I was in desperate need of a new couch. My old one, one of the few remaining items that came with me as a transplant from Wisconsin, was quickly wearing out it’s welcome. It is sort of quaint, in a way, to have a futon with such a rich «history» to lament about. However, it was beginning to feel painfully embarrassing compared to the rest of the more cosmopolitan furnishing of my apartment. Plus, let’s be honest here, nobody, save perhaps artists or the rare sociopathic hipster should have a futon post college. Just don’t do it.
I got rid of the futon via the free section of CL (shockingly, someone came and got it within 24 hours of posting), and began my search for a replacement. Like most any other search for goods these days, my process began online. I should of heeded the warnings of my fellow Unilocalers as my experience here was less than stellar. The only thing that got me past this mental hurdle was price. The leather sectional I was after was a solid grand less at Baxton than I could of been able to find elsewhere.
Baxton does post all of their inventory online, but they shockingly have no online checkout system to make a purchase. Lame! It is not exactly a great feat of web development these days to install a shopping cart and checkout API on a website. Get with the program folks. Because of this, I had to do everything over the phone and then fax over a CC authorization. It was really a pain in the ass honestly, and I am sure these guys lose deals every month due to this. Not everyone wants to deal with Chicagoland traffic after work to actually pay a visit to the physical showroom.
What really downgrades my experience here is with the delivery. First of all, they only make deliveries to certain areas when they have enough orders fill a truck. While this is understandable to a point, having to wait over 2 weeks for new furniture to be delivered sucks. Nothing like sitting in a camping chair playing video games in your living room for a couple of weeks to make you really appreciate a couch.
So delivery day finally arrives and low and behold they managed to forget the chaise lounger portion of the sectional. I find this a curious oversight for those loading the truck. How many people do you know that order a sectional with one side missing? I then had to wait another week for them to bring the other half. They offered nothing in the form of compensation to cover for this mistake. Also, they will not assemble anything for you on delivery, which is a tad shocking considering the high cost they charge for delivery.
Steer clear of this place. The prices seem attractive, but how much is your time and frustration worth to you?

We ordered a bedroom set from here in January 2015. After we purchased it, they informed us that the nightstands were not in stock and we’d have to come to pick them up in March, and they wouldn’t deliver those unless we paid for a second delivery. I wish they’d told us before we ordered and signed the papers, but whatever. We agreed to pick them up in March.
Then in March, Baxton called us to let us know that the nightstands have been discontinued and there was nothing they could do about that. They said our only option was to come in and find 2 nightstands to exchange them for. We went in on the following Sunday and looked, but no other nightstands matched our bedroom set. We did not want different colored and mismatching furniture. We called the manager who took like 20 minutes to come out and he showed us a few (there were only like 5 total to even choose from) that «sort of matched» and expected us to just go with that. I refused and said that if they cannot give us the exact nightstands that go with the rest of our bedroom set, they should exchange the entire set for us for another bedroom set we liked, and not charge for another delivery since it was their fault. He first said that the new bedroom set we liked was $ 200 more, and I agreed to pay for it as long as they swapped out the rest of our bedroom set and didn’t charge for delivery. I got really annoyed at their terrible customer service and told him it was our first experience with them and it was a bad one, and that I would let people know about their poor service. He left for a half hour, came back, and said he would just grant us an even exchange so we didn’t have to pay them the extra $ 200. This is the only reason I gave it 2 stars. The reason I won’t give it more is because I really had to argue and fight for them to let us exchange the whole set — they tried very hard at first to just settle for 2 «sort of matching» nightstands so basically we’d have 2 different bedroom sets going on in our room.

I’m very pleased with my interactions with Baxton and their representative Eric from the Lombard store. I found the Quincy linen platform bed online and contacted the store by phone. The price is rock-​bottom, and then from that there was a 20% discount offered on the website. Delivery ($ 85 to the loading dock of my high rise building) went just as scheduled, and was less than a week from the time of my order. The bed is fine, solid, and attractive; the fabric has a mild chemical smell that seems to be dissipating. It came in two boxes, and I put it together in a couple of hours max. One of the installation clips was cracked when I unpacked the bed; I damaged another when I was putting it together. I called Eric and he immediately agreed to send out a couple of new ones to me. Go into this with your eyes open – it’s inexpensive furniture, and their paperwork says they will absolutely not take anything back. But for the money, I am entirely satisfied with the product and with the service I received. I would definitely shop there again.

I ordered a unit at the Lombard location and was told AFTER i purchased it that i needed to go and pick it up in Bensenville. When i arrived in Bensenvill the next day i was told they didnt have any of the units i had ordered AND paid for already. I was told my money would be refunded. When i called the Lombard store the next day to check and confirm on my refund which, was what i was told to do by the wharehouse staff… I got ROGER on the phone who is supposedly a manager… he was the rudest, most unprofessional «manager» i have ever dealt with … As a director at my company I would hope to never have a manager as unprofessional and rude as Roger was over the phone. I would rather go deal with the crowds at IKEA, or even furniture at GoodWIll then ever give this place my business OR money again. Roger that!

I ordered a very nice media center. It fits all the specifications that I wanted. It’s going to look great once it’s assembled. The downside? It’s missing these Euro screws. I emailed them the next day to request them. I asked if they could send it immediately. 9 days later a package was received. But, GUESS WHAT!!!, I was sent many other screws but not the ones I need.
I haven’t been able to speak to anyone about this, since I purchased it online, despite leaving a few phone and email messages.
This a huge disappointment.

They have very cheap, poorly-​made furniture. Personally I wouldn’t buy anything here but if you’re at a point in your life where you just need cheap disposable furniture you might consider this place. Note: Do not use the bathrooms.

DO NOT SHOP AT THIS STORE. Their customer service is absolutely horrible. They charge $ 130 for delivery into your home (cheaper for front door delivery), but it does not include assembly. It was a nightmare to get the delivery scheduled. We purchased a king bed and once we finally got it assembled (the instructions were pretty bad) we noticed several stains on the headboard. The company would not do a thing to remedy the issue because we had signed off on the delivery. How do they expect their customers to inspect items that are packaged up?

How do you walk into a showroom where there are two other customers and get no getting or service for a full 30 mins?!
Because the three associates are too busy eating Jimmy John’s at the front desk!
At least one was nice enough to say goodbye on the way out.
Don’t bother with this place.

I finally managed to get to the Lombard Showroom to see a piece of furniture «in person». Wow! There were some amazing pieces on display — and that’s what you will find at the Lombard Showroom –Display items — apart from the Clearance Room where the items are «as is» and drastically reduced because of dirt, scratch or other defect, most of the furniture is there to show you what you can order.
The salesperson was very helpful explaining the process. If you decide to purchase furniture, you place an order and the salesperson orders it from the warehouse for you. In addition to placing an order in the store, they will take a phone order with a substantiated credit card form that can be faxed or scanned and sent via e-​mail. In my case the ottoman I was interested in was being unloaded from a shipment, and I was told it would be ready for pick up next week.
Much of the furniture is sold on-​line at sites like Wayfair, One Kings Lane, and Haute Look. The prices are better here at Baxton Studio because the middle-​man is eliminated, and you can pick it up yourself to save delivery charges. They will deliver for an additional charge.
So, to be clear, this is not an outlet for a high-​end store like Smithe or Toms. The quality of the product is not at that level. However, I was pleased to see the ottoman I was considering, so that I could check it out before buying — I could inspect the fabric, the tightness of the tufting, and the sturdiness of the legs. For me, it may still be in the running because I can replace the fabric and it would be elevated to a more luxurious piece. The fabric which was «linen beige» is not going to be the right color for my room, and I saw in the Clearance section a similar piece in the same fabric that had «pilled» from rubbing against something. My take on it: for the discounted price of the ottoman, plus new upholstery, I could have a «custom» ottoman exactly as I imagined.
This week Ottomans were on sale with 10% off. If you sign up for e-​mails you will be alerted to special sales … that is what prompted me to visit today.

Blah furniture. off to the next furniture store…

I was impressed by the store but had been to their warehouse location in 2012. I was assured that they had the same merchandise but wondered to myself if that were true. I decided on a bed, bookcase, and a project chair from their clearance room.
Fortunately for me, I decided to drive to the warehouse. Since it was the same company, I thought nothing of the trouble canceling the first order and buying everything from the warehouse would cause. This is where things went south for me. I was told that it couldn’t be done unless I emailed information I would feel comfortable just giving to anyone so they could take care of it. This would take no more than three days and this was after a heated discussion with the manager. He gave me his email address and said he would take care of it the next day. I sent the email and it turned out to be his off day. Long story short, two weeks later I got the credit.
When two stars says I’ve experienced better, I would be referring to the Bensenville location.

Today is April 4^th. I ordered a sectional on March 12^th and they said they would have it in Stock March 21^st. Now the sales girl is on maternity leave which is so convenient, and my sofa is estimated to be at the warehouse on April 17^th. Turns out the march 21^st shipment never even arrived. They never emailed. They never called. And now they want a written letter in order for me to get my refund. I have to cancel my moving truck now and I wouldn’t even be mad if they just delivered it when they get it in for free since they lied. I would have never ordered a sofa if it was an estimated in Stock date. This is the most ridiculous thing I have ever encountered.

I have to say I was quite impressed with this store, in terms not only of GREAT prices, but also in terms of excellent customer service. I worked with Roger, the manager, and he was absolutely fabulous in helping me find the PERFECT bed and quality SERTA mattress for my daughter, and saved me a BUNDLE of money from what it was going for on other websites like Amazon or Wayfair. Roger was professional, patient with me, and hardworking to make sure I was happy – his follow through in checking on my order was exemplary too!
Alexandria in their delivery office was also very accommodating with our family’s crazy schedule.
Not only did I get a beautiful bed and great mattress, I found a place that I can depend on for great furniture at a great price! I’d highly recommend going to this store and plan on buying more form them in the future!

Good prices and great clearance room! If you are looking for inexpensive decent furniture, Baxton is definitely worth a visit. Great selection of dining chairs, living room furniture, ottomans, etc. It is kind of a mix and match warehouse type environment. Great if you are looking for a deal on a random piece of furniture to complete a room (arm chair, ottoman, replacement dining chairs…).
We bought a sectional couch and storage ottoman here today. One of the downsides is that they could not tell us what kind of fabric it is or what the cleaning instructions are. So, even if you are buying something new and not a piece on the floor, there is very limited info about what you are getting… That part is not my favorite.
We tried this store a few months ago for dining room furniture and a china/​storage cabinet. Really limited selection in this area! No china cabinets. They do have a few wine racks and book cases though.
Delivery to your front door is $ 85. If you want it brought in the house it is $ 135…kind of pricey! We will be waiting 3 weeks for our furniture to come in and then will pick it up at the warehouse in Bensenville (971 Supreme Dr, Bensenville).

Some very awesome deals and pieces. Although some pieces lacked quality (wobbly chair legs), its easy to differentiate. The sales person were honest, helpful and addressed our concerns. We got a great deal on an entertainment/​media unit.

Good collection, good quality, good prices! We had got some office furniture here that lasted 5 years with heavy use. I now have ottomans from Baxton & they’re really comfy!

My best friend and I trekked out to Lombard to check this place out after he saw they had the ghost chairs he had been eyeing forever. I noticed they had this amazing acrylic desk chair and this rocker that I wanted for my new apartment so we bribed my boyfriend to drive us out to the burbs. SO. WORTH. IT.
First of all, they have AMAZING chairs at INSANE prices. When we got there, everything was 20% off. I wound up with this adorable tufted accent chair and my BFF took the armless ghost chair in charcoal. I had planned on getting getting the desk chair new and then we went into the clearance section and there was my desk chair on clearance with an additional 30% off. The condition was perfect, not a scratch and our sales guy, Roger, gave me another discount on it so I was one happy girl.
The bonus was that after hearing that we would have to place our order and pick up our stuff in Bensenville (not a quick trip mind you), we were super pleased to find out that they actually had all of the items we wanted in the back so we got to load up the car with our goodies on the spot.
Roger was fantastic and even bubbled wrapped our items to protect them from scratches. He couldn’t have been more helpful or nicer.
Things to know:
The prices are literally the best if you’re looking for good quality modern furniture. They have a vast selection of Eames looking chairs for ¼ of the price. Such a score.
The location in Lombard is a showroom only. You have to place an order and then pick up your items in Bensenville. But sometimes they have the items in the back if you’re lucky and if you see two floor models of the same item and only need one, ask them if you can take one of those. This is what we did and it saved us an extra trip.
The clearance room is sick. So much gorgeous stuff and most of it is in perfect condition. You get to take it with you on the spot and you get to take an additional 30% off of already marked down stuff.

Here is an update from the last one I wrote from these guys. After another 2 weeks of struggling FINALLY came to terms by getting a floor model couch at 30% discount. The floor model was good and the price couldnt be beat so I took it. A month after using the couch all looks good with it. Good quality so far and I’m happy with the product. The sales people really did try and I know they didnt have anything to do with the stock and what was at the warehouse so they are not to blame but someone really needs to take responsibility so what goes on because I would give the place 5 star were the customer service better.
So my final score is 3 stars. Quality and price is great but you better hope they actually have your item in stock otherwise your in for a pain in the ass ride!

I completely disagree with the low Rating given in a prior review. If you’ve researched modern furniture at all, you know that it doesn’t have a very Expensive look/​feel, however you do pay an arm and a leg for it. The store was EXTREMELY reasonably priced… Probably the best I’ve ever seen for modern furniture, The furniture was just as I expected, and I appreciated that Tom, my very considerate sales person, did not pounce on me with five other sales people the moment I walked in the door. He greeted me and then let me shop and checked on me every once in a while to see if I needed some assistance.
I did make a purchase that day, and I’m going back to purchase at least a couple more items very soon.
Overall I was very pleased with Baxton furniture, and if you like modern furniture but you are on the budget, this is the place to shop!
