Pros: Master Si is great with kids, students learn to listen and memorize forms, sparring helps students learn to be tough and build self esteem, students learn respect Cons: students are primarily taught offensive/attack moves. Virtually no time is spent teaching students how to defend themselves. Uniforms are cheap. I washed my son’s uniform once and the logo faded immediately. The school is run more like a business. After signing up for 1 year, I was then told I needed to buy the $ 180 sparring gear in order for my son to reach the third belt. Belt tests are every other month and every student passes despite ability. Several Black Belts could clearly not defend themselves if needed. Master Si is not strict enough on technique and students’ age is accounted for earning the belt. Other: The total cost for 1 year for me was $ 1000 + $ 180 for sparring gear. I am fairly certain different people pay different amounts as they would not disclose the price up front. There are people who have kids in the class who do not look like they could afford this price and some have 2 kids in the class. I would not recommend this to someone else and I doubt I will continue past 1 year. The main reason I signed my son up was so he could learn to defend himself and have confidence that he could defend himself.
