History

Established in 1822.

The Spalding Hardware Company was established in 1822 in Lockport, NY, in a log building just south of the Erie Canal. In 1956, LaVern Ulrich and William Hoffman bought the company and moved Spalding Hardware to its current location on Davison Road. In 1978, Spalding Hardware partnered with Ace Hardware, becoming one of the first stores in the Northeast to carry Ace products. By 1983, Hoffman retired and sold his share to Ulrich, so that Ulrich became the sole proprietor. The company, now consisting of two great locations, is still owned by the Ulrich family today.
