Travers Tree Service

Travers Tree Service stomped all over my property without my permission while I was gone! Ruined an entire ice plant section on a slope which will be extremely difficult to grow back.
2 trees between mine and the neighbor that hired them have been raped and ruined. A terrible job. Also everything in their path has been left in ruins.
They left a mess in the street, left a mess all over my yard, and my gardener had to clean up.
I have lived here 30 years, and it is so awful, I feel sick looking at my yard now. I am almost in tears.
The red tailed hawk nest that was a staple, used year after year, is GONE.
I hate what has happened, and it has ended a nice neighborly relationship with the next door people, that hired this horrible company.
Should be named Travers Tree Destruction.

As a business owner I am appalled at this company. I came home to discover that my neighbor’s tree was being cut down and no one notified us that they would need to be on our property. The workers were in our backyard «cleaning up» but had to reach over a locked gate, unlatch it and open the gate to get in. Completely UNACCEPTABLE. They left a complete path of destruction, moved trash cans from the side of our house onto our front porch and LEFT THEM THERE. Our vehicle in the driveway was now wrecked from being so dirty from the removal. Our front porch had an entire layer of dirt on it. We have outside animals that were disrupted.
The worst part is when I called to discuss the issue with the office, the receptionist was so off putting and clearly annoyed at even getting a complaint. She stated, «sorry that’s not how we normally operate.» I asked her why they would even be in my yard in the first place and to please stay out of it. She said the job is done, and I informed her that no it was not they were back today as it was a large tree.
I understand having to clean up and appreciate that. However, I do not appreciate someone coming onto my property, opening locked gates without permission and causing damage to my personal property.
Oh the best part, I said I expect you to pay for my truck to be washed. She immediately yelled «no we are not liable on Page 2 of the contract it says that you are to inform your neighbors of the tree cutting.» Wow, ZERO RESPONSIBILITY…
Never RECOMMEND this company just based on their customer service!

Just used TTS again and happy as always. 100% recommend. We have used them for at least a dozen projects. This is a family run business with a hard working crew from behind the scenes to the actual tree trimming. Their knowledge of trees and how certain trees are to be trimmed are excellent. If hiring for a big project I highly recommend the property owner meet the tree team the day of the trim and specifically speak to the supervisor of the job and review everything again so everybody is on the same page. We have never had an issue. Also, beware of false reviews, we know somebody who purposely was being vindictive and wrote a bad review trying to deter business to this great family owned business. We are getting ready for our next project and will 100% use Travers.

We have used Travers annually for over 20 years. They are excellent. Today they took down our 75 foot canary island pine that was killed by bark beetles. Great aborists, great work crews, great clean up, great work. We have adjusted to the work date — they give you at least 2 days notice before the work will be done – so sometimes you have to wait especially during high season like now. It was worth the wait because the job was done right without damaging our newly remodeled backyard. The tree died after the remodeling. I am always happy to recommend them to my friends and always do so. Thank you Travers!

Travers Tree Service is great! I contracted with them to have a tree removed and do do some trimming around my property. The crew showed up on time and did a great job of cleaning up after. Nothing but positive things to say about this company. Great service for a great price. Highly recommended!!!

I don’t know where my friend’s house would be without Travers Tree Service. (Well, actually, it would be in the same place but it would just be destroyed!) When I lived in LA, my friend had a massive tree branch dangling over his tiny ranch house. I couldn’t believe it! He easily would have been gone if it weren’t for the professionals at Travers Tree Service.
These gentlemen set the bar high in service, and value. My friend doesn’t have a Unilocal account, but he wanted me to paraphrase a review he would have written. That said, this is also a review from a friend whose house (and possibly life) was saved from this great service. Thanks, Travers Tree Service!

Bad work, rude staff, not trustworthy. I could go on and on, but that would involve wasting more of my time with this company

Do not let these guys anywhere near your trees! They give you great lip service that they understand what you want done, then unleash their brutalizing crew with chain saws on your unsuspecting trees. I cried when I came home and saw it. They completely ignored our instructions although we were very specific. Completely denied that they hadn’t followed our instructions. Branches broken off. Stubs of branches cut out in the middle of nowhere. Why was that cut a good idea? Owner couldn’t find time to come out and see the damage on the weekend when we are home. So, obviously he didn’t have to answer for the crappy job.
If you love your trees, trim them yourself. Got a ladder?

Actually, they get a zero star. not sure if the receptionist is related to the owner but Mr Travers should know that she drove me away as a customer for good. I called to try to get someone to come out to give me an estimate, just an estimate! it’ll take about 4 weeks if I want to be present and it’ll take 2 weeks if I don’t need to be present and let them do an estimate on their own. Then she proceeded to tell me that there’s no way the job will start anytime between 4 – 6 weeks… so we’re looking at 2 months minimum. The biggest turn off is how rude the lady who answered the phone was!

This business is impossible to deal with. I have a tree that needs immediate treatment. I called them to set up an appointment and they would not give me one until I mailed them a check for $ 75.00 and they received it. They would not take a credit card over the phone or let me pay cash when the tree person arrived at my house.
I mailed them a check immediately. It is now three days later and they still have not called me to make an appointment. They should have received the check because their office is within 10 miles of my house. When I called them, they said that they did not have time to go to the post office, so they do not know if they received my check or not. They refused to set an appointment and said a manager would call me back today. No one called.
I am making an appointment with another tree service because this service will not give me an appointment despite the fact that I have paid them.

Worked closely with Travers on a remodel project that involved some old large trees. Great experience. Much appreciate everybody.

I am horrified by the way I was treated by Travers tree service. Let me start by saying this is the first negative review I have ever posted anywhere. so I NEVER complain. However we are a tight community in the South Bay and our houses are on top of each other so we have to be good neighbors. They were working on my neighbor’s trees today; cut them to the top of the fence. That’s fine. There were 5 branches sticking though my fence (there are holes in the top of the fence). I asked them to please finish the job and just cut the couple of branches poking through my fence as it looked so weird from my window with the trees cut down to the fence with some poking though: LIKE A REALLY BAD HAIRCUT. They refused and said MY NEIGHBORS COULD PAY additionally to remove the 5 branches that they were only paid to cut the top of the trees!!! I tried to explain to the girl on the phone and again. «YOU can ask your NEIGHBORS to PAY for those branches.» I will not ask my neighbors to pay for 5 branches… I can understand if it was a giant fir tree. I have just paid $ 1,250. myself for such a tree to be trimmed. BUT everyone involved at Travers was so rude… consider yourselves warned…

Not good. Why didn’t I read the overwhelmingly poor reviews of this place before trying to use them??? Dang it! Wasted a week!

I have been dealing with Travers since 1967 (47 years) when I moved to Manhattan Beach and had 18 pines trees. I am amazed how quickly they do the work and how neat they leave my place. They have trimmed trees for me and removed trees for me. Their last job was August, 2014. They are busy, because they are licensed and good. Jo Ann Rodda A Jo Ann Rodda Real Estate Co.

I can’t speak to the quality of Travers’ work, but I can attest to how poorly they treat those who have grievances. I was stopped at a red light a few months ago near a large tree that was being trimmed by Travers. Though I was stopped outside the coned-​off area which had been designated underneath the tree, a tree branch fell and hit the side of my car, visibly scratching and denting it. I pulled over, spoke with the foreman, and got the company’s contact information. After contacting Travers and sending photos, I was told «Travers will pay $ 30.00 — $ 40.00 towards a buff out of sap» and «The dent on your car was already there!» No one at the company took the time to speak with me or ask my side of the story before making these statements. In addition, my only communication with Travers was through the front office representative who answers the phones — I was never directly contacted by a manager, even after requesting to correspond with one. My insurance was able to negotiate a settlement of approximately half of the repair cost estimate. In my opinion, you’d be hard pressed to find a less professional company when it comes to handling disputes, so buyer beware if you are considering doing business with Travers.

I’m not sure how places like this stay in business. This place is completely incompetent: STAY AWAY.
Their tree trimmers came to our house this morning. What they left was a path of destruction in their wake. They trampled our roses, knocked over and stomped on our plants (yes, seriously), and were completely rude and disrespectful on top of that.
Now, not only do our trees look horrific (it looks as if they just chopped everything off randomly — this was not even close to «trimming»), but we need to hire a crew to clean up the destruction they caused. If you need more details, contact me… I will send you detailed before and after photos of their truly disgraceful job.

Just called Travers back to remove the stump of the Queen Palm plus a very difficult shefflera root. As usual they did an outstanding job at a very fair price — far less than I would have imagined. They cleaned up and were out of there within an hour. I am very impressed and highly recommend this company.

Avoid

I recently had Travers Tree Service trim and thin all my trees. They did an excellent job and were prompt and professional. My trees look amazing and they did a fantastic job of cleaning up all the debris when they were done.

Spent a good deal of money on these guys to have some trees removed and stumps ground down. Their scheduling is horrible as you never really knew if and when they were coming. Their customer service is laughable as they do not respond to emails or voicemails in a timely fashion. You are lucky if they call you back the same day. But… their prices are by far the cheapest than anyone around. I got quotes from 5 other landscapers and these guys were the cheapest by about 30%. They do a very good job of cleaning up every day and keep collateral damage down to a minimum. You just need to stay on top of them as they did miss a few spots the first time around and they had to return to finish the job. After clearing the area myself a bit more I noticed they missed a few spots but its not worth the hassle to get them back out. I can just do it myself.
It seems that most of their revenue come from city work as I see their trucks all over PVE trimming the public trees so maybe these smaller residential jobs are fillers for them. That explains the level of service I got.
Their service and scheduling I’d give them 0 stars if I could. For their prices it’s 5 stars. For their quality of work probably a 3.5 to 4. If the job isn’t urgent but you’re on a tight budget then I’d recommend these guys. But if you’re on a tight schedule and have a little bit of a loose budget I’d go elsewhere. I’d probably use these guys again but it is somewhat of a painful process.
