These people are incredible. They will not stop calling me. I made the mistake of giving them my number to schedule an estimate, which I immediately realized was a mistake. I have told them repeatedly that I don’t want any of their products. Considering the amount of money they spend to hard-​sell to people, their products must be crap or terribly expensive. One of my neighbors told me the door-​to-​door guy mentioned how bad his windows look, and that he clearly needed to replace them. The neighbor had Andersen (a 5-​star company) windows put in in the last 5 years. Don’t believe anything from American Exteriors.

After a very impressive sales demonstration in our home by American Exteriors, we decided that we would go with them to replace all windows in our home. Unfortunately their design is flawed, and I hope this review can save others from potentially making a very costly choice in window provider … like we did.
We purchased double paned, double hung windows. We liked the idea of opening the window bottom up, and top down, as well as the swing in feature for ease of cleaning. All fine and dandy. Unfortunately, when you unlock and open the window from the bottom, the top window slides down a bit when you close the bottom again, making it necessary to push the top window back up EVERY time you simply open a window. And more often times than not, it’s necessary to fiddle with both windows for awhile just to get the locks lined back up and closed again. This alone is about a 90% decrease in functionality from our 35 year old Anderson windows (never had this problem with those). Right out of the gate our windows have extremely frustrating operating procedure.
Secondly, the bottom of the window frame (bottom of screen frame) has two square holes to drain water. Makes sense, water needs to drain… but there is no screen or mesh or anything to keep bugs out. What’s the point of even having screens on your windows if bugs can still get in when your window is open? Only minutes after having the windows installed, we had flies in between our screens and our windows. Horrible, horrible design. We are going to have to remedy this issue somehow, but it will require work on our part.
Overall we are very disappointed with something that we were very much looking forward to. All in all, it feels as though we’ve downgraded, even though our last windows were decades old. It’s even more distressing when we are reminded of the amount of money we invested.

Somehow these guys got my number. They call several times a week. When I ask to be taken off they keep going with their «sales pitch». They won’t listen and keep trying to sell me. This is unprofessional and annoying. When I do put in new windows there is NO way I will go with this company.

I would give them a zero, if possible. They somehow had our phone number, we assume from a home show from 4 years ago and would call us every single week even after we requested several times to be removed from their list.
Eventually, we were window shopping, so we went ahead and made an appointment with them and other companies. We ended up going with Window World (great price and service) so we called American Exteriors to cancel our appointment. They hung up on us. In order to keep courtesy and ensure no one would show up at our house, we called the number back and it rang and rang and rang.
Pretty brutal service.

Unbelievable. After 4 no show/​late showings to either sell, measure, or install the windows, the final straw was when they did come to install, told us they don’t move blinds and that they had «better things to do» and left, despite being scheduled to do our install for the whole day. We called to cancel, he offered to take $ 400 off the $ 3700 install (for 5 windows…), canceled anyways. Within 2 business days we had a letter from their lawyer seeking $ 3200 for lost fees and such. We agreed to mediate; however, after they noticed we submitted a case to the BBB, they reneged on that saying we had no right to submit anything to the BBB. After spending over $ 1000 on our lawyer, 3 months of back and forth, we finally settled to pay for the windows only (and an extra $ 1000 holding fee for windows…). After all of that unprofessionalism, we hire someone else to install the windows and of course, the measurements are wrong and he has to do major modifications to get them to work.
Hard sale, completely unprofessional, with absolutely NO concept of customer service. If you try to do anything they don’t want, look for a letter from their lawyer as they instructed me, this is their only way to handle it. The worst experience of my life. DO NOT even answer the door if they come knocking.
