History
Established in 1962.
The Long Beach Kiwanis Club championed an initiative to create an organization dedicated to preserving the material history of Long Beach in 1961. By 1962 Community leaders representing many sectors and organizations form the Historical Society of Long Beach (HSLB). After moving our gallery and research center for many years, in 2007, we finally moved to our current home in the Bixby Knolls neighborhood of Long Beach. The organization has a four member staff, a board of directors and many volunteers. The HSLB exists through a combination of grants, sales of its books, gift items and photographic reproductions, memberships, and contributions from the public. The HSLB can grow and provide a more significant role in our community with the critical assistance of our volunteers.
