Earth + Sky Massage Therapy

I’ve been coming here for Maya Abdominal Therapy with Simone for a about 4 months now, and I really love it. She’s the only person I’ve ever interacted with there. The office is really cozy and quiet, they have a nice little shop, and Simone is really warm and kind. I’ve never had maya massage anywhere else to be able to compare, but the experience is lovely: very relaxing and nurturing. I like to ask a lot of questions, and Simone always explains what she is observing and what (if anything) I should do about it. I’m looking to conceive in the next few months, and she knows this so she gives me diet and lifestyle advice as well. These massages have definitely reduced the amount of discomfort I have during menstruation, and i believe they have also optimized the position of my uterus and increased circulation in the area. In addition to the massage, Simone gives a lot of practical, take-​home information and instruction. She gave me a hand out for how to fertility massage at home, and she’s also instructed me on castor packs and v-​steams. I love it here and I plan on continuing to come for pre-​natal massage.

I’m just entering my third trimester and have been experiencing a lot of discomfort — sciatica, muscle cramping, swelling, rhinitis — you name it, I’ve got it. I did a lot of research before booking a prenatal massage because let’s be honest… who wants to drop $ 150+ on a mediocre (or worse) massage? After reading the reviews, I booked a 90 min prenatal massage with Simone. It was unbelievable. I was hesitant to lay on my side since I can never get too comfortable that way, but Simone arranged the pillows to make me feel like I was floating on a cloud. I drifted in and out of sleep and was so unbelievably relaxed. Best of all, I didn’t have any pain for almost a full week after my massage.
My ONLY complaint is that when I left, I looked at the time and realized that the massage had been closer to 70 mins than the 90 I paid for. I’m sure this was an honest oversight, so I didn’t deduct any stars :)

I just had a lovely short but sweet massage with Cindy– all I could spare was 30 minutes today. I had Neck and shoulder pain from sitting all day and decided to look up something near work. I found Earth and Sky and I was very pleased– nice massage room and the aromatherapy really added to the experience. They have other services I may consider like fertility massage. Wish I had more time. I would have liked an hour holistic massage!

Loved working with Simone. Had a lot of my questions answered and found out great information about pre conception. Hoping I don’t need to go back for that!

Just had a prenatal massage with Simone today and it was INCREDIBLE. She was so responsive and gentle, even when working on problem spots. It was easy to make an appointment and find the location (just follow the hall straight back to the seating area). I will be going back again and again and again!

What a waste of $ 200. I was told they offered massages that help with a retroverted uterus (mayan abdominal), so naively I booked an appointment with Simone. She seemed rather unprepared and pretty much fumbled through it. She also said she’d email me instructions for self massage «if she had time», but I never got those. Perhaps the other services they offer are worth the hefty price tag, mine was certainly not. Never again…
**UPDATE: the owner of this business contacted me about my review. She strives for customer satisfaction and wanted to know more about my experience. She also offered to refund me for this service since I wasn’t happy with it. I find this very commendable, it’s the sign of a business that is honest and sincere. So I’ve added an extra star strictly for the customer service experience which went beyond my expectations.

Earth + Sky is our go-​to place for massage, cranial sacral therapy, mayan abdominal massage and other treatments on offer (there used to be acupuncture and facials at this space as well). Katinka first instructed me in Fertility Awareness in 2009, then became my mayan abdominal massage therapist, then cranial sacral therapist, then prenatal massage therapist and finally our doula at the birth of our son. The care I have received from Katinka over the years is without parallel and I highly recommend her to everyone.
When Katinka started expanding Earth + Sky and taking on new therapists to work in the space, I was weary of switching. I went to work with Simone for mayan abdominal massage and was amazed at how connected and grounding it was. She is a special therapist and lovely person. Then I went to Ihotu for a specific shoulder issue that has been bothering me on and off for a couple of years and in one session she created so much healing, I didn’t feel pain in my shoulder for months. The quality of the staff at Earth + Sky is exceptional and I have yet to have a negative experience there.
Now that I’ve discovered the magic of Ihotu, I’ll be getting my next massage with her! Highly recommend this spot overall and Ihotu, Simone and Katinka from personal experience.

Simone is absolutely fabulous for a Mayan abdominal massage. I can definitely feel my blood circulation improving after each visit.
She is super friendly, kind and supportive.

This review is specifically for Ihotu, although I have to say I’ve enjoyed ALL my massages with the various practitioners (who have all helped me get through two very uncomfortable pregnancies). Ihotu has not only provided some of the most therapeutic and relaxing massages I’ve had, but she was also our doula for the birth of our second child.
I’m not sure where to start, except to say that I’ve had a birth without a doula and another one with one; and the difference was night and day. If you are on the fence, jump to the side of the doula! Having one allowed my husband simply to be present with me and empowered him to help in ways that were not only meaningful but genuinely helpful during labor.
Ihotu is an incredible listener and has such a comforting presence that you truly feel cared for. Because of medical complications, my labor had to be halted with the use of medication; meaning that I had only a few hours to have my son naturally or else I would have required a c-​section (and possibly a hysterectomy due to the medical complication.) With zero contractions and barely any dilation, Ihotu led my husband through giving me acupressure to get my labor going again and I ended up having my son only a few hours later and with 3 pushes.
She captured some beautiful photos of the moment; my husband and I with our son in those first few minutes. That’s a perspective I did not get captured with my daughter and something I hadn’t even known she was going to do (she’d asked earlier and we had the camera out, I just didn’t realize she’d even captured it!). She followed up with post partum care (a beautiful at home massage and cooking) and made me feel incredibly cared for.
Her knowledge, comfort measures and authenticity not only made it a serene time, but she actually helped us avoid a c-​section and bond in an incredible way.
Simply the best! If I wasn’t done having children, I’d hire her again and again!

Had my first visit today. Had a Swedish/​Deep Tissue massage and it was incredible. cynthia is extremely knowledgable and talented. Not to mention an awesome people person! I will definitely be returning at least once a month for continued maintenance.
As a weightlifter, my body needs to stay mobile and flexible. I wouldn’t trust anyone else to help me continue in the pursuit of my fitness goals.

Katinka is amazing! I came to her a month ago for a Mayan massage in preparation for an IVF procedure. The goal was to get me very relaxed in order for me to have the very best chance at getting pregnant. I had been to acupuncture before which was what everyone told me to do, & I never felt relaxed. But one visit to Katinka…& bam! I’m pregnant… with TWINS! All I know is that she got me so relaxed and healed a lot of old scars emotionally & physically in only 1 visit! Therefore leaving me room in mind, body, & spirit to allow a perfect space for new life. I’m so grateful and regardless of finding out I was pregnant, I will be forever grateful for her true caring spirit in what she does for clients. I knew from that first session I would return to see her no matter what. As said in other reviews, she listens to you as an individual and makes you feel taken care of. After all, as adults in crazy stressful NYC, we all need to feel taken care of sometimes!

Excellent service, my masseuse provided a professional, relaxing and rejuvenating experience. And, at the end of it, they applied a discount to my total bill that I didn’t even know applied to me — so, they voluntarily had me pay LESS than they could have charged. I’m looking forward to my next visit.

I have been seeing Katinka for body work for more than 4 years. I first connected with her when I was pregnant with my first child and in need of massage to help ease the kinks of maternity. She’s wonderfully talented and a genuine person who cares. Over the course of our sessions she would take the time to «listen» to my body helping me feel relaxed and rejuvenated at the end of our sessions.
I have also experienced facials with Michelle and it was great. She uses great products and tries to minimalist the discomfort of the extraction process. My skin felt brand new.
Highly recommend this practice and continue to be a loyal customer.

Really enjoyed my facial and prenatal massage here. The facility is located in the back of a medical office which was confusing at first. When you walk in you have to ignore the first reception desk and head down the hall. Once inside there is a comfy couch, some tea laid out and books to browse. It’s a small space but works well.
Both my facialist Michele and masseuse were on time and attentive. Service was great. I loved that my facialist used organic products and incorporated a lot of massage into her facial routine. I almost fell asleep in the chair. My masseuse also used just the right amount of pressure. I recommend them without reserve.

I have been coming to Earth + Sky since 2010 for their prenatal massages. During my first pregnancy I treated myself to one every month, and Katinka does an amazing job. She was always concerned with what might be achy or bothersome, and has a very nurturing personality.
Fast forward to 2014 and I am now pregnant with my second child. I haven’t had time to get my monthly massages (I know, princess problems), but I have been 3 times and had wonderful experiences with Cynthia. She is very strong, but gentle at the same time. I leave the massage feeling a deep relaxation and calm energy that a mom so desperately needs! Thank you!

Won a free massage at this place. You would think this would be wonderful! From the email that I received, I went to their website to set an appointment — pretty painless process. I arrived today 15 minutes before my appt. time. Upon arrival, there was no one in the waiting room. I saw a very small sign that said «if you have a scheduled appt. please be seated & someone will be with you». A woman arrived in the entrance about 5 min later, walked right by me, not acknowledging I was there and went into one of the 6 or so closed doors down a long dimly lit hall. After that someone came out of another door, while on a cell, looked at me and then went back into the room. Once my appt. time had passed about 10 minutes, I called their phone number only to get a voice message. After waiting another 10 minutes, I got up and started looking around. I saw a sign at the end of the hallway with their logo on it. I went and opened the door and the woman that had walked by me was in a massage room with a client with the door open. She did not even say anything until I said I had an appt. and that no one even acknowledged I was even there. She said «didn’t you see the little sign?» I said yes, but that I expected someone to acknowledge I was there since my appt. time had passed 20 minutes. She seemed pretty irritated like I was bothering her. She said «Cynthia would be with me shortly — she was finishing up with a client». I said I called their # and she said «yea, we don’t answer the phone». After that shut the door to her room loudly! I sat down for a second only to decide I do not want these people touching me! No wonder they need to «give away» $ 110 massages– no one should pay that at this place. First impressions are big– there’s was lousy. Too many places in NYC for that to be acceptable. If you want to stay in business, get someone to be at the reception area greeting clients!

I woke up with a terrible migraine that wouldn’t go away. I called the spa and luckily they had 1 appt available in the afternoon. I took it right away. The migraine started going away but the tension still lingered around. I went in and Cynthia greeted me right away, super nice! Took me to the back and offered me water while I filled out paperwork. Then I went into the peaceful massage room and she was amazing! She worked my problem areas for ½ hr! The pressure was perfect for me and I totally zoned out for the whole massage. I felt great afterwards. I would recommend her to anyone. Don’t expect a fancy spa or anything, it’s an office split into 3 businesses. Cynthia will definitely be mine and my family’s ‘go-​to girl’. I attended a 3-​hour Fertility Awareness workshop with Katinka and Erin in June and it was a wonderful introduction to concepts of fertility, body awareness, nutrition and how our reproductive system is connected and impacts the other systems in our body. The environment was comfortable, inviting and casual– a great space to talk with other women about these issues that often go undiscussed.
I definitely have a more heightened awareness and look forward to putting into practice some of the tools and resources that were shared with us.
Wish I would have sought out this knowledge when I was 25!

It was my first time to visit this spa place and I had very great massage at this spa, was a lot better than what I expected. I had very bad lower back and neck ache for last few weeks but after I get deep tissue massage from Cynthia (the therapist) I feel much better and comfortable now. She is very professional and kind. I wish I can visit every week, and I’m sure I will visit again. Highly recommend this spa place !

I had an amazing massage from Cynthia. She was extremely thorough and found my trigger points easily. She significantly relaxed them without breaking the serenity of the experience. I found her to be extremely professional and amazingly good at what she does. I could not recommend her more highly.
