Specialties
The Student Recreation & Wellness Center specializes in fitness, wellness, health, and fun! We offer programs that range from Intrmaurals to Free Fitness Classes, and from Rock Wall Adventures to Aquatics. Our goal is to enhance the campus experience for students, faculty, staff and alumni, in hopes that our members learn something new about fitness and wellness, and something new about themselves.
History
Established in 2010.
Over the past 10 years, the University Student Union Board of Trustees and the Associated Students, Inc. (ASI) conducted a number of discussions, meetings, and focus groups, as well as an online survey of the CSULB student body, to ascertain the students’ interest in a Student Recreation and Wellness Center. In the Fall of 2005, ASI conducted an online survey that asked students about their recreational needs. About 8,000 CSULB students took the survey, or 23% of the student body. The results showed that 80% of the students said that they engaged in some type of recreation off campus, and that 54% were in support of building the SRWC. As a result of these actions, an educational campaign began and the ASI proposed the construction of a 126,500-square-foot facility in a student fee referendum, in February 2007. Overwhelmingly, CSULB students voted for the SRWC: 74.7% to 25.2%.
