Tony’s Kitchen Bar and Grill

For a casual bar and dining atmosphere, Tony’s is great. My family and I started going there when they first opened up and the parking lot was empty. Now when I drive by and constantly see the lot full, I know why. If there is ever a problem with your meal, the manager will insist on making it right and will never make you feel like a pain.
Once the gravy on my potatoes wasn’t quite warm enough (we had a large party, it happens). I asked if they could just go heat it up really quick and they did, and comped the meal. Totally unnecessary but it shows that they really do want people to come back.
On a different occasion, my dad made the mistake of ordering something with an ingredient he didn’t like (he didn’t know it contained it, and the flavor was kind of all through the food). He didn’t want to be a bother so he just sat while the others are. The manager wouldn’t go away until my stubborn and non-​confrontational dad would admit why he wasn’t eating his food. They made him a brand new meal and comped the first one (maybe the second too, I can’t remember). Top notch friendly service and, of course, the food is great. Their burgers are amazing.

I have been coming to Tony’s pretty much since they have been open. Came in last night with my girlfriend and ordered Spaghetti with meatballs, and my girlfriend ordered her favorite Bacon Pizza. Leighton was our server and usual does a great job. This was one of the best plates of Spaghetti I have ever eaten and I come from an Italian family. The meatballs were awesome and the sauce was delicious. My girlfriend as usual loved the Bacon Pizza, its great I highly recommend it. Tony is always friendly to us and the service is great every time we come in. It is really one of our favorite places to dine.

HAPPY HOUR is bomb! The bar area on the side is awesome, 2 tv’s, so you’re not missing anything. Our server was super nice, very attentive. The long island & margarita wasn’t very good but the beer was nice & cold. Get the pizza & fries!!!

Philly steak sandwich was very salty on last trip; i had been asking my family for months to go here, so this was a setback

Shocked that you don’t even get soup or salad with an entre. It’s 2.79 extra!!! The food was decent but definitely overpriced for the quality. We were never offered the bread they’re suppose to be so well known for either!!! I had the salmon with broccoli and sweet potatoes. The salmon was way overcooked, the sweet potato casserole was so sugary and soupy it was gross and the broccoli was delicious! My hubby had the fish and chips which was decent fish, terrible fries and decent cole slaw. recommend you cross the street and go to Thomas’s where you are consistently treated like royalty, the food Is fresh and the dinner salad is downright fabulous! I would only go back to Tony’s and give them one last chance. Fool me once…

My sister and my brother in law bought the fajitas here and didn’t receive any vegetables and very little meat. When we complained to the manager all we got were excuses and no apology. The manager never even came to the table but had his waiter argue that we received 6 ounces of meat (the manager stood and watched). Over half the plate was rice which was nasty tasting. Nobody ate the rice including a customer at another table. We will not go back. They even wanted to charge for another plate of bread which they had brought to the table.

Love this place. Since moving to the area, we have been here several times. It is in a former Coney Island and has some outdoor seating and a drive thru. The servers, hostess, managers are all very friendly. We have ordered the pizza, chicken tenders (which are fresh battered not frozen), and the ribs. All have been excellent. They have something for everyone here– burgers, sandwiches, pasta dishes, appetizers. The portions are large and we always leave with food for the next day. The pita bread and olive oil dipping sauce is a nice feature. I look forward to exploring more of the menu. We love this place!

All around a fantastic place. I come often on my lunch break and sit at the bar. Often served by Debbie and she is great company as I usually come alone to get away from the stressful work environment. I have tried something different each time and today I had the special; pulled pork… Amazing and hit the spot. I wish I lived closer to Tony’s because I would find myself here often. Thankfully I work only a mile away. This place is top on my list for places to visit for lunch and a drink!

The atmosphere is very family friendly and relaxed. I went there with a seven year old. He enjoyed the spaghetti. I had the fish and chips, with sweet potato fries and a salad. Received a generous portion of fish. The spicy ranch dressing was a nice touch. It was nice to have warm bread but it was somewhat bland. We would have enjoyed yeast rolls or something like that more. Staff is cordial and accommodating. The only suggestion I would make is that they serve the salad before the meal and not with it. We will most certainly be back. I am happy that they have a phone ahead drive thru. That will be handy on work evenings. Livonia is lucky to have such a nice little place.

Fun and friendly place and the wait staff is outstanding! Drinks are good and the wings are top notch. One gripe I had was with the pizza. It was undercooked and somewhat bland but that was remedied quickly. I’ll come back for sure.

Delicious food, Tony, the owner, is hilarious & very good to his customers. The waitstaff is awesome. Tristan is so sweet and so fun to have as our server. Great gluten free pizza. Love the mashed potatoes. Great selection of drinks, love the margaritas. Tasty flavored iced teas. Fun trivia nights. Will be back.

OMG!!! What a hidden jem. The staff treats you like family and the food is second to none!

I measure by three different things in comparison to Taco Bell:
DECOR: Upon hearing the name of this restaurant, Tony’s Bar and Grill, I was expecting this place to look like a restaurant. I was way wrong it looks like a fast food place to my shock. On top of that the inside is pretty bland and has no real atmosphere. The bar and dining booths seem placed with no thought process in mind. I have seen Taco Bells way nicer than this place. Pretty awful.
SERVICE: The service was terrible. Food came out slow and waiter wasn’t really attentive. Taco Bell has better service than this place.
FOOD: I got wings and pizza from this place. Looking at the menu it seemed like this place was known for it’s pizza, so I optimistically awaited getting it. The wings were terrible with barely any meat on them with a plain generic buffalo sauce. The pizza was better quality than the wings and a step up, but wasn’t really good. Like all pizzas it was edible, but not worth getting again unlike Taco Bell’s Mexican Pizza. Way better.
FINAL VERDICT: Is Taco Bell better? YES!!!
Don’t even look towards Tony’s Bar and Grill. Just keep driving on through right to Taco Bell. Your stomach, wallet, and mindset will thank you!

Tony’s Kitchen is a perfect addition to the local dining scene.
Family owned and operated, not a chain restaurant.
I will go through some highlights of my recent visits.
A. A great selection of Michigan Craft Beer. Saugatuck Bonfire Brown Ale, Founder’s All Day IPA, Bell’s Two Hearted Ale, 16 oz draughts for $ 4, that is a good price for that. + numerous Craft beers in bottles.
B. Excellent bread with dinner, keep ordering it, they will keep bringing it. It is cooked in the Brick oven and is served with Olive Oil and herbs.
C. Lots of choices for kids. BLT, Soups, Pizza, Fried Pickles slices, Salads.
D. Trivia starts at 8 or 830, for those of us who have to eat late some nights, and love trivia this can be a bonus. We get there, order food for the kids, have a couple beers, get our food, and play trivia. We leave before the end of the game usually. Pro tip, after the kids are done, they run the answers up to the Trivia Master for us, and have a blast, he will even let them request music for between the questions.
E. I’m not expecting Fine-​Dining level service here, I’m expecting kids working to pay for college, and some who don’t know the names of the craft beers, and couldn’t tell you the difference between a Cabernet and a Merlot. I’m cool with that. I’m cool with the waiter entering the order with a side of Mayo, and the Mayo not coming out with the burger. He/​she will fix it without a problem.
Some low-​lights:
F: the last time I went there, the All You Can Eat fish special was something called Swai. I ordered that, and THEN googled it. Unfortunately, it is an endangered catfish from the Mekong Delta region of Asia. they can’t find a local or US caught fish to sell for $ 13.95? Plus, it is not very good, I’d rather have plain old farm-​raised catfish than the Swai. I won’t order it again unless they switch up that source. The Mekong Delta region is an unregulated, overexploited fish resource that US restaurants shouldn’t be utilizing.
G. They have like 5 or 6 of the usual taps of Bud/​Bud light, Labatts, etc…, I say switch two more of those out for a few more Michigan Craft Beers. But I’m biased.
Summary:
I highly recommend this place, not for Fine-​Dining, but for good, home made, fairly priced food, with decent service, and excellent craft beer choices. If you want, you can always go to Chili’s right down the street, and get bad, expensive, processed food, with crappy service, and the worst beer selection in the country.

What is even happening here? My one and only visit was a big ball of confusion. On a Saturday night, it was near empty. The only employees in the place were young guys who looked like they were all college aged. One greeted us with a sarcastic comment about how empty they were… he didn’t seem to really «love» his job. The menu and décor make it hard to determine if they’re trying to be a sports bar or a family diner. It’s like Big Boy, with drink specials.
We were all satisfied with our food (including Nikki C’s «bucket of ribs with surprise fries» — literally a bucket with ribs in it, and when you eat through the ribs there’s a pile of fries at the bottom — surprise! Wtf?), although on my Cobb salad the avocado listed in the menu description was inexplicably left off. The bros who were working that night were getting wrapped up with some friends of theirs sitting in a booth in the back, we had to keep flagging them down for what we needed.
Good food, but weird experience overall.

This place confuses me. Are they trying to be a sports bar or a family diner? I think it falls in a bi-​polar world of both.
Met at the door by a friendly guy that let us pick our spot (it was late and half empty). He and Adam took great care of us, actually. Service was great.
The menu is thorough. Various options, very wordy menu — but I guess it eliminates the need to ask the server a ton of questions.
I got the «bucket of ribs with surprise fries». The ribs are literally served in a bucket on top of fries. I had to ask for a plate for my bones — for the future, they should probably serve the bucket on top of a saucer so people can have a place to put their bones since there are surprise fries on the bottom of the bucket. The bbq sauce was good and I really liked their fries. My friend ordered a burger with no tomato. When it was delivered to our table, he said «and one _​_​_​_​burger, no tomato.» She opened the burger and guess what was on it. Tomato. Not a big deal, she can pick it off… but I mean, if she asks for it with no tomato, then by gosh, don’t put a tomato on it.
My other friend got a cobb salad and the description listed avocado. Guess what wasn’t on the salad. Avacado. Again, no biggie… but if the description calls for avocado, then by gosh, put an avocado slice or two on it.
We went there because we happened to be in the area and wanted a drink and a bite to eat. I probably wouldn’t go out of my way or make a special trip back. But the food was good and the serving sizes were pretty good.

I have passed by Tony’s a few times and never really noticed it too much, other than to think it was just another diner… boy was I wrong.
When you pull into the parking lot, it feels as if you are pulling into a Pizza Hut or something similar, but don’t sell yourself short… you need to go in and give a a try.
When approaching the door, I was greeted by an employee who opened the door and welcomed me with a great attitude, what a great first impression!
Next the hostess took me to the table and engaged in a little dialogue, and shared some intel on the specials and other stuff.
The place is clean, has a bar, a great looking wood fired pizza oven and upon doing a bit of window shopping at the other tables, I could see that the oven was producing some good looking pies. They did have tv’s around the place which is something I think is really tacky in a restaurant, but they only had 3 of them in the dining room and were up very high so it wasn’t too much of an annoyance.
One of the specials tonight was prime rib — 12 ½ oz for $ 14.99, with a side of mashed and some broccoli. The prime rib was cooked absolutely perfect, and was amazing.
Even the bread and oil they give you is fantastically fresh, soft and not too heavy, so much better than when places slap a basket of rolls or bread on your table.
The manager passed through the dining room twice during my visit, making contact with each guest. The server was very attentive, and the busser was on top of things.
I am sold on Tony’s for 1^st impressions, for cleanliness, for ambiance, attitude, freshness, quality, preparation, in execution and for manager involvement.
This place would be fun for 2 or for 10, and with the variation of offering, would only disappoint the most uptight and picky people that are likely to never be satisfied.
On the way out I saw that they have a drive up «carry-​out» window for when you order ahead (and I suppose you could order right there). It has a covered area where you pull up and the staff come to your car to bring your order.
For what it is and in its class, Tony’s clearly meets and even exceeds 5 stars.

Great service — almost too good. Lots of smiling people and what do you needs and you have a great day!
Great food — warm bread? I’ll eat that any day, and if it’s any hint at what their pizza tastes like then I’m coming back for that. Chicken sandwich with pesto was awesome, though there needed to be a bit more pesto. Enough sandwich to have two lunches. Would definitely return!

Went back to Tony’s for lunch today. They were doing a good amount of business, and Tony himself was mingling with the customers and even making some pizza.
Today I opted for a ham supreme sandwich. It was actually twice as much as I could eat, but good quality and pretty tasty. I really like the battered fries as well.
My friend got the Cajun pasta and said it was much better than the last time he had it. The recipe had obviously changed because the color went from orange-​ish to more blackened creamy.
The bread is a good concept, but it’s missing. It really has no flavor, and the olive oil with spices isn’t helping much. I’d rather see rolls & butter or soft bread sticks.
So far, I’ll return to try yet another of the dishes on their menu.

I wish I had spied Kris A’s review before I swung by here. Upside is it prompted me to add him to my Unilocal stalker list so I will not miss future heads ups. I thought he was already on it.
I wanted to like this place. I really did. The staff was super friendly. The service was cheerfully good. The prices (woohoo half off apps from 4 – 7) were decent. It’s not a fricking chain. All good points. Sadly, not enough to overcome the uninspired type food.
The queso was good-​ish. Very one note on the cheese but I actually liked the seasoned burger (it would have rocked with chorizo instead IMO) and the pico accent. Chips alongside it though were just so ummm generic and not exactly a huge portion to go with. Fried pickles were just ok chips with ranch, again nothing special at all. Nothing like some of the beer battered cravables I have found locally and at a much cheaper price.
She picked wrong, you say, hmmm not much more special to choose from on this particular menu though. The apps menu itself was pretty much your totally boring standards. Like they said to themselves, «Hey what does every other restaurant sell? Let’s do that!». A few bar standards. some Italian, a potsticker option and hummus. Yeah that wide of a focus always means awesome. Mmmhmmm. It kinda made me flash mentally on TGI Fridays.
The mini loaf of bread with seasoned olive oil was a happy addition. Pretty tasty. Hard to mess up freshly baked carbs. I appreciated it though. It perked me up.
My husband had the pork tenderloin. The whte gravy needed a kick of tobasco or a sharper snappier pepper grind. The mashed potatoes were similarly just kind of blah. Veggies, not much to say there. Pork was well cooked, it just all needed some punch.
I went with the honey orange glazed chicken because it actually sounded more interesting (they promised zesty), it was something grilled to counteract the heavy apps and I wanted something to be able to reheat later as I was getting stuffed. That sweet potato casserole lured me, I confess. It was ok. Too sweet as the chicken was more sweet and less zest, so the sweet potato with it was just kind of overkill. My mistake, I really should know better as I am sensitive to sweet. The chicken was grilled very nicely though I will say.
Eh, it’s not a bad place, I just wasn’t dazzled.
ETA: Yeah I did not read the owner’s bio before I wrote this review. His major experience was a TGI Friday’s so I guess I was not too far off the mark. Yep, apparently you can tell where he was influenced.
