I love this bar! Rodrick and Shawn are a few of the BEST bartenders I’m Long Beach! Their pour is great! Always upbeat! When I walk in I always smile! keep up the great work !

I and a friend were sitting at a table and watched the whole thing unfold and this establishment promotes racism. ROB the baretender who is a white guy with a beard holds a lot of negative energy and hatred towards anyone outside his own race! He was extremely rude and nasty and the owner steped in to defend his actions which were wrong and plus the owner is a mean old drunk who drinks and drives home drunk everyday. Very negative and evil would never step into this place again.

Warning! Don’t go here unless you want to feel dirty and unwelcomed! The place is gross and disgusting. A complete dump. I don’t think they do a good job washing their glassware. And the bartenders are rude (not in the fun novelty restaurant sorta way). Seriously, I think the only people who give this place high ratings are their regulars. I went here to grab a quick drink since I love dive bars but this place was an utter disappointment. The bar counter was sticky, the place smells like a ripe locker room, and the glass my drink came in was filthy! Worst part? I witnessed them being racist to a group of hispanic people! You should avoid this place at all costs.

Negative vibe… Hell on Earth… bartender Rob, thin with a dirty beard. First he pretended not to see me, then he started arguing with a female customer. Out of the blue an old man with long orthopedic socks on started «yelling» I’m the owner!!! What is going on… Then some local lush asked my friend, «why are you standing by the door?»
As I said” Negative vibe” don’t waste your money here. Sad but true.

What a filthy DIVE !!! Extremely DRUNK, RUDE & RASCIST Bartender & Owner. Don’t waste your time or money here!

First off, I love dive bars and appreciate sarcastic asshole bartenders because I have a sense of humor but this was blatant racism I had experienced. My family and I were celebrating my graduation with some great burgers from MVP’s next door and wanted beers so we ate at O’ Connels. Everything was fine and normal but I think as the bartender was getting more wasted his true feelings came out. He called us «those Mexicans asking for Mexican beers» like that was a crime. He reluctantly poured a tequila shot using the bottom of a dirty glass to shake it and when we asked for a lime he grabbed it in his hand and rolled it around and crushed it before placing it on the bar for us. So much hate was in this beardo’s eyes as he was talking about us to other customers he even used the middle finger when he stroked his hair looking our way. I asked the MVP workers who are great, if anything like this has ever happened and they said no but they will call their manager. I guess he called O’Connell’s because the manager drunkenly stood up and asked if there was a problem. He was there the whole time?! He said «I’ve been here 49 years, there’s always two sides to the story». I tried explaining what had happened and he started to fix a lightbulb and never make eye contact and pretty much walk away after saying again «I’ve been here 49 years». This was not okay, I can not describe the disgust that we all felt from their hate. To them lowering our music, disdain for our presence and treating us like second class citzens. Never again, and please don’t come here. Racist businesses have no business being in the city I love, Long Beach. 49 years too long.

Beware of this shit hole establishment! First time here and our last time. My friends and I couldn’t even finish our drinks because we were so pissed because we never experienced service like this! The bartender was rude, drunk, dirty and racist! We ordered 3 shots of Patron but there was only enough for one and so we ordered just one and a coupe of beers. So we get the shot of Patron and the beers and he goes back to get a lime and as he is giving the lime to my friend with his bare hands, he is literally rubbing his grimy fingers all over it. We just looked at each other like WTF is this a joke? And he thought I was gonna tip him? Yea I got a tip for you… go fuck yourself!!!

I love this place. The bartenders may come off as rude but they’re just «no nonsense.» They’re great, kind hearted people if you act like normal people. This is one of the oldest bars in LB. If you’re looking for a lounge, go somewhere else. OConnels for the win.

One of my girls lives really close by and this is her go to spot… she’s taken me here a few times and I actually really enjoyed myself. It’s a dive bar, so it’s not too crazy. If you’re here when Sean’s working, you’re in good hands.

It is old, dark and mysterious! Hahahahha… Ok not so mysterious. It is a great spot, with cheap drinks and great bartenders. Plenty of TVs so you can watch your sports team, and an MVPs literally next door (Connected to the bar). They have pool tables, a shuffle board (Say What!), and an awesome juke box. The bathrooms are a bit run down, but it is a friggen dive bar.
Bring your CASH MONEY and plop on down on an old bar stool and prepare to hop on the wasted magic carpet ride. Enjoy!

Oconnels reputation precedes it. Always. From 6 am until you’re wasted. You know what you’re getting. If you’re a good time– you’ll have a good time. If you’re an uptight bore, go elsewhere. SHUFFLEBOARD, pool and MVP Cajun fries. Every other year is plenty for me.

This place is a dump. It’s horrible. I’ve been going off and on for 25 years.
I love it here because it’s at it’s best when no one is there or it’s just depressing as hell in the day.
When it’s popular, filled with idiot hipsters, or bacteria filled beards I want to shoot myself.
Three things I love about it.
The pool tables are old.
The glasses are dirty.
And I can do whatever the fuck I want.

One of the best bar dives in Long Beach! Sean is the best bartender and the people are locals that have fun and just enjoy a beer with friends. Love this bar!

Local dive bar that offers NFL sunday ticket, cheap happy hour drinks and is adjacent to MVP Grill. There’s always a special on bloody mary’s and irish whiskey (Jameson). The patrons are generally nice (specifically on Sunday) O’Connells is definitely a fun place to go if you just want a drink and watch football.

All about a great dive bar but a clean bathroom is a must and their’s is disgusting (women’s). Great prices on drinks and Direct TV for football. Just need to clean the bathroom. Seriously.

Just moved to LB and looking for a fun sports bar to watch football. So I get it… my team played the Rams… who were originally from LA. But the people there were rude and pretentious, very snotty. It was obvious my Wilson and the Lynch jersey I threw on my friend were not welcome there. My friend was also told to leave when she said she thought she jinxed the game. I have never felt so unwanted in my life.

It’s a dive bar. It looks like one, smells like one, has no beer selection, and is full of alcoholics. So…3 stars because it knows what it is and you know just by looking at it from the outside.

Super dive! Everyone’s cool if you’re cool, standard bar etiquette…

Go somewhere with good people. Didn’t go here and wasn’t planning to but parked behind it. Well I didn’t know the lot was even behind a business. Larger old man yells at me, you can’t park here! there is zero sign but okay. I was oh okay, I walk back to my car looking at him confused, in a rude tone he says, «why are you looking at me like that!» «Oh there’s just not a sign» he just went off! I let him know we are leaving there is no issue just want to let you know you should have a sign to in force it. I’m literally at the door of my car to move it. He keeps yelling get the hell out it’s my private lot! I didn’t raise my voice once and wasn’t planning on staying.
I work in a place where we have to sometimes ask people to leave but you don’t need to attack people who aren’t even arguing it. Sorry for asking why I didn’t know there was a business! So I don’t think one should support a man like him. Because of the interaction with someone so harassing, rude, ignorant, jerk! We left the area causing the café to lose a costumer. Crazy huh
