Locs Myth at Natural Essence

I just moved to the area and this shop is everything and just what I needed. I was able to get a last minute appointment the same day and it was worth the drive. I walked out with my hair freshly twisted and I love it. I found myself a new spot and I’m excited. I definitely recommend this shop to anyone looking for maintenance. Oh and the best part is the prices are very reasonable and your hair will look and smell great.

A natural woman’s hair fairy!!! I’ve been going to Danyette for almost 2 years and there is absolutely nothing I can say bad about her. This isn’t just a hairstylist or her place of business but it’s an experience. She uses great products, invests in hair care, instruction for care, and education.
Free wifi, great convo, and either movies of substance or great entertainment. Btw I’m the one who put her on #teamscandal and #teamgreysanatomy if she ever gets current with the episodes.

I have no doubt that Danyette is a talented women when it comes to locs. Her hair is beautiful, and its clear that she has regular customers. I met Danyette in a store by complimenting her hair. She gave me her card. I called to make a consultation appointment. I wanted to learn what loc methods she offers and in general if she would be a good choice for me.
Well, my answer is NO. It may be a cultural thing, as in the African American community, beauty salons seem to come with thier own set of rules. Timing has long been known to be a problem in black salons.
But when I am going to shell out over 100 $ for any kind of service, I want my appointment time to be honored. That said, my situation went like this:
My appointment time was for 1:00pm on a Saturday. I arrived 5 minutes early to find Danyette washing someones hair and another lady was under the hair dryer.
She greeted me and apologized for the fact that it would be 30 minutes till I could be seen. I wasn’t happy about that, but I was willing to wait. But it gets worse from here.
During my 45 minute wait– Danyette decided to put entertainment on the TV for us to watch. She chose YOUTUBE VIDEOS OF BLACK GIRLS FIGHTING! You know the kind of «World Star Hip Hop» ratchet stuff with black girls pulling each others weaves out.
As I sat there reading my Ebony magazine I was thinking «Really tho?» For those of you who may be wondering why I did not say anything, well its not my establishment and the other two patrons seemed to be enjoying the show. I then knew that this was not the place for me. I looked down at my phone to see it was 1:41 and she was still interlocking the gentlemans hair whom she was washing when I got there. I knew it would be at least 2:-2:15 before I would be seen. I got up and left.
For me that is completely unacceptable. Maybe this is the norm or the standard in the AA hair salon community, but not for me. She never looked at me to check in and see if I maybe wanted to come back/​make a new appointment time. This leads me to believe that being late is just the Black Salon way to doing things. But even if she was on time for me, as soon as she put that horrible crap on TV THEN I would have requested that she play something else, or I certainly would have been out of that chair before you could say «put it on Youtube.»
Perhaps I am guilty of making the assumption that just because this lady has long beautiful dreads and she has a «natural» hair shop that she would be all hippe/​spiritual/​conscious etc.- I thank her for reminding that hair is just hair– and no matter what ON your head its what IN your head that counts! Even if that means watching black-​on-​black violence in a «Natural Essence» environment. I surely didn’t see that one coming!
Maybe I was the only one this happened to, or maybe its the norm and other people don’t mind it.
Either way, if you are a person who likes courtesy, punctuality and a POSITIVE ENVIROMENT for your dread/​loc needs, All I have to say is make sure you confirm with her ahead of time that you want your time respected and if she can’t deliver then don’t make an appointment. Buyer Beware.

I made an appointment to get my locs colored and twisted and I must say I was completely satisfied. Danyette was welcoming and very prompt. My appointment was for one o’clock and she started on my hair right at one. She did an awesome job and my hair looks, feels and smells great. All the services are reasonably priced. I really cannot say enough great things about this salon.

5 Stars is not enough. I do not just like my hair I looooooooooooove it. I have received numerous compliments on my hair. I have attempted to loc my hair numerous times, this is the first time in a while that I loved my hair. Interlocing is the way to go for me. I had such a wonderful experience and will be a customer for a very very long time

oh where do i start!!! ms. danyette is so amazing! i know her from school we are taking cosmetology classes together and she was telluing me one day in class that she could get all my extractions out of my forehgead (black heads) i was so shocked i have been having an everlasting issue with black heads since i can remember. i went into hwer shop mid day and it was so welcoming. warm, smoothing music, nice scented candles. it was really relaxing. she was very professional during the service, her products are fabulous. i was so realaxed that at the end of my facial i think she had to wake me up. well a few days later i did notice that my face was clear. she also sales the products uses so if you are interested you can purchase them i believe at a discounted price. i havent been back yet, but im due for anoither visit. i high recomend her service.

after she re-​twisted my Locs wow talk about fast. I normally do my own Locs but i was lazy.
I’m“m going back and see what kind of Loc hair style she can do
