Pussy & Pooch Pethouse and Pawbar

This place is great! Prices are reasonable a little more pricier but the location is nice and the inside is so well organized plus staff is great making a buck or two worth it. I’m a foster mom and was saying good bye to the pups I was fostering so I wanted to buy some cupcakes for them. The lady helped me and when I paid she even gave me some bags of sample food for my pups and my dog who wasn’t there! They gave me the cutest bag!

I’ve stopped by this location a couple of times when I’m visiting town, and most recently, I took my little dog Burney there to be groomed. He is a rare breed, a Coton de Tulear, and his fur can be quite a challenge to comb out and groom. Add to this the fact that Burney had been romping around at Rosie’s Dog park the day before, and essentially he was a dirty, tangled little mess. The groomer we saw, Leana (sp?), did an absolutely wonderful job grooming him the way I wanted, working out all the little tangles and mats that had formed and keeping him from being cut too short. He looked and smelled great! I’m so lucky to have had her groom my little dog, and if we’re back in town again, I’ll be sure to take him back!
From time to time I’ve purchased items there– some of the more boutique-​y items can be over priced, but their food and treats are mostly well priced, and they do offer a good selection, especially for the size of the store. This has been a great find in this area!

This Long Beach store is small, and they do sell a few quality foods/​treats. BUT! Here’s why I will NEVER shop at Pussy & Pooch:
(1) The products they sell are totally overpriced. You can simply go on the Internet and compare prices, and you will be able to find a website that sells the same bag of food, treat, or accessory at a MUCH lower price plus free shipping!
(2) Events are poorly organized. And the woman (Natasha) who plans them is rude, clueless when it comes to animals in general. There is no set price when is comes to renting their space, so BEWARE… You will be ripped off if you’re too naïve!
(3) Horrible customer service. The «associates» here are pretty fake, and they know little to nothing about animal care, training, and nutrition. They’re mostly aspiring actors and actresses who work here on the side to make ends meet. Don’t let them fool you with a «customized» diet plan for your little pooch. They’re not vets, and they’re certainly far from being chemists and pet nutritionists!
(4) On weekends, Pussy & Pooch invites local animal rescue organizations to showcase adoptable dogs and cats. This is nothing but «retail rescue» where groups put out donation jars begging for money while literally selling dogs and cats to anyone who writes them an adoption check. No screening, no home checks… I have witnessed MANY animals being returned by their impulsive adopters who never properly thought through their adoption decision in the first place. UGH! What good is it to rescue an animal only to «sell» him/​her to a mediocre home? This is NOT rescue. And the ONLY reason Pussy & Pooch invites these groups to their stores is to generate foot traffic (with live animals) and subsequently profits… SHADY!

We have a pretty amazing dog and I truly believe he deserves the best in life! He’s smart, talented and oh so charismatic! Anything that keeps him happy and healthy makes me happy!
We stopped in at the Pussy & Pooch in the Belmont Shores neighborhood of Long Beach to get our boy a new toy while visiting the area. This shop has a diverse range of products from the simple to the high end! I picked out a gem «heart» squeak toy! It’s now his new favorite for playtime… made of a good quality rubber and squeaker for a dog that works hard and plays hard!
A couple unique items I have never seen before were faux bois dog bowls and an automatic «I-​Fetch» ball machine
Go pick up something for your fur babe… and a woof, woof there…

AVOID THIS STORE. AVOID THIS STORE. This is a store for the bourgeoise. I am very upset about my most recent visit and my visit prior to this past one. I have 2 large dogs, one of them is old and is having hip problems, when I was dropping my dogs off I very politely made it apparent to the groomer that his back hips are in bad shape and in order to make him not be in pain to please not make him stand for extended periods of time. She assured me that she would try her best to not put too much strain on my dogs legs. It seemed genuine so I thanked her and left… As usual a few hours later I got a call that my dogs were ready to be picked up. I showed up and waited a few minutes for them to bring my dogs out. I got a little curious as to what was taking so long and finally I see a different lady that I had never spoken to nor seen, the lady I had spoken to earlier in the day was nowhere to be seen. Anyways this lady was literally pulling/​dragging my dog by his leash out of the back room. As his back legs were simply sitting on the ground. He was not walking she was dragging him across the slick concrete. I quickly made my way over to my dog. To realize that he was in severe pain. He could not stand up or walk and his nose was raw and bloody as if someone scrubbed it with a tooth brush. His tail was tucked between his legs and he would not even look at me. I have had this dog for 13 years and NEVER, NOT ONCE have I ever seen my poor dog so traumatized or in this much pain. I was obviously upset and the lady quickly handed me the leash and made her way back to the back room with out saying a word to me. I looked around the store and the ladies behind the counter were just glaring at me. I made my way to the counter as my dog just sat there in the back hallway. I asked where the lady that I had spoken to earlier in the day was and the ladies told me that her shift had ended a few hours ago. I’ll admit. At this point I was getting pretty angry, I was upset because if your a pet owner you know that there is nothing worse than seeing your dog in pain. The cashier quickly rang me up for the 200 dollar grooming session … Haha totally not worth 200! anyways it was clear that She knew I was upset. After I payed she mentioned to me that I forgot to add gratuity. I turned and pointed at my dog and asked her if she thinks that service like this deserves a tip. She evaded my question and rolled her eyes at me as if I was some sort of asshole for being upset with the service I had received. She then asked me if I would like to just add gratuity to my card I said sure. And graciously tipped regardless of the current state of my poor dog. All while this was happening the other cashier was just standing there and listening and staying out of the interaction. Now It was time for me to leave. Well How was I supposed to leave with a 100 pound dog in so much pain that he can’t walk. Yea it got a little awkward. I was trying to pick up his hind legs to help him walk. But he would quickly just fall down. All this was happening while the cashiers just watching and mingling with one another hanging out on their iPhones. After about 10 minutes of trying to get my pup in a better mood I cut my losses. I went and put my other dog in the car and came right back to get him. Right when I walked back in the other cashier who was just a bystander handed me a bunch of over priced expensive treats for no charge AS IF THAT JUSTIFIES ANYTHING?! No it did not. I had to carry my dog to the car and then when I got home I had to carry my dog into the house and to his bed. My dog has not gotten up in 2 days and I completely and confidently blame pussy and pooch. My dog was capable of getting himself in and out of the car that same morning, he was capable of going out for 30 – 40 minute walks on a daily basis, and even in the morning before his grooming appointment I took him on a 30 minute walk where he had no problems supporting his own weight and after my visit to pussy and pooch he cannot move. Trust me he wants to move he tries to move he literally just cannot move. If you love your dog like I do and if you care about how people treat your dog then don’t bring your dog here. I don’t know what they did to my poor dog in that back room but I can tell you for certain that it has really affected my dogs health and I am very upset and scared that my dog will not walk again and may have to be put down. If you live in long beach. Go to wags to whiskers off of bellflower they are genuine and I usually go here but they didn’t have any opening for a week so I was forced to go to pussy and pooch because it’s shedding season and shepherds shed like no tomorrow! I always wondered why pussy and pooch always has same day openings for grooming and now I know why.

Came in on a Saturday night with Bruce, my friend’s pup (babysat). Two men employees were behind the counter speaking amongst themselves, no «hello», no nothing. We browsed through the store waiting for someone to at least ask if we needed help finding anything, but nothing. Usually when I come here with my doggies, they’re spoiled with a bunch of complimentary treats and belly rubs. Unfortunately not tonight!
Anyway, I love the merchandise they offer. They have cute doggie outfits, great-​quality leashes, water bowls, beds, treats/​food, toys, etc. They also have a bathhouse and a «Pawbar» for dogs where they can walk right up and have a delicious, organic meal prepared right in front of them for a pretty penny.
I bought Brucey cute little treats that were 3 for $ 5 to the right of the Pawbar and he devoured them! Sad thing though, he ended up vomiting/​having diarrhea the next morning :/​not entirely sure if it were the cookie treats causing the problem, but that was the last thing he ate!
This store is a bit overpriced… but the sacrifices we make for our beloved pups = priceless! :P
Treat your pup with some doggy beer or ice cream! :)

This past Saturday, we walked by the Broadway store in Long Beach during the Beach Cities event. Everyone was nice, friendly and helpful. They also loved my dog (who wouldn’t?). Because of the event they were giving dog «tattoos» so my girl got a heart on her butt! What a clever idea! She’s a 55lb pit and looked adorable. We got many compliments throughout the day. Thanks Pussy and Pooch for making it fun for us!

Very happy here, Have been coming here for about 3 years. Great service, my fur babies very happy so.
Only thing I don’t like is the parking but that’s not their fault, just part of doing business in this area.

Walked in here with my friends and their dog, Bruce, on a Saturday night. It was busy everywhere else on 2^nd Street except this pet shop. From the sidewalk, we can already make out that the two associates working the evening were just chatting & had nothing better to do. The moment we walked in, the two CONTINUED to chat amongst themselves as if no guests walked in. Ignored. We browsed around freely and after five minutes, one of them decides to approach us. Right away, we wished they were more attentive as we were trying to be in & out of there quickly. I guess it’s a chill night.
My friends decided on some dog treats after all. They’re not bad, priced at 3 for $ 5. I’d suggest to pick the biggest treats! Ha! They’re fairly cheap & delicate looking. Oh pets, they’re so spoiled! Don’t worry, my dogs are spoiled too! TOO SPOILED!
I’ve been here twice now & service has always been average. Don’t expect much. I’d still go back for their products. They’re high quality & dependable.

Nice place but zero help from the 2 sales associates who would rather talk about what to order from jamba juice. Came in for a light up collar or jewel for my dog. They had nothing available at all.

They are CONSISTENTLY really nice and helpful here. It is definitely a boutique and pricey however the clothes are actually very well priced as they are top quality. We visit the mountains quite a bit and their jackets are well made and work!
The only reason for 4 instead of 5 stars is the ‘bar’ portion of the store. The food looks very appealing to people but my dog (who is always ready to eat) is just never interested in the free sweat potato chips or the really cute cookies that I have purchased. The price of the cookies actually made me sad. Maybe it is hard to make healthy, cute, and tasty food so they are focusing on healthy and cute.
So great for Service, Clothes, and some boutique items. Dogs beds are really nice but you get a pretty significant savings for same beds from online (they didn’t have size I needed and I was surprised when looking for same bed about savings).

My dog Rosie and I wandered in her on a Sunday morning. I took my dog to Long Beach for her birthday. The staff was knowledgeable and friendly and gave her a free paw bowl of duck with chia seeds and pumpkin sauce — she devoured it.

My dog Moley is turning 10 in a couple days. I wanted to get her bowser dog beer for her party (I love my dog!) because I thought it would be awesome! I saw this place was the closest to me that sold it.
I got there and Erica approached me and asked if I needed help. I let her know what I was looking for and why. She informed me that unfortunately their shipment never came in and offered to put some aside for me when it did arrive. She filled out the order form and got my number.
Erica even put together a birthday sample bag and gave me a voucher for a free of meal for the pawbar, for when I come in to pick up the beer!
I misplaced the voucher that Erica gave me, so when she called me to tell me the bowser beer had arrived. I asked her if I could still get a complimentary meal for Moley because I lost the voucher. She said no problem and she would write it on my order form because she wouldn’t be there that night.
I have been getting pretty crappy customer service from other businesses lately, but this place definitely knows how to treat their customers! I can’t wait to go back!

I’m rating it for what it is– a pet boutique, not a store. With that mindset, you might not get startled by the prices but to be fair, all of their products are top of the line. It’s so hard to find the dog food brand I use (the big chains don’t carry it) so I started coming here to get it. My dog LOVES it here, probably cause they spoil him rotten. They’re always helpful. The pawbar is so cute. I got ice cream for my dog on a hot day and they served him at the pawbar. They seem just as happy to see my dog as he is to see them. You don’t get that kind of attention from the big places. They also have tons of social events. It’s a really nice neighborhood place to take your dog!

My dog starts pulling as soon as he sees we are near the store. Everyone that works there seems to be an animal lover, because they not only don’t mind when my boxer mix jumps up in excitement, they encourage it! :) They have a unique selection of toys, food, etc, and great selection of bones and antlers.
We’ve had him groomed there a few times, and he always comes back smelling wonderful and silky smooth! The groomers are very nice and seem to be really great with my dog, which is important because he is soooo high energy!

Go here for pet food and for all bath and grooming for Neanderthal best friend Cooper. It set up like bootyque pet store, but sprisingly it is still affordable, only litle more cost than petsmark/​petco.
Sometimes when take on weekend for groom, pussy pooch have mimosa for customer! This very cool :) recomint you use Mel for to groom, she always do good job.
Pussy pooch also have doggy bar, where you can order dog meal and drink (dog beer!) And even birthday cake for dog. Plan to bring cooper here for birthday next year if he good boy (he is good boy, promise).

I will be honest. I thought that this was an adult place given the name. It wouldn’t surprise me if it was considering that a few doors down there is an actual adult toy place. This is for the dog and pooch. I don’t have a dog anymore but I felt like looking at the dog treats and some of the locally made items.

Okay, this is a great place.
The dogs were comfortable and happy… And the service was exceptional — people that seemed to give a crap.
The fifth star is for the return: we brought back a couple of harnesses that didn’t work for the dogs… No receipt but no grief.
Will return!

I just moved to Long Beach and this boutique is walking distance from my house.
I took my doggie in to get a nail grind and they were very friendly and quick. My dog was so excited she followed them right to the back of the shop.
I heard they have doggie meet ups with cocktails and snacks for pet parents and treats for the furry friends, can’t wait to go to one!

Really cute store. I was greeted instantly by a friendly sales person.

Also, I’m not a fan of sales people eyeballing me the whole time that I’m browsing. It’s annoying. I actually leave much quicker. And did.
