Five Star has an incredible team of people — we did a massive backyard remodel (added hot tub, resurfaced and re-​shaped a very dated pool, new hardscaping (patio and retaining wall), and new landscaping), and Concho’s crew handled every single aspect. It was so nice to not have to worry about sub-​contractors and the logistics of coordinating the entire project. I found everyone involved in the process passionate about their work, and they all did exceptional jobs. Everyone was very approachable and worked with us to get us the end result we wanted! I would highly recommend Concho and his team; what could have been a frustrating and lengthy process was in fact efficient and a great experience!

I always question a company with «5 star» in the name but they sure live up to every single star! My husband and I needed our pool re-​plastered and desperately wanted to get rid of our tile circa 1970. We were given a wait time from every competitor of at least 10 weeks, not 5 star! They had the job done in less than one week and their quote was less! Luis, our sales rep was very professional and knew exactly what he was talking about, he and Liz kept us up to date every step of the way. We can’t wait to go swimming in our new pool!

Quality of the work was pretty good for a BBQ island we got done, but communication was absolutely terrible with their sales person. They were chasing down payment when the job was not complete, the last day they were here left the final BBQ island and area including garden full of masonry dust, rubble all over our garden, ruined all of our chair covers and it seems they did not seal the tavertine which stained right away on first use. Could of been 5 star review but the comms and the professionalism at the end was seriously lacking.

Great company. Honest people and always working to make sure the customer is satisfied. Concho is very professional and we highly recommend 5 Star. They completely transformed our pool, patio and front yard earlier this year and are currently finishing another small project right now. Would call them for any pool, landscape or hard scrape project.

This company is great, why would people put posts about appts and people not showing up when 5 Star has such a good team and follows up with customers to make sure they absolutely are 100% satisfied. Matthew M while you were wasting that morning waiting for 5 Star did you think to maybe call them? And concrete work in Central California people, can you say EARTHQUAKE fault? Sometimes individuals and personalities get in the way of professionalism and as a customer I can say that I did not make it 100% nice for 5 Star but they still were SUPER professional and made sure I was 100% satisfied.
And the price… 5 Star was ½ the price of two other well known pool companies in the central valley
I had them re plaster my pool after being empty for over 4 years. They came out and did such a beautiful job. The whole team I interfaced with was professional and courteous to me. Sometimes as a woman I come up against companies that have taken advantage of me but this company showed me only respect and the knowledge that my opinion matters.
I have taken the time to post this because I believe this company to be 5 stars and I have personally sent referrals to them because it is hard to find honest reliable knowledgeable companies these days that are not going to try and swindle money out of a consumer or cut corners to save themselves time or money.

Loved working with this Company especially Concho, he is great. I had some problems and he was there to make sure everything was to my liking, (minor issues) As far as my updated pool and patio it looks wonderful had so many compliments on my pool and backyard, if you really want a good company that will stand behind their work this is the place to go. I will be having some more work done in the spring, which will include some new tile work for my Lani area also new stonework, Concho and his company do it all.

We had our pool completed in Dec. 2013 and we were thrilled, and singing five star praises, it was beautiful. Since then the tile in the spa has started falling off. We have been calling them since April 2015 and NO ONE will return our call. On our last call (early Aug 2015) we were assured we would get a call back the same day… still no call back. I am going to go through the better business bureau and have reached out to an attorney. The lesson learned, a warranty is only as good as the company backing it. Looking to build a pool??? Look elsewhere.
Shortly after writing this review the office manager returned and handled
our complaint promptly and it was completed to our satisfaction. Because of this I will be changing my rating from 1 to 3.

Was looking to get a quote for a very large pool remodel. These guys’ sales process leaves me wondering if they can’t handle scheduling sales appointments, how can anyone have confidence that they will complete a job on schedule?
Their sales guy called me and we talked on the phone. He said he’d call me back the next day to give me an answer on something that he had to ask his manager about… Almost a week later, I finally get a call back, but from someone else named «Louise». He sets up a time with me to come by my place between 8:30 and 9:30 on a Saturday. OK. Early, but I’m OK with that. So I sit around all morning long waiting for this guy to show up, only to finally find his card tucked into my front door.
So apparently, he came by. Knocked on the door. Didn’t get an immediate answer (I was probably out back or upstairs), so he decides to just leave. No phone call, no text, nothing. Wasted my entire morning sitting around for this guy.
I don’t know how their work is, because I didn’t bother to waste anymore time on them. But if it reflects the way they handle sales in their business, I can see why there’s a number of bad reviews on here. Completely unprofessional and inconsiderate.

My wife and I decided to go with this company because they had favorable reviews and little issues as it seemed. All started out well until we got close to the end of the job.
They have turned into a nightmare to deal with. Pool has been nothing but problems since they totally redid it. Did not notify me of needing permits nor did they pull any permits.
Have had pool leaks since 24 hours after pool was filled and still do after 45+ days. In the middle of a drought and they don’t think this is an issue.
Told me they were not going to put up the child fence barrier because it was not part of the contract even though verbally I asked and was reassured it would be. I informed them about CA contractor law that they cannot work on something within code and then leave it out of code. Needless to say they hired someone competent to do the work.
They replaced our entire deck, but took a shortcut and did not replace the skimmers and that has resulted in all the leaking. At least one of them is now sinking and one of tiles inside the skimmer has broken under the pressure. They did not care about the leak nor follow up on my repeated contacts so I had to hire a leak company to find them. Coping stone on top is separating form others as well.
They also built a beautiful waterfall, but placed the large anchor rocks on the dirt and not an a foundation at all and they have settled creating cracks. They also never bothered to seal the waterfall to begin with and it has leaked since day one so we have been unable to use it.
They also severed one of our irrigation lines during the deck building and brought heavy equipment into our yard without informing us and destroyed 400 sq feet of grass. To bring in the equipment they tore out a section of my fence too and then just dropped it in the ground without a concrete footing that was there to begin with.
They claim to be pool experts but did not even realize there was an equalization port for the skimmer in the pool which was a hazard for my kids since it is suction.
I have had to fight them every step of the way to get anything resolved. They seem to think fixing incompetent/​illegal work is warranty work.
I wish I had a review like this to read before we thought about using them because we would not have.
I hope I can save someone else the hassle we are living through.
In December 2015 I was awarded their entire bond of $ 12,500 due to the lack of quality work. The CSLB found several decificiencies in their work as well and noted other possible code violations. According to the Contra Costa County Permits Department a plot of all work was to submitted for the work to be performed and permits would have been issued against the work noted. However since no plot was done and no permit was pulled, I as the homeowner am now responsible for these issues.
If you look them up on CSLB website you will see they changed their Bond Insurance Carrier at the turn of the year. They took bond insurance policy out with another company while they paid off the other bond they owed to the first company. This allowed them to keep their license. I find it a bit appalling that a company with these types of issues can continue to work with a clean license with no notation showing on CSLB. It is clear the CSLB is about keeping contractors working and not protecting consumers.
I will eventually see them in court.

It’s not often you can say someone exceeds your expectations, but Concho and his crew did just that! We had some repairs that needed to get done on our pool, and Concho and his men came in and completed the work in one day including all new tile in our pool and Jacuzzi. We highly recommend 5 Star Pool and will definitely be using them for other projects in the future. Special thanks to Concho and Luz for all your help!

You cannot find a more perfect company to revitalize your pool and deck and entrance to your home. Concha Munoz is the owner and a perfectionist. The work of his specialized crews exceeds all expectations. They are fast and perform the ultimate in quality and look. We had our pool redone and the pool deck redone in travertine. Concha suggested travertine at the home entrance and travertine pillars. The look has exceeded our wildest expectations. We had nine bidders. Not only was 5 Star fast and of the highest quality, they also were the best price. We added new lights in the pool and new pool fixtures, all of this work done at cost. If you are lucky enough to find 5 Star Pool, you do not need to look elsewhere. I would be happy to show you our pool and deck as a reference. Our pool was completed in less than four weeks, start to finish. Other pool competitors quoted at least eight weeks or more.

This company is the bomb! Luis shows up when he says! The owner Concho showed up to drain our pool on time. They did extra work without charging us, their crew was clean professional and on time!!! Price was in our budget! Will always recommend this company

We’re experiencing some issues with the pool after 5 Star finished the job. The pool is leaked, also the stamped concrete is cracked. The cracks on concrete have expanded and are getting worst. They are much wider and longer than before…
March 21, 2015…
5 Star came and fixed the leak. Still other issues with concrete and coping around the pool need to be done. We contacted 5 Star’s office also leaving message to Concho, but no one contacted us back. Finally after a few emails sending to office, plus text messages to Concho, Concho called us. He first apologized for not getting back to us sooner and promised that he would take care of the problems. He suggested us to wait until April when the weather turns warmer…

Chris did a fantastic job for me on my pool in Brentwood. I interviewed four different pool companies for my house in Brentwood, and Chris came with great references, and a clean record with the BBB. He lived up to his name, as he definitely performed as a Five-​Star company should. Recently I had a relative visiting from out of state, who is a pool contractor, and he could not believe that Chris re-​plastered my pool and re-​did the tile work for the price he charged, without cutting any corners. My uncle was extremely impressed. Great job Five-​Star, and Chris and your office staff are awesome!!! Last year I hired 5 Star Pool, to remodel my pool of 23 years. I chose 5 Star Pool because they had comparable ratings to other pool companies on Angie’s list and their price was in the middle of the estimates I received. The main reason was their salesperson was the only one to call to follow up.
The whole project took about 2 months so I wasn’t really able to use the pool last summer. Sometimes, they wouldn’t show up for days, and only came out after I called. They didn’t haul all the debris from the demolition and I was picking up the workers empty soda containers and foil from lunches they left laying around the yard.
When they said they were complete, the stairs to the spa were not completed properly. There were big gaps between the cement stairs and the pool tile. I made the mistake of believing they would fix this as was stated by the foreman.
A week after they finished, a large crack developed near the spa stairs that went completely through the cement, it was not a surface crack. I called numerous times and finally Chris came out and basically blew me off.
A number of months ago I noticed other cracks in the area where they installed an auto fill. Concho finally came out after numerous phone calls, and finally agreed to replace the 2 sections of concrete with the cracks, the one by the spa and the other by the auto refill.
Again, they never called to schedule the work. In the mean time a big chunk of the coping fell off and into the pool, the coping is lifting and cracking in other places too. There are other areas where it is cracking and look like they will be large cracks in a month or so. I had a friend look at the stairs and the area around the spa and it’s pulling away from the tile and is sinking.
The spa area is the main reason I was having the pool redone. I expressed my concern to both the salesman and the foreman about the area around the spa, that it would probably need some kind of pier or footing because the area had sunk. Obviously, no one paid attention.
They finally came out about 2 weeks ago and started replacing the sections we had agreed on. I spoke with the concrete foreman and he said the owner would be by later that day to discuss the issue. I didn’t want them to do everything at one time and not in pieces.
When they started pulling up the concrete, it was wet underneath and the area under the coping was all wet (behind the tiles). The workers started tearing out the stairs around the spa. They finished working that day and haven’t been back in 10 days. They also managed to get broken cement in the pool that I can’t get out with the skimming net.
I don’t know what they did or didn’t do, but all the cement around the pool has dropped (sunk) about a 16^th of an inch and the area around the spa and the pool need to be re-​poured.
I keep calling and asking to have an owner come out and I only get told they are tied up on other jobs or are on vacation.
My next steps in the next 2 weeks is to file a compliant with the Better Business Bureau and to get estimates to repair the issues. I will then be taking 5 Star Pool to court. I have no doubt I will win. A pool and concrete should last more than a year (or a week in regards to the first crack)

I had 5 star remodel my pool in Blackhawk. I thought they did an excellent job. What I really liked the most is the way they treat their customers after the work is done. Chris, one of the owners was always nice and personable even when they came back to take care of a minor warranty issue. I never felt they were $ hungry or greedy. They give the best price and they have done countless pools, even many here in the Blackhawk country club. Both owners, Chris and Concho go the extra mile to work with their customers. Luis the sales guy is also very nice and pleasant to work with.

A very credible neighbor highly recommended 5 Star to re-​plaster our pool because they were very happy with their service. The initial consultation was vey informative, not rushed and no high pressure sales drama. Luis was very honest, knowledgeable and patient.
We have had a lot of construction done at our home over the years and I can tell you that the crew they dispatched for our job was excellent. They showed up on time and got straight to work like true professionals. The tile work done on our pool looks amazing and done to perfection. We decided to go with the pebbletech like plaster and I definitely recommend upgrading to adding the crushed– shiny abalone shells to the mix because it really looks amazing shining back at you in the sunlight, it looks like the stars on a clear night.
It only took them four days to complete the job and it was all done right the first time. We had no problems or issues at all. Throughout the process I called them several times with questions and concerns and they were very pleasant and professional in addressing my questions. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND 5 Star for your pool project they are awesome! I am going to send them as much business referrals as I can, I even recommended them to my pool cleaning service so they can send them referrals too.

I have been slow to post a review because we had a fairly big project that required both months of time and follow up.
I was very impressed with 5 star’s ability to quote and start work last October. We already had a pool by another builder with a recognizable name in the area, installed 15 years ago. At the time, the other builder was a nightmare to deal with, had multiple delays and never gave us the pool we believed we contracted. So, I was really cautious and ready for disappointment when we interviewed multiple pool companies to remodel the mess of a pool we already owned.
We selected 5 star because we felt their price was fair (not cheapest) and they seemed to have a great idea of how to build a pool, fire pit and patio that as proposed, exceeded our expectations. Then, they did just that: exceeded our expectations… every day! They had a project manager who owned their work and addressed all our concerns as they occurred. We asked a lot of questions, including nights returning home from work after the crew was gone, that generated urgent calls to understand things like «where did our irrigation go?» and «why did you take away so much dirt?» The crews were friendly and professional. We always had our questions answered within the day. And, I loved that they would explain their work and clearly took pride in what they did.
We had all the usual issues with unexpected surprises, like a wall that would have been out of proportion and drainage to be dealt with, and weather that refused to cooperate. This was famliar territory from our past pool experience. But this is where 5 star really made a difference. Rather than blame all the unknown surprises, they explained what the new information would mean to our project and then gave us options to resolve. As an example, we were delayed in getting the fill between brick pavers because the silicone grout was reacting to ground moisture so they said, we will be back in 10 weeks when the ground is dry. And they showed up, even though they had been paid in full. And, they relaid a bit of the patio that they didn’t think looked right!
Really, they did the right thing even though they had already been paid. Beat that! Not possible!!! And, they were actually apologetic that the weather had delayed finishing.
We love our new pool and we have used it more in the past few months than all of the last 15 years of the old pool. People rave about the design, which I really have to credit to 5 Star.
Would we recommend 5 Star? ABSOLUTELY! Would we use them again? ABSOLUTELY!

An update on 5 Star Pool — We are still experiencing problems with our mastic splitting and peeling off. (6−19−14). I can’t even get 5 Star to return my calls. I called the manufacturer of the caulk and they suggested that it was not applied properly. I just finished filling out a Better Business Bureau complaint request. We’ll see how that goes. If that goes nowhere then I suppose I’ll have to get another pool repair company to re install the mastic at an added expense.

An update (8−28−14) — 5-​Star came out and removed the old mastic and replaced it with a concrete caulk. It looks good for now and I’m happy with their work. It would have been better had they solved the problem sooner. In the end, we’re happy with the work they did.
