Rip off! Over-priced is an understatement! Come prepared — or head to the Kroger(sells liquor) or Walmart. Also– the flavored ice cream is not worth it– chocolate was actually gross.

We were very unimpressed and will drive out of our way just to avoid giving them our business. Specifically, we went earlier in the day to purchase beer and sundries as the store was close to our rental cabin. At the time, the store was packed with people seemingly enjoying ice cream. I asked the clerk their hours and was informed they closed at 8pm. Upon returning at 7:30 to try their ice cream, I was curtly told that they had already turned the machines off. I went ahead and made other purchases and the employees were rude as they continued to mop and clean 30 minutes before their posted closing time. I try to support local businesses and despite their convenient location, I will go to walmart next time, which says a lot.

Place advantageously near Old Man’s Cave, Conkel’s Hollow, Rock House and other hiking and tourism favorites, Old Man’s Cave General Store services the visitors very well. Sure, you get clipped a little bit for their convenient location. But you are, after all, out for a day in beautiful Hocking Hills. The price is right because location, location, location. Two things I thought were great. First, management makes fresh sandwiches every morning. I got there early one morning and the sandwich shop was busy. Roast beef and swiss, turkey and swiss, ham and cheese, and other sandwiches were all being wrapped and placed in the front-view coolers. And they’re cutting meat fresh. Nice! Then there is the ice-cream offer: 24-flavors of creamy whip ice cream cones. Boo yeah! There’s nothing like a tall curly top chocolate or vanilla or pumpkin ice cream cone after a long hike. Another nice twist: outdoor seating. You can use picnic tables and 2-top and 4-top tables on the store’s veranda to rest up before leaving Hocking Hills or heading back to a cabin rental following restocking of goods. IMPORTANT: This is not a bathroom stop. Lastly, the bag ice is small bag. No large bags so if you’re going for big cooler fill-ups, you’ll pay a bit more.

This place was pretty alright. If you want to spare yourself the drive to Logan main downtown and need groceries this would be a good place to stop near Old Man’s Cave. Keep in mind there is quite the mark up on convenience items, but you can definitely get your fix for most necessities here. The biggest attraction for this place for me was the advertised 24 flavors of soft serve ice cream. Have you ever heard of such a thing? Ingenious little assembly line setup to create these flavors made these over priced cones quite delicious. I am willing to spend 5 bucks on a cup of Starbucks, and I would be willing again to purchase a $ 3.00ish(pumpkin flavor of course) soft serve cone.
