Pets Plus-Reptiles & Exotic Fish

I’ve always stopped by this location to poke my nose in and sometimes buy things for my birds bit mostly to look at the birds & now I think it’s time I voice my opinion. The cages for the dog had no bottoms, it was the type of bottom you’d put in a bird cage. Their little paws were slipping through the square bars as they jumped about in the small cages. They had small thin blankets as if it made a difference to lay on. No food or water bowls, for the puppies. Their prices are way too high for dogs. They say that they’re «pure breed» but don’t come with any papers. Last time I checked a dog without papers is not in 700 – 900 price range. Once they had a bulldog and a wanted 1000+ On top of that the dogs are either stepping in their own runny shit, or have some medical problem. Most don’t even look like they should be away from their mothers. There’s always been cases of them getting dogs from puppy Mills but that’s another story.
They used to have a big Bird area and the budgie birds were way too many in one cage, caked with towers of poop in the bottom of the cage a long with a beautiful rose bird that wasn’t for sale. What’s the point of keeping a beautiful Parrot cooped up in a medium sized cage with no toys when it isn’t for sale? To the new bird area they built– I still feel as they pack one too many of the bird in a small cage. I get the point you’re showing these birds off to sell, but give them enough room.
Next is the rabbits and guinea pigs. Sure bunny’s are cute but not when their eyes are caked shut for some reason. I couldn’t begin to tell you the sickly looking rabbits ice even over the years there. The Guinea pigs, ugh, one time when lifting up one of the houses they hide in to see them (I saw babies running around) the mother had just given birth and there was dead baby Guinea pigs. I told one of the staff and they apologized for what had happened and said the father must have gotten to them.
For the ferrets. Little cutie pies. No matter what day you go, no matter what time you want to visit I can tell you there will be a lot of shit in their corners and in the litter pan. There’s even usually flies in there. I know with having ferrets at any store there’s going to be shit, they shit a lot. But the amount you usually see in their cage is ridiculous.
When I put a deposit on my ferret and they held her in the back room she came to me in a small box with holes punches into it with a knife or a pen it seemed. That poor baby looked nothing like the day I saw her. She had gunk covered all over her eyes. They let her sit in the nasty ass mice and rat room. That whole area smells like piss once they open the door or toy step in. I’d rather have the smell of bleach burn my eyes out then to go in that room again.
The hamsters and mice area always smells.
I have nothing to say about the fish area because I don’t know fish too sell, but some tanks seemed packed. My only suggestion would for them to only sell fish. They couldn’t mess that up, right?
They have big reptiles for sale that I believe shouldn’t be there. They got in trouble some time ago for feeding animals that didn’t sell to the big ass snake they have in the back that isn’t for sale, and the crocodiles that are not for sale.
Hmm. Why so animals that aren’t for sale? Maybe if they lowered the amount of animals they had they could make is a successful place. They always seemed understaffed, I’ve seen them let people hold animals and walk away to tend to something else. No wonder people get away with stealing pets, and mishandling your animals!
I knew the owner and talked to her when I was in. It’s a shame to see this place going further downhill after her passing. I never really opened my mouth because there’s always that one sleazy pet shop that everyone knows, but now I will no longer keep my mouth shut.
If you have made it through everything I had just listed I have seen over the passed 4 years; you will take my words of advice and NOT GO TO THIS PET SHOP.
Take a moment to look at some of the non recommended reviews. I have heard so many stories from classmates telling me animals they had gotten from here dying or being sick. I’ve heard a few good stories but let’s me honest. Do you really want to buy an animal from some place that just views them as profit?
I’ve seen some pretty bad dog stores in the city, but honestly, they get the gold prize of being blah.

I have never had a problem with this pet store, in fact, the older guy behind the counter always hooks me up with deals, example i was $ 4 short for my order and he let me go on it, i had a fish die on me within 2 days of buying one from them and they had no problems giving me a new fish for free, and i bought 2 frontline boxes from them and he discounted both of them. I was just in there the other day because i have 5 goldfish and my 10 gallon tank is cloudy all the time, he actually told me not to buy a bigger filter because he was afraid that it still wouldn’t do anything for the tank and he didn’t want me to spend my money on something that wouldn’t work, so he suggested to buy a filter pad that they use in their salt water tanks and wrap it around the little hose that goes in my tank from my filter, it works great! Every person that i have seen working there has been nothing but nice and friendly to every customer, and really enjoys working with all the pets.

This place has a very good selection of Saltwater invertabrates. They also have a huge reptile room.

Ok… so here’s the deal… last summer I went to the fair and I accidently won one of those ping pong ball fish, so I took it home named it Louie and put it in a little 2 gallon tank (one of those kit deals with the filter/​pump thingy and everything) and the friggin thing actually survived the first week! So he is now part of the family and I want to pimp out the cheapo tank so off I go to the local pet shop. Huge aquarium/​fish section, very impressive… I thought that I wanted to get one of those sucker fish to help with the algae issue and aquarium guy talks me into getting a snail since 2 gallons is apparently not really big enough for more than one fish. So Todd enters the family… Todd was not so lucky… made it about a week and a half… RIP Todd… next thing I know Louie is sort of swimming around the surface one-​finning it in a circle… it did not look good… so I seclude him in a smaller bowl for a week and he rallies (whew!) I cleaned the tank changed the filters put him back into the tank now Louie has these strange black spots all over but is acting fine… turns out that gold fish can get some sort of a parasite from snails… who knew… apparently not homie at the pet store… psshhh…anyway Louie is still kicking it and I am considering just changing his name to Spek. as for the pet store the fish guy was kinda helpful, or tried to be I guess… the young girl at the counter was nice… well not so much nice as made to look nice in comparison with the old bag behind the counter on the phone who stopped personal chat on the phone only long enough to give me a disdainful look for interrupting her while motioning to the much younger cashier to actually check me out. That old bag comment was harsh… I take it back… I truly like to support local businesses but do they have to make it so hard sometimes?

I can’t say anything bad about Pet’s Plus. It is where I bought my baby, Neill, who was the first pug I ever owned. I stop in there often to admire the puppies and kittens they have for sale. I definitely see a Bengal kitten in my future.
Aside from the pug, I have also bought fish, lizards, snakes, guinea pigs, hamsters, bunnies, and a Siamese cat. I have always been happy with my purchase. I have bought the best pets from Pet Plus! Some of the items can be purchased cheaper elsewhere, such as piddle pads, but they have a unique variety of animal greeting cards and cookies as well as medical supplies such as ear cleaning solutions. What separates Pets Plus from other pet stores is their service. When you buy a pet, you want it to be from someone you trust. And I absolutely trust Pet Plus.

I cant say enough about Pets Plus! The have dogs and cats and birds and ginnie pigs and hamsters and some long animal and fish and bunnies and cats! My one complint is that it smells like animals in their. Is Febreeze safe to spray on there animals so they wouldnt smell so much? I dont want to have to drive all the way to the Buffalo zoo and pay for it, so I take my kid’s here instead of going to the zoo. Gramma wont come with us because she doesnt like snakes. The last time I was there I think the parrot swore at me. Maybe it has terret’s?
