I just moved to the area and had received a prescription before I moved that was giving me double vision. I was able to get a same day appointment and Dr. Chiao took extra time to make sure I received a prescription that was going to work for reading and far distance and a contact lens that would be most comfortable. Dr. Chiao is a very knowledgeable, professional and kind optometrist. Highly recommended!

I came in to have a pair of glasses repaired that were not purchased here. The gal that greeted me at the front was very warm and helpful. In less than 10 minutes she fixed my glasses free of charge! Good vibes from this business.

I’ve been going to Belmont Shore Optometric for years. Dr. Uyeno and Dr. Chiao are incredible. Dr. Chiao in particular is a pistol! She is sharp as a whip, she’s efficient and very knowledgeable. When she noticed that I’ve been «off» in one of my eye tests, she took the time to research the best ophthalmologist for me and kept me posted every step of the way. I have to say that BSO has the BEST selection of eyewear. The frames are so unusual, stylish and timeless that you want to buy them all as if they are accessories! You won’t find the frames anywhere else and I am constantly complimented on them wherever I go.

Dr. Chiao is the best! I am a nervous patient and she is kind and patient with me. Plus she is thorough, explains everything, and really cares about her patients. She is fantastic!

Very clean. Very genuinely friendly staff ! Calm environment and the Dr. is very patient. I received my contacts sooner than I expected. I would drive out the way from where I live to continue receiving my eye treatment here.

I came back to spend my money here after five years. Even though I moved to the East Coast, I came back to see Dr. Uyeno for my eye exam. Why? because he is the best eye doc I’ve ever worked with. This guy knows his stuff, & he has a great personality.
I brought my energetic child with me since there was no one to babysit. The staff welcomed her, and didn’t seem to mind when she was being a toddler… Another plus: They accepted my insurance plan.
Sherri out front is an expert at what she does. The glasses she recommended for me five years ago are still in excellent condition. Everyone gives me compliments when I wear them.
Although the frames and premium lenses are top dollar, it’s very much worth the extra money. Sherri consistently chooses the right style, color and look for me. She has an amazing eye for detail. Maybe too good? I ended up buying 3 pairs, with the premium lenses. Expensive? You bet. Worth it? Absolutely. Glasses are an investment. They should be fun, and should make you smile each time you put them on.
I never feel ripped off here (unlike other places), and regret having spent my money in mediocre practices with low quality frames & lenses. My only wish is that I could afford even more pairs.
I will gladly continue to take a five hour flight across the country to see Dr. Uyeno and his wonderful staff for my future eye exams. No one else can match the customer service, time and expertise of Belmont Shore Optometric.

I was recently in here for an examination with Dr. Chiao and loved my experience! The exam was quick and painless (luckily), and Dr. Chiao was professional and friendly. Sherri, who works in the front and has been in the business for 35yrs, is also a really awesome help should you need some new frames– which they have a good selection of! Thank you everyone for a great job!

I’ve been coming here for a few years and prior to that Lens Crafters, Costco, and other larger chains, and those were all good, but I like staying in my community, so I am very pleased with the service here. I feel the entire staff are extremely helpful and very pleasant when assisting me on finding the perfect frame choices for my face and style preferences. Sherri is a hoot and lots of fun, but yet very professional and knows her craft very well and understands how eyeglass frames work with various faces, keeping in mind ones style preferences. Yes, she may go for the expensive frames, but she also selects a variety of styles and price ranges that I may like. (I know it was mentioned on another review that she does not ask what the customer’s price range was, but that should be up to the customer to state what they can and cannot afford.)
And Chris (gosh I hope I got your name right this time), is so pleasant to work with and very gracious, as they all are, and oh so helpful! I went in for a cheaper pair of prescription sunglasses and asked him to have them as dark as they could get them, and if they could have them ready very quickly because I was going out of town. They did both, but unfortunately the glasses were so dark that I could barely see through them, which was all my fault because I did try on a pair that were very dark prior to ordering mine. I called them and asked if they could lighten them and they did (very quickly), and at no cost. No Cost Folks! To me that is GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE above and beyond their already great customer service.
Oh, and let me not forget the other stars of this story… Drs. Uyeno and Chiao. They are not only gracious and pleasant, but very thorough with their exam and explaining it all to me and the choices that would work best for me.
Oh, and the two little pooches too. Love seeing them!

Both Dr. Elaina Chiao and Sherri helped make my eye exam and frame picking experience fantastic! Dr. Chiao was friendly, easy to talk to, very knowledgeable and efficient. After my exam, I sat with Sherri as she asked me questions that helped her hand-​pick the frames that were just right for me. A great experience and highly recommend to all!

Five stars? This place deserves 20 stars. From the initial phone interaction with Chris to the post-​appointment exit with Sherri, Belmont Shore Optometric delivered excellent customer service and provided a truly exceptional experience. Dr. Elaina Chiao was fantastic; very helpful, knowledgeable and easy to talk to. I highly recommend this spot if you’re in need of an optometrist. You won’t be disappointed!

The dog ate my Gucci glasses.
I hissed and swatted him with my paw but I was still left without glasses.
I’ve come here for a few yrs and Dr Uyeno is great. The eye exam is fast and he’s a cat person! I have found my forever optometrist.
I found some new glasses that make me look like the cats meow and they are much less expensive than Guccis so if the dog eats them I can replace them without hurting my wallet.
At least the dumb dog has good taste.

This was my first visit to see Dr. Uyeno since moving into the neighborhood.
I was very impressed with his knowledge, efficiency and his ability to make me feel like I’ve been a patient of his for years. I did not feel he talked too fast at all. My appointment started right on time and seemed to conclude very quickly.
The afternoon I called around to multiple optometrists in the area to check prices for an eye exam. I was accommodated with an appointment a couple hours after I called in.
While I found the staff to be friendly and knowledgeable, the only reason I did not give a 5 star review is that I was a bit put off by the saleswoman that shopped eye glass frames with me. I felt she was a bit pushy and not as down to earth as I would have preferred. I think in sales, its very important to provide various price options or ask your customer what their budget is. Pushing the most expensive products and not complimenting your customer is a no no.

I visited Belmont Shore Optometric because I was able to get a same day appointment.
The optometrist is fine. He talks very fast but I was satisfied with his eye examination. My critical review is not about him (and the only reason I’m giving the place two stars is because he was quite decent).
My issue is with the sales personnel in front. One of the sales staff is very aggressive. How aggressive you ask? Well, I felt buying a pair of glasses from her was on par to the experience one suffers when a pushy salesperson is trying to sell you a timeshare.
Yup, that bad.
Over and over again I was pushed towards the most expensive pairs of glasses. Repeatedly encouraged to get more than one pair. She holds herself out as an expert on eyewear but I have my doubts now. I think she just sees dollar signs when she spots a potential sale.
I ended up getting two pairs. That was fine. I wanted to get good glasses and I relied upon what I assumed was her professional opinion in selecting the glasses.
But, my issues now are that everyone who has any knowledge of eyewear has told me subsequently that:
(1) I paid too much for my glasses,
(2) they were not properly fitted, and
(3) they are not the most appropriate style for me.
I learned my lesson of relying upon someone who claims they are a professional with the aim of assisting you yet in reality are little more than an aggressive salesperson trying to make the most money possible off of you.
The store does not accept refunds, they only issue store credit — so be forewarned. I really feel the whole thing was like a bad experience at one of those timeshare seminars — high pressured sales tactics and a subpar product.

I have been going to this place for eye exams every year for several years and it’s definitely my favorite. Dr. Chiao is friendly and very knowledgeable and everyone who works there is nice.
She was the only one who recommended hard contact lenses which improved my vision a lot, it made me wonder what other optometrists I have used in the past were thinking or doing.
Anyways I highly recommend this place !

I stopped by BSO yesterday to check out their frames. Both the actual optometrist and the woman who helped me by showing me some options on frames, were extremely nice. Their prices are fair (again cheaper than LC) but my only issue was that I wasn’t able to find frames I liked, they didn’t have really a good selection to pick from, which is why I am giving only 3 stars.
Although I had my eye exam done elsewhere, I have no doubt that they would be excellent for that as well, just based on the professionalism and promptness in answering my questions.
I was able to find street parking right in front, otherwise I’m not sure what other parking is offered. You might pass by this place if your not paying attention, as its small and nestled between other store fronts, so keep an eye out.

Love it here. You can tell that Dr. Uyeno is very passionate about his work and wants to teach his patients about their optical health. The woman who works at the front desk is also so amazing! I feel horrible for not knowing her name. But she is so sweet. I am horrible at picking out glasses for myself, and she helped me choose these cute, quirky, cat eye lenses that I would NEVER choose for myself but that I absolutely love now! I get so many compliments on them and people always tell me how they are perfect for my face.
I am due for my annual check up, and I only hope my experience next time is as good as the others!

Dr. Uyeno is awesome! He is clearly very knowledgeable and knows how to share information without sounding too wonky. He is easy to talk to and has great, practical advice. I found my new eye doctor!!!
