The Sky Room specializes in fine New American Cuisine with a romantic, intimate setting. Dining with a view, this art deco supper club is located on the 15th floor with panoramic ocean and city views. Our menu consists of fresh seafood and all natural grass fed meats. We offer craft cocktails, sommelier service, a award wining wine list, live music, Happy Hour — Sunday-​Friday, a dance floor, and a rooftop lounge. Enjoy our live entertainment Thursday — Saturday evenings, Friday and Saturday are big band nights. Visit the Cielo Rooftop bar, openThursday-​Sunday for breathtaking views, homemade tacos, craft cocktails, and other specials. Aside from a romantic evening we also create elegant weddings, rehearsal dinners, social celebrations, corporate dinners/​meetings or any other special occasions. Our catering events are top notch, we will customize any menu you desire.

History

Established in 1926.

The Historic Breakers was the first West Coast Hilton (8th in the world). The Sky Room has been around for over 75 years offering an elegant supper club experience. This historic venue has seen many Hollywood socialites and is best know for housing Elizabeth Taylor during her marriage to Hilton. Today this iconic restaurant is an institution in Long Beach boasting history, romance, and an era where you dressed up for a night on the town. After graduating from the University of Arizona with a BA in Economics I started my culinary adventure at The Sky Room. After six months we took over another restaurant in Santa Barbara and I moved out there to get immersed in the wine scene. I ran a fine dining restaurant, wine bar, and wine retail shop. During that time I enrolled in the International Sommelier Guild and became a certified Sommelier. I learned from some of the best and during my stay in Santa Barbara I assisted with a Grand Award wine list (3,000+ different wine labels from all over the world) which I have brought with me to The Sky Room upon my return in 2009. I also had the pleasure of working with a talented Chef that came from Melise (2 Michelin Stars). My experience in wine country, the kitchen, and on the restaurant floor have shaped me and pushed me to dive into a new universe of flavors, creativity and a pure passion for creating something beautiful for others to enjoy.

So my husband and I went there last night for an early Valentine’s Day dinner. It started off nice with a good salad and scallops… the dinner was shocking though. The Chilean sea bass and filet mignon were hard on the outside, burned actually, tough and chewy. We sent them back for fresh ones (at $ 119 per person, it better be fresh!) and the second plates were exactly the same, even slightly cold.
That’s when I realized the food was prepared earlier in the day and being reheated. We called over the manager and asked for a refund and he did oblige, but a bummer we could have gone somewhere else to eat.
To make matters worse, we called to try to cancel out reservations earlier that day because I was sick and they said we could not cancel and all reservations were prepaid due to Valentine’s Day dinner.
Won’t be going there again.

This place felt very old world steak house. Take an elevator ride up to the top floor where you’ll find the old school peeps dancing to some jazz.
The views are pretty and over look the long beach harbor.
The Food: I had the scallops which were cooked well and paired nicely with a glass of wine. The steak he had came with a mushroom sauce and they also made a few wine sauce on the side when we asked. His favorite thing was the bread basket from La Brea Bakery.
The server was great and handled the late arrives well. I would be back if in the area.

The only bad thing was the valet. At $ 7 dollars. If your short on cash you can pay the valet bill at the bar in the restaurant. Other than that everything about this place is great. We can here on New Year’s Day. Make sure to have reservations and ask for a window seat.
There is also a cool bar upstairs of the restaurant. Bring a coat it can get chilly up there and also windy.

I have been wanting to visit The Sky Room for quite some time now! When I saw that they were going to be a part of dineLA once again this year, I jumped on making a reservation.
Parking:
There’s a lot behind the building where you can park for $ 10. There’s also a parking structure on the next block over.
Ambiance:
The main entrance to the building for The Sky Room is located on Locust Ave. Go up the stairs with the red carpet and walk down the hall until you reach the elevators. An elevator attendant will escort you and take you up to the restaurant! Glass windows all around offer a beautiful panoramic view of Long Beach! They have different live bands that perform on certain nights (check their online calendar to see who’s playing!) and dancing.
Service:
Our server checked on us often… maybe a little too often… but he was friendly and courteous! Another server brought us complimentary bread and refilled our drinks. He was also attentive and very nice.
Food:
— Kanpachi Sashimi — Japanese Yellowtail in some sort of soy dressing with sprouts and topped with a dollop of creamy avocado. A little overkill on the soy sauce, but the yellowtail was super fresh!
— Hudson Valley Duck Gnocchi — Two tender, rich pieces of duck on top of gnocchi. The gnocchi seemed to be pan fried, and it was in a parmesan broth. It was AMAZING! No complaints here except I wish it was a bigger portion!
— Wild Diver Scallop Pasta — Homemade black fettuccine, clams, roasted garlic carrot cream sauce. The scallops had a perfect crust and were super buttery! The cream sauce had a really nice flavor and paired well with the black fettuccine. I enjoyed this dish!
— Durham Ranch Bison Short Rib — Winter squash, scallop potatoes, Stilton Mousse, tomato confit, and au jus. The short rib barely needed a knife to be cut! It was tender and could be easily shredded. I was really impressed with how much I liked the squash on top of scallop potatoes! The potatoes were crispy, and the sweetness from the squash created a nice combination of textures and flavors.
Dessert:
— Homemade Tiramisu — Mascarpone, Lord Windsor Coffee, Lady Finger. It was creamy, and the raspberry sauce on the plate was a nice addition of sweetness and tartness.
— Homemade Chocolate Cake, Chocolate Ganache, Vanilla Ice Cream — SUPER chocolately! The ganache was quite rich and a little bitter, but by my third bite in, it definitely grew on me!

This is about the restaurant. Second time I’ve been here. First time was good. this time was rude service from the start. I took my friend here and show her a good time with band and music.
We walked in scanned the room and walked back and requested a table by the music band… The girl hostess was on her phone. Didn’t say, «Hi» front said pick any table
Dan upstairs rectified this giving us free drinks, but thz downstairs dining service concierge had left a bad taste from the good memories I’ve had before this night.

Dine LA happens every year. It’s a great time to try those restaurants that you may not normally and a chance for those restaurants to showcase their ability. The Sky Room rolled a great sounding menu for the occasion. And it did not disappoint. The first course was brilliant and light (well, one was. I had duck gnocchi, not light but oh my wow!). The main was perfectly cooked (I had the bison short rib which was melt in your mouth good, the wife had scallops and mussels which still had that brine taste and we loved that… all too often you forget what both mussels and scallops taste like, you just remember the sauce). For dessert, Napoleon pastry and chocolate cake.
What was most impressive though, not the live band and the couples dancing, but the care the staff and management put into ambience. Our server William had impeccable timing. He kept the flow at all the tables just right. If there was a problem, you never know.
Walking in to the building is chandeliers and old Long Beach pictures. The elevator man was very friendly and knowledgeable. The building and décor is old Hollywood in Long Beach. It’s supposedly the penthouse floor used by Elizabeth Taylor. I can see that.
I’m not sure when I’ll be back, but I will be. Truly the gem of Dine LA this time. Fantastic place with fantastic staff and fantastic food.

I wanted to briefly update this review and up to five stars as I was just here for dineLA 2016 which will be ending on Sunday, 1÷31÷16, so I would advise you to make a reservation in the next five days and take advantage of the $ 49 fixed price meal that will be gone after Sunday, if you would like to see what the Sky Room is all about. Make sure you ask for the special dineLA menu when being seated. Not only is it a fabulous 3-​course meal, but the portions are full size, not some chintzy half version of what they would normally give you. There are also amazing add-​ons for just crazy prices like Fanny Bay Oysters for $ 8 and the most incredible ginormous portion of truffle fries on the planet for $ 6. Ambiance, the beautiful panoramic views of Long Beach from this historical landmark and stellar services are what make this a five-​star place, IMO. Marty, our server, who has worked here for 16 years, has been my server when dining here several times. He is fun, attentive, courteous, informative. Just all around fantastic. I have bookmarked him so I can be sat in his service area when I visit.

We were here at the sky room as part of our dineLA explore! We didn’t know what to expect but figure we will have a good tasting of dineLA menu! Everything was excellent– food, ambiance, view, service!!! We will definitely come back!

I came here for the views of the city!
I made reservations here for my girlfriend and I’s 1st month together. When asked what we were celebrating we told them it was one year lol. We loved the décor and views as well as the ambiance of the restaurant.
(Cons)
I was not impressed with the service. Everything took forever. We did not eat till about an hour after we arrived. Not to mention we didn’t recurve our drinks till somebody else besides our waiter noticed we had been there for a while.
(Pros)
All in all I will still recommend this restaurant for the experience. Food was really good and the service was good just took longer than I’d like. Especially after a long day at work I wanted to EAT! And enjoy a drink with my Girlfriend.

Cute, old, 1950s hotel. They have kept many of the same old decorations and motifs from the original hotel.
When you walk in, as you walk down the corridor to the elevator, there are lots of old 1950s pictures and paintings on the wall that look they have been hanging there forever… the elevator, get this, has an attendant! How cute right? He was very nice and knowledgeable in asking questions about the hotel’s history.
Once you get to the top floor, you have two options:
If you go to the left, you can have a drink at the restaurant/​bar. Inside the restaurant room, there is a small round bar amidst a restaurant of tables that had a better view of the city. A piano and band were they playing music.
If you go right, there’s a small tight staircase to take you upstairs another flight to Cielo, the rooftop bar. It’s not a huge space but there are bar stools that line the outside wall, theres’s random DJ music that played an array of music mosh-​posted together from Dr. Dre to Country to Rock. there was even a taco lady there last time I went!
TIP to the ladies: that staircase is tight, and small. so careful with wearing those super high heels. you have been warned!
Overall, it’s a very cute spot! Highly recommended for a date night.

making a reservation is a bit strange. tried to make one for 12 and the hostess said I had to talk to the event coordinator to make a reservation that big. I said okay and she transferred me. no one picked up so I left a message.
the coordinator called back about half an hour or so later and she told me for a party that size, there was a $ 25 a person deposit. that made me kind of scared because what if only 10 people show up? would she charge me a $ 50 fee? so I told her I had to make sure everyone was going and would call her back.
a couple hours later I called back, same thing. hostess transferred me and I had to leave a message. we talked for a bit and then she told me that it wasn’t a $ 25 charge per person. it meant that if we didn’t show up AT ALL, she would charge $ 25 a person. but if 10 showed, there would be no charge because at least some showed up. so I wish that was made more clear so I didn’t have to get a hold of everyone again, wait for their text to confirm they were still going, and then call the coordinator back again.
I made a reservation around christmas and the coordinator seem like they were pretty booked but could squeeze us in, so that was nice. but when I came, the restaurant was pretty empty. weird.
when we arrived, the valet said it was $XX so we said well just park it ourselves. and he was like okay $ 7. I thought it was kind of a rip but we were already kind of late so we paid.
we ordered and I noticed that it took a really long time for the food to come out. it would of made sense if the restaurant was packed but it wasn’t. so me and my friends went to the bar in the next room and ordered rounds of shots.

— seafood tower: the oysters, shrimp, clams were good. the tuna was not good at all. ask for something else instead!
— bone in ribeye: I split it with my friend and I had told the server that and asked if he could split the steak but he said something, I forgot, but couldn’t split the steak. I’ve never been to an expensive steakhouse and not been able to do so. the steak was a little bit bland and was just okay. I expected it to be more tender and flavorful. only thing good was the mashed potatoes.
overall, this place was ok. probably wouldn’t come back. view was nice though

Great ambiance and beautiful view! The food was delicious but nothing out of this world to die for. The crowd was a bit «older» when I went but that didn’t stop them from taking over the dance floor. Great vibes and a fun night! This would be a good place to bring a date :)

I normally don’t put up reviews unless it was bad.
First, the hostess with the attitude. She has a B$&@& face. When I came I told her we had reservations and she didn’t even greet us. No merry Christmas or how’s it going, just a sour face. Too bad I didn’t get her name, she was wearing glasses and looked like she was riding a high horse. She looked angry basically.
Second we came for Christmas dinner and was told it was a buffet when I sat down. Ok… No where on open table or online was that made clear.
If I canceled I was forced to pay 50 $ for two people. So I stayed anyways.
When we went to get food there was hardly anything, hardly any meat, my gf said there wasn’t any salmon really. The salads looked empty, there was like literally 10 selections of things and it was called a buffet haha. The food wasn’t gross but it wasn’t good at all. Their prime rib was always out and supposedly they had duck coming but I was sick of the experience so I didn’t even wait for that. Best thing was probably their desert.
Anyways, I was hoping for a good experience and good views of LB but was forced to eat a buffet that cost 60 $ per person. To add insult they even put an automatic 20% gratuity for two people. At the end of the day I paid, left and had to go eat again since I didn’t eat much lol.
This was my anniversary /​Christmas dinner and you can bet it was ruined.
If you want to come here id say avoid the holiday dinners. Maybe you’ll have a better experience with the regular menu.

Making reservations for this establishment was a bit, strange. When I called, It rang for quite sometime before someone picked up only to put me on hold to speak to the event coordinator… For another 10 minutes I sat patiently waiting with at least decent music playing while waiting haha. Once i spoke to the event coordinator, we found out that for a party of 12, we had to leave a credit card information in the case of the event that we do not show up for our reservations — they would charge $ 25/​person. She at first did not explained this clearly because originally she told us that she would charger $ 25 per person that doesn’t show up so be sure all 12 show up. I had to call back to clarify and please becareful of what they say … They almost made us not want to come.
Now, upon arrival we dropped off our car for valet. We went up an elevator that limits only up to 6 people per elevator trip. The restaurant was very DEAD and COLD… I mean the AC must have been on blast because i could feel my hair breezes !!! After being seated and a few wine tastings, we ordered both red and white bottles of wine to accompany our meals. My boyfriend and I ordered two seafood towers and the oysters were delicious but the tuna was not. It was a little sticky (eek, no good). It was really dark in this dining area so it was difficult to take photos. I typically wouldnt take photos in a dim dinner environment because i feel it is quite rude and inappropriate to do so… But i snuck a few. We also ordered some more appetizers (truffle fries, beef carpaccio, foie gras).
Our main entrees took such a long time to come out. So long that half of our group went to have two-​three rounds of drinks at the bar. And the vegetables/​sides tasted like the had showered in butter for days. It was so heavy that i need more and more water. Except i had my water refilled maybe once, after our meals were done. I was so disappointed with my entrée and i had looked so forward to my black cod!
I usually order coffee and dessert afterwards but due to such a long dinner time, we just wanted to close out and walk around. I would not come back to this establishment. They didn’t make my visit smooth. Even after leaving to pick up the car at valet. They guy just gave the key to us without saying anything so we stood there wondering why he didn’t pull the car up and gave us the key without saying anything? Did we tip and pay you to babysit our car? So was this actually self parking we paid for?

The fam bam came here to celebrate my brother’s nuptials this past weekend and we literally ate and drank our faces off. Drum roll please…
#3 Raw Bar — Pretty good deal for what you get. Oysters and lobster meat were fresh and nicely chilled and the shrimp were colossal. However, the Ahi tuna was just meh and I didn’t like that the clams were cooked and then chilled. Maybe it’s the East Coast expectation that clams in a raw bar platter actually be served raw? 3⁄5
Crab cakes — Not the very best I’ve tried but pretty darn good and I would order again. 4⁄5
Shrimp Ajillo and Foie Gras — Didn’t try personally but it received great marks.
Truffle fries — So good but really, anything truffle sings to me, especially when you douse it on my fries! 5⁄5
Alaskan Black Cod — Mild, sweet and flaked delicately off my fork. Highly recommended if you are looking for lighter fare without compromising on the taste. 5⁄5
The others mentioned that the prime rib was also excellent and perfectly cooked.
Overall, it was a great experience but a bit pricey for what you actually get. Service was friendly, knowledgeable and attentive and as others have mentioned, they have great 360 views of the city from the dining room albeit a bit dirty and in need of a little window washing. Décor is a bit dated as well and reminds me of a 1970s supper club dining room.

This place is perfect for a special occasion. After you enter you will be greeted by the elevator man who will guide you up to the restaurant. Unfortunately, the night we went it was really foggy in LB so our only view was fog but it was still nice nonetheless! Our waitress was outstanding taking great care of us and every dish we had from appetizer to entrée was simply amazing. I definitely do recommend!

My husband and I were seeking a bit of a «fancy» date in Long Beach and everywhere I searched online seemed to point to The Sky Room as a higher end place to have dinner. As soon as we walked into the building we said. ohhhhhh…
The building has a Queen Mary old school vibe. The elevator even has an attendant. Ghostly. Old-​timey. Once you get up to the restaurant — the décor is old — faded pictures are tacked upon the walls. The carpet and everything else could use a little updating. I mean, certainly, the vintage look is supposed to be charming — but it did seem a little musty. Nevertheless we had a wonderful experience.
I had requested a city view — which was cool — even though we went there super early (5:30) for dinner. We will have to go back when it’s dark for that view. We had to wait a bit to be seated — while the staff was in a meeting in the dining area. We stood in the bar area and chatted, remarking on the slovenly looking dudes who walked in and sat at the bar. «Those guys aren’t business casual,» said my husband. For a place with a dress code — some people surely didn’t seem to be following any kind of code.
Once we were seated, our drink orders were taken and our server introduced himself. He was awesome and really added to our experience. He remarked on my necklace and we chatted with him about binge-​watching Supernatural. Very likable and capable. Always makes the dining experience better when you have a bond with your server.
We ended up ordering the Caprese salad and the Lobster Mac and Cheese to start and I ordered the King Salmon well done and my husband got the Cod in a orange sauce. The Caprese was good but the Lobster Mac and Cheese was just ok. However, the King Salmon was completely delicious. It came on a pile of mushrooms, tomatoes, and haricot verts in a light sauce. SO GOOD. Such a fan.
Next time we want to try the Truffle Pomme Frittes instead of the lobster mac.
Oh, and I must not forget the baguette they serve. A server comes around with an enormous basket of freshly sliced baguettes and serves three slices at a time. BEST DAY OF MY LIFE. I GOT TWO SERVINGS.
Basically — I loved the server, I loved the salmon, and the experience was really fun. Will go back sometime — perhaps later in the evening when the city lights are bright and there’s live music.

I was meeting a close friend for dinner and we were looking for a unique /​relaxed venue with a view. The Sky Room was highly rated so we chose to give it a try.
There are pros and cons — as follows:
Pros:
1. The view. It is truly amazing, however make sure you reserve a window seat and one that is orientated towards the water — no the building next door, as that’s what we received.
2. The building. It is historically beautiful and the architecture is romanesque meets functional.
3. Valet parking is available in a private lot and it’s complimentary.
4. The hospitality service was 4 star.
Cons:
1. The elevator staff. Hit or miss. They escort you upon entrance and exit to ensure you do not wander around the hotel /​residences.
2. The old carpet and décor. Could be updated to reflect the upscale dining /​drink prices.
3. The Black Cod dish I ordered had 3 bones that I found. One of which I found stuck to the inside of my mouth. (please refer to photographs).
4. For the price of the dining experience I would have expected a more elegant atmosphere and more of a 5 star 5 diamond level of service.
