Learn A Language With Amanda primarily provides private tutoring and group tutoring sessions in ESL (English for Speakers of other Languages) and Brazilian Portuguese. Amanda tailors each session to her students’ individual needs and takes into account her students’ unique language-​learning goals. She specializes in using innovative methods in her teaching to keep students engaged and active throughout the session. Her goal is to help students enjoy the process of learning their target language. She also specializes in TOEFL test preparation.

Tutoring sessions can be held in person around the Long Beach area, or online, via Skype. Amanda welcomes and has experience teaching students of all ages and levels.

Learn A Language With Amanda also provides translation services from English to Brazilian Portuguese (and vice versa), as well as English text editing services.

History

Established in 2014.

Amanda was born to Brazilian parents in Curitiba, one of Brazil’s largest cities. Her family moved to California in the United States, where she was raised from the young age of 2. Because of these unique circumstances Amanda learned English and Portuguese simultaneously and acquired native fluency and mastery in both languages.

Amanda gained several years of experience in translating and interpreting, but her heart was always in teaching. So she became an ESL teacher at an online school for international students, where her love of languages and teaching grew even more. In the summer of 2014, she completed her course in Applied Neuroscience with the Canadian Institute of English where she received her Advanced Certificates in TESOL and in Teaching Portuguese. With a fresh understanding of teaching using truly innovative methods based on how the brain naturally wants to learn, Amanda was inspired to start her own tutoring business — Learn A Language With Amanda.
