AC Pianocraft is the oldest family-​owned Steinway retail establishment in New York City. A.C. Pianocraft, Inc. rebuilds and sells Steinways, Mason & Hamlin and other elite grand pianos for a discerning clientele of enthusiastic pianists, educators and music lovers from around the world.

AC Pianocraft is the oldest family-​owned Steinway retail establishment in New York City. It was founded in1966 by Ted Kostakis and associates who utilized systems and methods acquired during decades-​long experience as final inspectors at the Steinway & Sons factory in New York City.

A few years ago, he passed on ownership of AC Pianocraft to his son, Alex Kostkais, who has been involved in the business from an early age and worked side by side with his father. Instilled him were old-​world values and the importance of being extremely detailed oriented. Taking these lessons to heart, Alex works on every piano at A.C. Pianocraft and no piano is released to a customer without his final and thorough inspection.

Recently, a friend needed advice regarding a family heirloom Steinway. We had an unforgettable experience with Alex. He is passionate about what he does, is old school, and training a new generation of piano techs from the ground up. Alex was honest regarding the condition problems of the instrument needing restoration, and suggested several strategies. He also professionally opined the money would only be worth investing if the instrument were to remain in the family as an heirloom. (extremely ethical— a huge boon these days!)
Alex gave us the name of an expert in the Boston area, who could assess the instrument in person, and possibly guide the owner toward a charity donation where the instrument would be of service. A great experience. They are very thorough and trustworthy. I am a professional singer, and voice teacher, using my piano as a work tool, and recommend them highly. Service of this level and commitment is almost nonexistent today.
