Every Sunday I look forward to the long Beach farmer market where I can get my favorite coffee from Wide Eyes Open Palms. They make the best coffee around town. They let you taste before you buy. They know their coffee brewing methods and their beans. Also, you can get a homemade pastry with your morning coffee while you are shopping at the farmer market.

I don’t usually Unilocal,but We-​Op is the best! I love how creative they are with their food and drinks. Sometimes I go to events that they will be popping up in just for them. I don’t drink coffee, but their tea is so great. I appreciate how ethical they are with the sourcing of their food, coffee and tea. Service is ALWAYS very friendly and Kat and Angie always go above and beyond to make us feel welcome. It’s a lot of work, but they are great at making sure everything they do is intentional. I recommend it both as an ethical business, and as just a yummy place to eat and drink. You are also welcome to bring your own mug and plate if being green is your lifestyle. They are accommodating to this and make an effort to be green as well!

I go to the market on Tuesdays just for these folks, but… they also have a pop-​up coffee shop at Sura Korean BBQ & Tofu House on 6^th and Atlantic. My favorite coffee and brunch, everything is delicious! They are so friendly and knowledgeable on everything they create. I can’t wait to see what they have this weekend.

Every week the women of Wide Eyes Open Palms delight my belly and fill my heart.
I wish I could remember what first drew me to the We-​Op tent at the Sunday Alamitos Bay Farmers Market many months ago. It was probably the dark chocolate and sea salt cookies: crisp at the edges and perfectly soft in the center with a dusting of crunchy salt crystals. The next week I bought two. And two more the next week. Each time there were other tempting choices, but I couldn’t believe there was a better option than the cookies.
One day there weren’t any more dark chocolate and sea salt cookies. While I considered other choices (savory cheddar cheese and herb biscuit? Harvest cookie studded with dried currants and apricots?) I noticed a row of large glass jars, each filled with a colorful elixir. I think I tried the dreamcatcher, an alluring magenta mix made from bright hibiscus and lavender.
Soon it became a habit I looked forward to on Sundays to stop by We-Op’s tent and choose known favorites or new and intriguing creations to enjoy while I browsed the market. Life got even better when they began to serve breakfast.
Kat, the artist behind We-Op’s food, and Angie, the genius behind the beverages, take their inspiration from the market and from the glorious colors in their heads. If it’s summer, you may be lucky enough to enjoy a stone fruit caprese toast layered with thick slices of nectarine and mozzarella. Now that it’s finally getting colder, you can look forward to spiced apple cider perfumed by cardamom pods.
Breakfasts are typically a choice of three toasts. Somehow, from within the tent, Kat conjures up dishes that are simple yet stunning. A humble fried egg on toast becomes a proper meal when served next to a salad of baby arugula, slivers of watermelon radish, and pine nuts. There might be a toast layered with almond butter and homemade ginger and stone fruit jam. Passers-​by at the market will gaze at these plates and ask where they came from and if they taste as good as they look. (They do!)
Your breakfast is going to take some time because Kat is handcrafting it. She’s already figured out that pomegranate arils or bitter radicchio will balance your dish’s flavors and colors. She won’t let that breakfast get to you without a squeeze of lemon, a squirt of herbed oil, or a dash of salt to finish it. Kat might even have to duck out and run to the other end of the market for more dill or parsley, because that’s how We-​Op rolls: they source their ingredients from the other vendors at the market.
So you’re going to wait for your breakfast. You’ll wait and you’ll like it, because there is music playing and because it smells like butter and coffee and other good things at We-​Op.
The coffee is where Angie comes in. Her specialties are cold-​brewed coffee and thoughtfully curated tisanes. I’m a very novice coffee drinker, but the passion with which Angie prepares each beverage is infectious. She knows the character of the roasters and of the beans and the benefits of cold-​brewing, and she has carefully prepared the components of each drink, from the coffee to the simple syrups that flavor the lattes. Even better, Angie shares her expertise in an approachable way that makes me want to know more. I’m now easing into coffee under her guidance.
For those days when I’m craving something else, Angie has plenty of other suggestions. For a scratchy throat, a steaming concoction of lemon, honey, and bracing apple cider vinegar strewn with sprigs of thyme, all sourced from the market. To soothe restlessness, a mystical tisane of hay and calming herbs.
Kat and Angie do what they can to give back to the earth that provides their gorgeous ingredients. They conserve water, compost waste, and provide biodegradable cups, plates, and utensils. Do one better, though, and bring your own cup and place setting to the market to save some expenses for these lovely women while you save the planet.
Through their Instagram, I have stalked Kat and Angie to many of their collaborations elsewhere in Long Beach: Farm Lot 59, MADE in Long Beach, Rainbow Juices, and most lately to their current pop-​up at Sura. My favorite place to enjoy We-​Op, though, remains the Sunday market at Alamitos Bay. AMAZING DESTINATION COFFEE SHOP! Come check out their new Pop-​Up at 621 Atlantic Ave. They are serving the BEST of the best, highest quality artisan coffee, pastries, and offer a decadent breakfast. They are here every Thursday, Friday and Saturday 7am-​2pm. The atmosphere is perfect for digital nomads looking for a HIGH VIBE spot to focus and get work done or to meet a good friend. Owners, Angie + Kat, are the most genuine souls that bring a real talent to Long Beach. So happy they received a residency at Sura Korean BBQ (6^th/​Atlantic). I love how their passion shines through everything they produce. Must have their cold brew and sea salt cookies! If you’re lucky enough to come around lunch, you can have korean tacos and a fantastic tisane iced tea! You can visit them at Sura Thur-​Sat. 7am-​2pm.

I went to the Bixby Park Farmers Market yesterday for the first time with the sole intent of getting my favorite healthy nut butter, but then I stumbled upon this place. What drew me in was the Rosemary Latte they had. It sounded interesting so I had to try it. I also sampled their cold brew coffee which was super delicious. Better than Stumptown!
There was also a variety of teas which all smelled and sounded amazing but I picked up the Ceremony tea which was made from yerba mate and I can’t wait to try it. They even threw in a reusable tea bag! yay!
On top of that, they had an assortment of baked goods which looked amazing! (wish i wasn’t so full at the time or else i would have got something) All the baked good are made fresh daily by Kat and among the assortment was some vegan options which is always a score!
And Kat was so helpful and super nice… just bursting with positive energy! She got me hooked! I’ll be going to this market more often because of these two!

Seriously legit coffee. I just returned from the farmers market and am regretting not having ordered TWO rosemary lattes just so I can enjoy another one right now. Most Sundays I wake up and my main motivation to leave the house is to go pick up a coffee from these amazingly talented women. They really know their stuff and use high quality ingredients in such creative combinations it will blow your mind. I hope someday they have a b&m so I don’t have to wait till the farmers market to seek them out. I wish them all the success and prosperity they deserve!

I love to order things that people are excited about. When I go to WEOP at the farmers market I ask what’s good and they never steer me wrong. Ang has introduced me to some really good coffee and tea drinks (I’m not even into tea so much but theirs is good) and Kat is baking in heaven I think. I can’t wait to check it out on breakfast day!

Amazing tea and coffee (and I don’t even like coffee). Came to farmer’s market on a whim a few weeks ago and stumbled upon this pop-​up cart… what a treat! I was early greeted and offered a tea sample. I was hooked… the tea I most loved was a concoction of lavender and other deliciousness that I cannot recall. I ordered one and continued shopping. Before I left, I was back for another and took one for the road, as well. I then asked if I could purchase the tea in large quantities. They were so kind and set up a pickup for the following farmer’s market. Now I have tea to enjoy when they are not open. I have also tried the wildflower honey sparkling latte which is a unique treat as well as the rosemary latte. The baked goods are divine and there are always vegan and gluten-​free offerings. I can’t wait until they are able to open a brick and mortar as their creative drinks put locations like Starbucks to shame. True artists that deserve your business! Go get some of their delicious brews on Tuesday at the farmer’s market on cherry between 2^nd and Broadway and on Sunday’s at the Marina in LB.

Hands down the best breakfast in Long Beach! The flavor combinations are thoughtful and the ingredients fresh. It’s ‘slow food’, which means that it is lovingly crafted, and it shows in how tasty the food is and how beautifully the dishes are presented. I’ve had the opportunity to try the creamy polenta (with eggs, greens, and manchego) and the savory toast (with burrata and slivered almonds). Both were absolutely delicious. Service is genuinely warm and friendly! If you’re not into the typical (boring & heavy) breakfast options usually available but are still looking for something hearty and home made (but with a twist!) WEOP is for you!

Wow — these folks make AMAZING food and coffee. My partner and I had the luck/​pleasure of having them make us brunch and do a coffee workshop at a friend’s house. We got to taste coffee based on different brewing methods with Angie while eating a fantastic brunch prepared by Kat. Angie knows her coffee and was great at instructing us on how to get the best out of our brew. Kat is a master with food and pastries, making the single best chocolate chip cookie and scone I have ever tasted. These folks are the real deal and whenever we are in the Long Beach area, we try to grab a pastry and some coffee from them at the farmer’s market. I can’t wait until they have a brick and mortar!

Angie took the time to help me learn to appreciate the intricacies in coffee and Katt has helped me expand my pallet and redefined what is consider good food. Locally and conscious sourced good. Everything about Kat and Angie is AWESOME! They are knowledgable about their products and conscious in the way they source them. They are very professional and add that personal touch to whatever they are serving you — you will leave feeling satiated and like you are part of the family.

I’m my opinion, We-​Op is one of those rare & very special grassroots efforts that is able to maintain its unique energy week after week. Kat & Angie are so enthusiastically passionate & knowledgeable about what they do that it truly inspires me. As a result, I’ve learned more about what good coffee should taste like, begun supporting local roasters, been more inspired to cook with fresh & seasonal foods from the market, & have a greater sense of community. What these two women are accomplishing is so wonderfully refreshing. I am certain that one day they will have their own storefront, & I will be proud to reminisce on the days when they were starting out just a year ago from their own personal backyard. I am happy to support this quality local business that makes me & my belly feel good about my purchase.
