, but once you find it and settle in, you forget all about that.
Also, I learned their taps change about every 2 – 3 weeks, which I kind of like. I appreciate breweries that have their «fixed» taps and then seasonals, but I also like what 38 State has going with never knowing if your favorite will be there or not– I know they post taps online, but I like to be surprised!
I will definitely be adding 38 State into my regular brewery rotation, just to see what is new.

We really enjoyed our beers at 38 State, once we found the place. It’s hidden on the back side of a strip mall. That should not deter you from visiting. Warm environs, with the usual food truck, and music available.

My hubby and I were in the area checking out another brewery, but their food truck cancelled. So, we ended up here only to learn they had a food truck cancel too. Delivery menus saved our evening.
Warm, comfortable place. We sat in the back near the video games, cards and games. Surprised they didn’t cram in a few more tables. Trivia night is on Wednesday nights. It was a fun, hot evening. They had their garage doors open and the front door. Made for a nice breeze and a cozy environment.
Friendly bartenders regularly made their rounds. The service was great, enjoyed their beer and the atmosphere. Free pretzels were offered and enjoyed.
Hubby got a flight. We both sampled all their beer. I preferred the Kolsch, but it’s fruitier than I’m used too.
We got a pizza from Jet’s Pizza and enjoyed a relaxing evening out.

So over all we spent an entire afternoon here. I’m a bit angry. The «raffle» we sat at the bar to be in was won by the bar tenders brother. The night before (when they were so busy they ran out of beer) he won as well. Just saying, I saw him give his brother extra tickets.
Based on beer, there was one good one, we had a flight to try them all. There was 3 other choices. But bartender could not tell us much about each one. Including what types if hops were in their IPA. The stout had something wrong, not quite contaminated but not right.
The atmosphere was nice until the raffle shenanigans happened. Puts a sour taste in my mouth when that kind of thing happens. With a plethora of small breweries to choose from, I would not recommend this one.

I noticed this little brewpub a few weeks ago and popped my head in for a quick look around. I liked the ambiance but wasn’t ready for a beer yet that day, so resolved to return another time. My wife and I both had her birthday off from work yesterday, so after doing some gardening and stopping by the Apple store in Park Meadows to get her iPod fixed, we decided to give this place a shot.
They were a bit low on tap selections, with only three running — a rye pale ale, a Belgian pale ale, and a brown ale. Each was good — I found the pales a bit underhopped for the style, but I’m more of an IPA fan so that’s not too surprising. I haven’t had a lot of rye beers, and detected a bit of an odd flavor in the rye pale ale, but it wasn’t an unpleasant flavor, so it might just be rye itself.
We were the only people in the place, and our attentive and very friendly bartender Molly chatted away with us like we were old friends. She served us pretzels in a cup, which is apparently the *only* food they serve when there’s no food truck in the parking lot. Molly told us that the trucks generally make an appearance Wednesday through Sunday, so if you’re hungry eat before you arrive on Monday and Tuesday.
Good beer, good piped-​in music, and a very friendly and pretty bartender in an attractive facility. And there’s an old Ford roadster in the side room that’s worth a look, too!

Love what they’ve done with the space! Tried the sampler of IPA, Kolsch, Great Plains Scottish Ale, and the Chocolate Stout. Have to say I’m not an IPA gal but others with me liked it. The Kolsch was tasty tasty, the Scottish Ale good as well even with a smoky finish which I’m not a huge fan of. The Chocolate Stout should be renamed Coffee Stout. Did not care for this one at all and I’m a fan of dark beers. Two were unavailable at the time I was in so I will go back.

We have been to a couple of these turn-​a-​whole-​in-​the-​wall-​into-​a-​brewery type of places, but the 38th State Brewery gets the award for ambiance. My husband the architect loved the pine beetle kill wood walls.
We tried four beers, and liked three of them. The stout confused me– I thought I was drinking a canned Starbucks espresso beverage for a minute. The Scottish was my favorite– it was similar to an amber but was hazier.
I visited the food truck for a little snack. It seems like it would make more sense for them to move the food truck to the end of the parking lot so it only takes up one spot– it’s current location takes up four highly-​coveted parking spaces.
38th State earned a four star rating in hopes that these little opening month kinks will be worked out.
