Quality Dentists

This business has repeatedly let me down. I am changing dentists this time. The most recent incident is when I needed a mouth guard, which was pretty urgent as I was grinding teeth which was impacting my neck. Told I had to wait 3 weeks after mold was made — 10 days for lab to make it plus then doctor was on vacation. Ok. Got confirmation call night before appt and confirmed. Drive all the way across town on lunch break and was informed 5 minutes before my appt started that IT WASNT BACK FROM LAB YET. Lab part was only to take 10 days and it had been double that. Called in my confirmation without checking that it hadn’t arrived. Then was told once I was already there. All the lab has said is «they need more time.» This type of stuff has happened several times to me here and I won’t be going back!

Awesome group of people!!! Everyone is friendly, professional, and they make you feel at home :-). The doctors and staff do great work and they care about every patient! Best dentist office in town, hands down!

My family and I have been seen here for the last 12 years. Cleanings are done well. I have needed a lot of cavities filled and even a root canal. Dr. Kim is very friendly and knowledgable.

This is probably my fave dentist that I’ve been to if it is even possible to have a favorite dentist. The hygienists are all very nice and gentle, no man handling of your teeth here.
Dr. Manois caught a cyst growing on my jaw about a year and half ago that was very difficult to see on the X-​ray. I ended up having surgery on it a month later. If he hadn’t caught it would have kept growing and broke my jaw at some point. So kudos to him. Besides that, all of the dentists are nice and don’t keep you waiting.
P. S. They have a cool fish tank which is mandatory in a dentist office.

Great staff, and service. I’ve had several hygienist here and they are fantastic. Maybe to nice, because we end up talking too much with stuff in my mouth. They have current technology, they are fast, but do a good job. I had to leave once because of new insurance, but I was sad, and quickly came back and paid the extra fee. I hate mr. thirsty with a passion, but I run into that at all places. The amazing thing is, the Dr. in this office caught something on my wife’s jaw that could have been very serious, but we got to it in time because of him. The oral surgeon we went to was impressed with the find, as it was so subtle on ex-​rays and something that dentist do not have specialty with.

I understand what an estimate is but their billing is ALWAYS at least $ 150-​$ 300 more than they predict, which of course comes out of pocket. Call around to other dentists, I bet their cleanings are way cheaper than this place… but people don’t think to price check dentists b/​c of insurance.
Also, they like to perform extra services without telling you and then try and charge you a higher price after, such as a white filling instead of a silver OR a deeper cleaning.
Let’s see what else??? Oh, there is a guarantee on any crown you get BUT they do everything in their power not to refit it if you’re initial one is giving you problems.
Pretty much. run away!

My family and I have been going to this dental office for many years and I was very happy with them until the last few visit and now that Dr. M is gone I think it is worse. They are all about making a dollar now. I liked that in the past I really felt like they were honest and didn’t do things that weren’t necessary. Now they are filling my child’s VERY small cavity (if he even had one) in a tooth that now a short time later is ready to fall out. And they did this even after I asked them if it was a permanent tooth and they told me yes. They actually filled two SMALL cavities that day and I am wondering about the second one now. They have recommended a lot of unnecessary work lately for both my husband and I and when we say no not at this time the call to schedule the work anyway.
While I really like the receptionist Ashley and our hygienist Jessica, my family and I won’t be returning to this Dental Office. Wondering now if that is why Dr. M is gone, because he didn’t push enough unnecessary work, he was more about what is best for the patient. I hope those couple of dollars were worth losing a whole family of patients over.

If you’re gonna get drilled, this is the place. Friendly staff and quality work. Tell them John sent you!

I have always had excellent service! The staff is friendly and extremely knowledgable.

My family has been going to Dr. Rickey for well over twenty years at the Modesto office. As my office was located in Pleasanton (then Livermore) I decided to try the Livermore office. I have been extremely pleased with everybody at this office and have been going there for over five years. My family continues to use the Modesto office. However, I relocated my office to Sacramento in August, but continue to use the Livermore office. That should tell you how much I like (yes, I said «like’) to go to this dental office.
Dr. Manaois is my dentist of choice (other than Dr. Rickey). He is a wonderful guy and I trust him explicitly. He always takes the time to discuss issues at length and advises me on what my options are. It’s hard to only point out one of the office staff when they are all great to deal with, but Ashley has always gone out of her way to be nothing less than delighful and helpful. She has always been able to find a way to get me into the office no matter what.
We are getting ready to add the third generation of our family (grandaughter) to go to the dentist, so get ready Dr. Rickey for another completely satisfied patient.

If you are looking for a dentist or in need of a change, I would highly recommend Grant Rickey, DDS & Wesley Wong, DDS & Associates in Livermore.
It has a cool and professional vibe, and the staff is superb. Dr. Teador Manaois is amazing; he will work with you on your options to ensure you are comfortable with what is being presented. Plus he’s very nice, accommodating, and easy to communicate with. Ashley, the receptionist, is always upbeat and friendly. Whether it is your first time or you’re a re-​occurring client, she will make you feel at home. The hygienists (TraciE, TracY, Stacey, Jessica. etc) are sweet and very good in what they do. There has not been a situation where I felt I did not receive great service, and I have been going here for several yrs!
I’m not much to post a review in Unilocal.etc but Grant Rickey, DDS & Wesley Wong, DDS & Associates in Livermore truly deserves the recognition.

I, too, am shocked at some of the reviews for the Livermore office! I love, love, LOVE this office and have only had one less than stellar office visit. I have been going to this dentist for over 8 years, ever since I first moved to Livermore. I’m not afraid of dentists, but who likes going anyway? I continue to go to this dentist been though I moved about 2 years ago. My 8 year old daughter goes here, as does her dad (whom I introduced to this office and he IS afraid of dentists). I even got my hubby to switch to their office.
My dentist is Teodore Manois and he is laid-​back and awesome. I’ve only ever seen him, so I can’t speak for the other dentists. I went in last week because I cracked a crown (that they happened to place on my tooth 5 years ago) and basically, I’m covered under warranty, so to speak. I’m super happy that they’re replacing it for me (it was non repairable).
About 1 year ago, Dr. Manois got my insurance to pre-​approve a veneer for my front tooth because it was dead and dis-​colored. He cracked me up because it seemed to bother him more than it bothered me, and when I came to my appointment, he was like, «finally, we’re going to take care of this!»
About 3 – 4 years ago I got laid off and didn’t have dental insurance for about 2 years, but I didn’t neglect my dental care and it was all because of this office. I paid out of pocket, but they worked within my budget, which I’m very grateful for.
My favorite hygienist is Nita because she is super gentle and has a calming personality.
My one mediocre visit was with the aforementioned shorter, brunette hygienist. She seemed like she was in a bad mood, gave me a hard time about my not so great flossing habit (at the time, I was a little lazy), and made my gums sore and bleed a tiny bit. I have since been flossing regularly because my gums were sore for about 2 – 3 days after that appointment.
Back to the positive, Ashley is an awesome receptionist. She is always bubbly and cheerful and shoots the breeze with you and makes you feel comfortable. She always has a pleasant demeanor on the phone and asks how I’m doing.
Personally, I cannot say enough good things about the Livermore office and will continue to go here until it becomes inconvenient to travel there.

To address several comments:
1. Yes he’s married and expecting a boy in January.
2. He’s out in Livermore now and no longer in SF.
I think he’s an excellent dentist and always address my concerns/​questions. My whole family goes here. My kids love going here. I have been going here for 7 or 8 years now.
I also would like to note that the staff is great. I also like that fact that he treats his staff very well. Most if not all the hygenists work part time to accomidate their own family schedules.
Of course Ashley is the best! She helps with the appointments and gets me my FSA documentation.

Wow, so surprised to see anything but all 5 stars here. Been seeing the doctors in this office for about 6 years because I feel like I get HONEST and gentle dental care. Elsewhere I have had many average dentist, dentist who are too rough but mostly dentist who say a fillings need to be replaced, a tooth can’t be saved, dentist who recommend expensive treatments. I like this office especially because they are conservative and don’t oversell unneeded expensive service. In my history with them I have not found them to be wrong. I am pleased with the service here and will continue to be a patient here even though I have moved out of the immediate area and it would be more convenient to see someone closer to my new residence. I bet they have lots of satisfied customers because its hard to get an appointment.

The BEST! I have moved over an hour away about a year ago. I have been to one dentist in the town I live in and, wasn’t impressed. However the bar has been set high by Dr. Manaois. And by everyone that works there. The staff is polite, and accomidating. I have never had a bad experience.
So needless to say I have not found a replacement. I have been scheduling days off for dental appointments.
A good dentist is really hard to find.
After reading some reviews, I though I should update mine. I am not sure about the «rookie dentist». If the person reviewing is referring to Dr. Manaois, I request him. I am not sure about any of the other dentist, but I had my wisdom teeth pulled, and I had the option of going to an oral surgen, but I prefer he did the work, since he had always done excellent work before.
I have had my teeth cleaned and x rays taken, and I don’t think it’s ever been a «pleasant experience» at any dentist.
So for me, I have to say I have only had good experiences with the staff here. And the receptionist is and always been very polite.
Just my 2 cents for what it’s worth.

OK — so here’s a great experience. I had neglected to visit a dentist since moving a few years ago and my daughter commented on the fact that my teeth were stained. Ouch — mortal wound to the dad’s feelings!
I wanted a great dentist near my house. What I got was a great dentist that’s worth driving to see. A friend strongly recommended Dr. Rickey’s office in Livermore (25 miles from my house in Oakland). I like the Livermore area (1^st street, the wineries, etc) so I figured what the heck.
I called and explained my situation and that’s when I got my first good sign — no tsk, tsk from the staff on the phone — just a friendly explanation of their new patient process and a convenient appointment.
Upon arrival, everything went as explained — no waiting, quick x-​rays and on to the hygenist — Jessica is terrific. GREAT patient care — working at a steady pace, explaining everything before she took the next step and taking care not shame me for being the dad with badly stained teeth. She was gentle, thorough and professional.
How could it get better? Enter Dr. Manaois. Again, very respectful of my feelings — taking the time to know about my reasons for puttting off the visits, reviewing Jessica’s fine work and offering suggestions for future treatment. He’s the most personable dentist I’ve ever seen and it’s great to really like and trust your dentist.
Why the big five? One for the great information on the phone, two for the no-​waiting appointmnet, three for the awesome technology, four for the great staff and five for playing cool music in the office — no elevator music!
Totally excellent care — I’ll drive for that kind of experience, no problem!

I love these dentists! I have never been to this particular office but their two offices in Modesto, Ca are great. I usually hate hate hate the dentist, have had a lot of bad experiences but they will make sure you have a positive experience and they do great work! I am very pleased and satisfied with my dental health. My insurance resently changed so I was needing to find a new place BUT I was so happy with them that I pay a little extra and continue to go to them. I have recommended a lot of friends/​family here too.

If your looking for a great dentist in Livermore. .. keep looking. I moved to the area about six years ago and started seeing Rickey and Wong on the advice of a friend.
The exams sort of hurt my mouth. After a few visits I began asking the dental assistant to stop flossing my teeth. They would continually snap the floss against my gums and that hurt.
Anyway, I settled for the office thinking that dentists are pretty much the same and trips to the dentist are never pleasant.
My last visit, I felt that the receptionist was particularly annoying. I can handle some pain in the chair but they should try to make up for it with excellent customer service. It got me thinking that maybe this wasn’t the place for me.
I researched other dentists in the area and settled on one that looked promising. After going to the new dentist I realized how poor of a place Rickey and Wong is.
The new dentist had delightful customer service, my exams were performed with expertise, the office was more comfortable, and they repaired some fillings that Rickey and Wong had screwed up. (My wife had a sore tooth and it turned out to be an incorrectly filled cavity due to work performed at Rickey and Wong).
Don’t waste another moment of your dental life with Rickey and Wong. You can do better and you know it.

I am happy to see that one of the two five star reviews (both written
on 1.31.09) was removed.
I was/​am suspicious of both of those reviews.
Why?
A couple days after my review was posted, the receptionist at
Dr. Rickey’s office called my home and left a message.
She was obviously sarcastic and said she was calling to schedule
dental appointments for our family.
Hmmm, sorry… not interested.
Methinks the office read my review; they do know who I am, which
is fine. Not fine was that sarcastic call.
It was then the two five star reviews appeared within the same day.
After I posted my review, I was contacted by the Executive Director
of this office via a message on this site.
As per her wish, I called her to discuss my complaints (just some of
them, mind you). Although my family was extremely disappointed with
this office as a whole, I was still willing to offer insight so they could
make changes for the better. I truly do go out of my way to help others.
Yes, I took time out of my schedule to help her. I have no regrets
about trying to help.
I listed several of my many complaints to her, yet felt there was far too
much rationalizing on her part.
She said something regarding their office being better than other local
offices as far as state of the art services.
Honestly, I don’t agree with that; I’ve been to many dental offices in
Livermore that offer more state of the art equipment and testing
procedures.
Additional tidbit:
During my last visit to Dr. Rickey’s office, I had severe pain in my
upper teeth.
An x-​ray was performed yet I was told there was no issue and
nothing further was done.
I continued living with that pain for months… until I went to a new
dental office. It took awhile to be able to see a new dentist because
I had trust issues with dentists by that point.
As per the new dental office I learned that there was a very common
issue with my teeth that has now been remedied.
My guess is that telephone chat with the Executive Director lasted
about 20 minutes. She did thank me for elaborating on my
review/​complaints, yet I don’t think I heard any kind of apology
regarding our treatment at that office.
So be it.
I am not willing to spend more time discussing this review update
or the other complaints. My time with this office is spent.

If you see Dr. Wong you are in luck… well maybe. Dr. Rickey just has his name on the place, I doubt he knows what the interior looks like, I believe they said he works out of the Modesto office.
If you are scheduled with and associate, look out. One of the «associate» dentists (if their name is not on the sign out front it is a good clue they are an «associate») treated me. I asked for my regular dentist (Dr.Wong) and they said he was booked for life or on a longgggg vacation, always some lame excuse.
After I was treated by Dr. Associate I went home, tooth still hurt!
Days later, went back, saw same «associate». Associate said i needed a root canal, he did it. He was awful in all aspects of dentistry. He could not numb the area correctly. I got to feel each little spike being put in my tooth and the yanking and digging out bits of my root. When i complained he put a needle in the «hole» he made in my tooth and said that would work, well it didn’t. HE said we could stop but had sooooo many reason why thats a bad idea. So we finished, I cried all the way home, ok well not home, had to stop for some pain reliever! Well a week later i was still having trouble, come to find out he did the wrong tooth, i was sent to a expensive specialist and had a very positive experience. The one thing they did do was to get me an appointment with the specialist, Dr.Williams.
