Hof’s Hut is no longer in business here. It was replaced by a Lucille’s BBQ.

Breakfast was awesome until a roach came out of nowhere and tried to sit at the table with us. What was even more disturbing was that the waitor acted as if this was an everyday occurrence. BOOOOOO. No thank you.

Dear Unilocalers,
As a LB native (St. Mary’s Hospital) I spent many happy meals with my family, especially my beloved Naples dwelling grandparents, chewing down hot cakes, chocolate malts and grilled cheese sandwiches.
I know these places are never as good as they seemed when we were kids, but I still enjoyed going to Hof’s, especially this location.
As Roger Ebert observed in his review of Woody Allen’s classic film about radio in 1940’s New York City: «What actually happens isn’t nearly as important as how we remember it.»
Elegy written in a vacant lot:
«Their coffee tolls the knell of parting day,
The lowing herd of diners wind slowly o’er the lea,
The Hofman to Lucille’s plods his weary way,
And leaves the memories of PCH-​2^nd Hof’s to darkness and to me.
Now fades the glittering neon Hof’s Hut sign on the site,
And all the Long Beach sea air a solemn stillness holds,
Save where the VW Beatles wheeled droning flight,
And drowsy stainless steel creamer tinklings lull the distant folds;

Slightly better food than a Denny’s. Same sort’a menu items, same price point. Loud, popular, crowded.
This location to be torn down March 2013.

They’re going to tear the old place down in about two weeks. You should get a slice of old Long Beach while it’s still there.
Hof’s Hut has been here ever since I can remember. I’m told that they are going to rebuild it as a Lucille’s after the dust settles. I’ve been to Lucille’s on 2^nd. St. and it just aint the same. Sometimes I like to go into the bar and watch the old farts.
I’m creeping up way too fast on Old Fartum so I gotta learn how to go over the edge with a little dignity and grace. I really don’t know why, I’ve avoided it so far. But they’ve had a good run and I hope the new place has a few vestiges of the old the old Hof’s.
Bye bye old pal.

I don’t want to write a «goodbye» review, I really hope this is just a «see you in a little bit»
I’m a Long Beach native, I grew up coming here.
This Hof’s Hut has THE BEST customer service of all the Hof’s I’ve dined at.
You are greeted with a smile.
If you’re a regular, you’re greeted by name and a «how are you today?»
Other Hof’s don’t do this.
My food has always been consistent here.
I’ve grown quite fond of being an «old couple» with my boyfriend during our breakfast dates here.
I teared up when KCAL9/​CBS2 interviewed us on customer appreciation day about our history here.
It finally sunk in that this lease business really wasn’t going to let up.
Please don’t go, or turn into a Lucille’s (we have enough of those).
I like my comfy breakfast spot where I can enjoy being «old.»

After 50 years it’s time to say goodbye to this particular Hof’s Hut. It’s too bad too, this is a nice location and has been a fixture in the area for a half century. Say goodbye to the Albertsons market and the bank on the corner too. Apparently the land owners have some grandiose money making plan which involves demolishing everything and building something entirely different. It sucks, but these are the gears of capitalism and greed turning here people.

I’ve been to this Hof’s a number of times over the years. This time pops and I came here with a friend for breakfast to take advantage of a buy 1 — get 1 birthday coupon she got in the mail.
SERVICE: Was good! We were seated at an outdoor table pretty quickly, drink orders, then food orders taken. Food came out in a decent amount of time.
FOOD: Pops and I ordered breakfast and the birthday girl had fish & chips. I ordered eggs benedict Florentine with hash browns. The benedict was VERY tasty and nearly perfect! The only problem is the eggs might as well been peeled hard boiled, because they were SO overcooked. When our server came back by I made her aware of the problem. She offered to have it all made again, but told her «No, just make another egg». In a few minutes she brought me a properly poached egg and more hollandaise sauce (I was going to ask for more, but she beat me to it, NICE!) and I finished my breakfast.
OVERALL: We had a nice meal in a really decent restaurant. It just really SUCKS that after 50 years, this location is being FORCED to close their doors.
We will miss you Hof’s… we will miss you.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO… I just heard today this place will be closing! Please say it ain’t so. There are too many memories tied to this place and it would be a damn shame.

Craig don’t close this Hofs… this has been a mainstay for many of us LBC locals for years. Many good memories at this Hofs Hut. When you go to a Hof’s you know what you are going to get, good comfort food.
We dont need some 99 cent store to come into the location. Hope you can work out something with the property owners.
I know your Dad does not want to see another Hof’s Hut close.

This review is for their PIES only!
My family decided to go with a potluck for thanksgiving. Given the fact that I can’t even boil water, I decide to bring dessert. Or rather… I decide to BUY dessert. It’s Thanksgiving and basically you just GOTTA have pie, right? So I start hunting around for good local pie places. But given the fact that I’m a huge procrastinator, this desperate hunt is occurring the day before Thanksgiving. By then, places like Marie Callendar’s were turning me away! Boo! So what’s a girl to do?
I’m wracking my brain for options, and I seem to vaguely recall eating Hof’s Hut pies when I was really young. I remember them being good. But I probably ate boogers back then too, so I was a bit doubtful as to whether my memory could be trusted. Desperate and out of options, I give Hof’s Hut a call. And Hallelujah! They say they’re still taking pre-​orders the day before T-​day. And not only that, they gave me a 20% discount!
I place an order for a boysenberry and chocolate cream pie. Head there bright and early the next day and had no issues picking up my pies. Brought them to the potluck and they were a HUGE hit! Really delicious, the crust was especially A-​mazing! I seriously won’t hesitate to come back here if I need to get pies in the future…
And I’m dumping Marie what’s-her-name.

I guess if you have endless money to blow, and you don’t care about the quality of your food, Hof’s Hut is the place for you.
Their «thin cut» zucchini fries were the thickness of large carrots, hard and raw inside.
One of our friends ordered the baked potato soup, and it was pretty much a bowl of salt mush.
We also ordered the cinnamon roll french toast, which came out looking like a giant plate of scramble eggs, because they don’t know how to make proper french toast custard. Every slice of the french toast was covered in rubbery, BURNT scrambled eggs. I scraped some of it off to try and taste the toast itself but it was pretty hopeless.
The ONLY thing that was decent, was the pot pie that my friend ordered. Too bad it was his lunch though. so I couldn’t eat the whole thing, lol.
I suggest driving farther down PCH and going to another diner…

Good service, reasonable prices, decent food, open late. Pretty much hits all the spots for a diner when you have the munchies. Only thing, be sure you’re hungry because the food can be filling! Or maybe I’m just not young as I used to be and can’t scarf a massive greasy/​salty meal at 12:30 am like i used to could.
Next time I may just get some pie. They looked really really good (and less filling)

Yum I came in here for a brunch break when I took my sister to her dorm at Cal State Long Beach. It’s a couple miles away from campus so we decided to try it out. We walked in and the host told us to wait a couple minutes so they could prepare a table for us. A couple minutes went buy and before we knew it, we were sat. Our server was very sweet and accommodating. Never did I have to ask her for a refill, because she was on it.
I ordered the pancake sandwich, which comes with four strips of bacon, two pancakes (maybe three?) and eggs. It was a typical American breakfast and I thoroughly enjoyed every bite of it. Also, it kept me full all day! Overall, I’d come back. I would say this place is like a classier IHOP.

5 stars all the way. First off the onion rings are the best I’ve ever had. My chicken salad sandwich was good not great but good. The service was very good and everyone at our table liked their food. Again, 5 stars all the way, I will be back and will try something else.

You can get two fried eggs in tons of places. You can get hash browns, too. But when the menu says Country Potatoes, I’m anticipating large, even rustic cut, chunks of potatoes fried up with onion and bell peppers to be on my breakfast plate. You could garnish it with even some minced parsley and I wouldn’t mind. So, when my plate was first served with hash browns, and I generally hate hash browns, I was upset. So I tell the waitress, «I ordered Country Potatoes.» She takes my plate of food away and I wait. I minute or so later, I get hash browns again, this time interspersed with onion and bell pepper. And I’m not happy. Maybe they ran out, I don’t know. But what I do know is Hof’s Hut on the Sunday morning I went right after going to the farmer’s market, I was disappointed in those potatoes.
But what’s cool was the hot tea service. They give you a big coffee mug to make your tea in and it’s a full service version with lemon wedges and honey. Nice.

This review is strictly for the back lounge. Someone said «Regal Beagle» and I completely agree. It’s hidden down the hallway passed the bathrooms. It kind of has an old speakeasy feel as it isn’t really advertised.
The inside is very 70’s with the big horseshoe booths, dim lighting and a bartender that can pour a drink. No windows, so you don’t have to feel guilty drinking during the day. You can come in for a drink or for dinner. Or you can snack on the stale complimentary popcorn.
The crowd is also from the 1970’s as the average age of the patrons is 65 and up. But that’s what makes this place so great. And they know how to have a good time.
It’s also walking distance to AMC so you can stop by for a martini just before your movie.

Hof’s Hut is the only place that has my absolute FAVORITE — CHOCOLATE STRAWBERRY TRIFLE CAKE.
Hence the 5 stars. I haven’t found any other bakery that makes it just as delicious or similar?! I’m devouring a slice as I’m writing this :) My family & I used to dine at the one in Tustin years ago til they closed down. Food wasn’t bad at all. Now I hit up LB just for the bakery section. So this review is just on the sweets!
My two cents — this cake is made to perfection & the taste has been consistent. (I want their recipe!!!) I’ve been eating it for years — whenever i get the chance too of course. The strawberries are fresh & not too sour, the taste & the amount of whipped cream is just right, the chocolate cake & frosting is not overly thick or super sweet. MmMmm… Prices on the slices has gone up over the years :(but it definitely hasn’t stopped me from buying!
Other fresh baked goods i’ve had the pleasure to enjoy are: Bananaberry pie, banana cream pie & strawberry pie. All fresh & yummiee: D

This update is based upon my niece’s comments about Hof’s. She declared, «I really like this restaurant, Aunty.» She was thrilled she could order baby back ribs off the kids’ menu and that there were make your own ice cream sundaes for kids. The sundae came with a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream, and small containers of sprinkles, hot fudge and whipped cream, a gummy worm and a maraschino cherry. It was perfect for her and she was excited she got to make it herself. Glad to find a place that has some great things for kids :)

.., Finally!!! Hof’s Hut was 1 place I’ve been eyeballing for quite some time now. Like a little boy curious to finally see what was under that skirt, I imagined it to be a bratwurst heaven.
The name, lettering font, & outside décor led me to believe that this establishment was of European descent, Oktoberfest-​ish, steins clanking spilling Belgian beer over long wooden tables & benches. Sad to say, I was off., way off.
Making a left into this place going against traffic along PCH was a bit tricky for there was some construction going on in their parking lot. Nothing major though.
Our trio this evening included our roommate Jessica, my gf Diane, & myself. As soon as you walk in, you are greeted by the dessert counter w/​a glass display of delicious pies, cupcakes, cake popsicles, & strawberry goodness.
Took just a few minutes before we were seated. It was a busy Friday w/​everyone chowing down on their food. We all take a look at our menus & I was heartbroken to see that there was no bratwurst. Although everything on the menu looked & smelled promising, we were still excited to see what this place was all about.
Their menu ranges from buffalo chicken sliders, ribs, rotisserie chicken, pasta, seafood, salads, meatloaf, steaks, gourmet burgers, plenty of appetizers, & much much more.
It took a while for our server to finally meet & greet us. There were a handful of them walking around, but only half were on the floor pouring waters & whatnot?
Our server finally comes so we start off w/​soups. Diane had their vegetable soup, while Jessica & I had their clam chowder. I tried some of Diane’s vegetable soup & it was pretty good. I loved my clam chowder though & would get it again. Their chicken tortilla soup looked awesome as we seen it on its way to another table. Looked like it had a mountain of tortilla chips nestled on top of it.
For our entrees, the ladies shared an order of buffalo wings & a fried chicken salad that came w/​a honey mustard dressing. While I had their French dip sandwich w/​au jus & coleslaw. The food didn’t take too long after we finished our soups.
I loved my French dip! The thin slices of roast beef were delicious, full of flavor. Along w/​the au jus to dip in, I was set. Coleslaw was great as well. I tried some of the wings Jessica & Diane had & they were good. Tasted like any other wings you can get anywhere else, so they didn’t stand out as much, but they were still good none the less.
The fried chicken salad however was under dressed. Diane had to ask for another order of honey mustard dressing to compensate. After that the salad was delicious.
We finished our stay w/​a slice of strawberry cheesecake. It was awesome! The crust was soft yet firm, strawberries were sinfully good, cheese was excellent & they definately had their own take on it. I highly recommend getting a slice for dessert.
Between the girls sharing a salad & wings, my French dip, & the cheesecake. Our tab came out to $ 49. A little more than average, slow service, but I enjoyed it & will be back again. The portions looked generous besides the dishes we had gotten. Check it out!

I haven’t been to this location in over 10 years but, my Friend received a coupon for her birthday; buy one entrée and get a second one free for the same price or more!
My order was the large Cobb salad, side of Blue Cheese dressing and corn bread with butter:
The salad had all of the typical Cobb Salad fixings, bacon bits, chopped egg, avocado, crumpled Blue Cheese, bits of chicken, tomatoes (diced.WTH?) and shredded Iceberg lettuce.
IMO, if this was a large for $ 9.99 I’m sure the small for $ 8.99 was Jenny Craig sized!
Yes the Shore House Café gives you a larger salad with soup and salad as does The Long Beach Café, both for a dollar or two more but, for this deal I settled and it was tasty; probably best it was on the smaller side since I had dinner plans for Erin V’s B-​Day at 7:30 PM.
Also, since I virtually eliminated pastries, cakes, cookies etc. from my diet 7 months ago (svelte never looked & felt better 35 pounds lost), I still remember how delish their pies were.
Oh and my friend (former land lady of my store front was happy as a clam-​they even gave her a free muffin).
