History

Established in 1970.

Empire Rent A Car has been a family run business since 1970. It started out on a gas station lot with several vehicles and has grown to 8 convenient locations throughout Queens, Brooklyn, and Bronx.

With the growth of our company, not only did we have to increase our rental fleet, but we also had to expand our employee base. At the present time, we have over 35 employees answering phones, taking reservations, cleaning vehicles, servicing vehicles, and helping customers on a personal basis when they arrive at our establishment.

if there were negative stars, i would use that. please read the other reviews because it’s true; customer service is not their strong suit. Instead I was yelled at by the owner to get out of his lot after i expressed my discontent at having to wait 40 minutes outside the rental because no one was in the office or the lot and then being told that they do not have any trucks to rent out although i made a reservation couple days earlier and received a confirmation. The only truck on lot was dirty and it was bigger than what we reserved and he told me that he would have to charge me extra for that. I purchased moving equipment but they didn’t have that on the lot either. After the confrontation with the owner, I decided I didn’t want to do business with him and asked for my money back. The whole ordeal of getting a truck took an hour and half but please note I was there early and on time. And please also note that the owner approached me in an aggressive and intrusive manner while I was on the phone with my mother and tried to take pictures of me without my permission (I had not expressed my discontent at that point).

I went in to get a minivan at 8am. It was rather crowded so I wasn’t seen till 8:30a. But! Gloria was the woman working there. She was working both the desk and the lot (poor choice by management) and she hustled through everyone! She helped everyone and was clear and concise with her instructions.
She was very helpful even though she had to do everything herself.

I went to the LIC location on Monday morning without a reservation the owner was very kind to rent me a moving van on the spot, it was affordable reliable and stress free. That’s all I can really ask for and that’s what I got! Will recommend this place to friends

Hi,
I made my reservation by phone and car was ready for pick up at morning. I got white Grand Cherokee. The car was good except that somebody smoked in the car before. Although it was non smoking car according my reservation agreement. I would rate with 4 stars because of this but can not do this because the service was excellent.

Upon returning my car, at my insistence, the folks from Empire’s main location (Ian) were able to offer me a discount, but the inconvenience they caused me, including completely missing the event I was renting the car for in the first place, means I won’t ever be renting from them again.

I tried to rent a car here. I waited for over an hour for them to «go get» my car. Their system was down, but, still, they should have known I was coming and have a car ready. An hour and a half later, I am still waiting. They don’t apologize. They are smug, from the management on down. According to them, it is my problem I am waiting, not theirs. They offer nothing. NOT EVEN AN APOLOGY. This company is thoroughly unprofessional– I had to call twice to find this location because it is housed in a truck company of a different name. Rest assured, there is no way to know if you will get the car or van you need at the time you need it. Save yourself the stress and spend the extra hundred at a REPUTALBE car company that will treat you like human being and will have your car there for you when you arrive.
