Lounge 47

When Lounge 47 was at its peak, it was hitting bullseyes in every direction. The food was money, the happy hour was rowdy, the space was impressive, and the cylinders were firing from top to bottom. It was indeed one of LIC’s best small eateries /​drinking holes.
But alas, few things are forever and Lounge 47 closed its doors last week after enduring what would be a very tough two final years. The big complaint was that they lost their backyard area due to disputes with the landlord and slowly mini changes began to take shape — the food took a slight hit, some popular items were no longer on the menu, and even delivery had subsided for a bit. They had clearly seen better days.
I like to remember the good times. It was one of my preferred Queens bars and when they were in better spirits, they were hitting the ground running with better service. The food has its highs (mac and cheese /​wings /​burgers) and when the weather was shining, so was their incredibly spacious backyard.
But alas, it is no more. I hope there are better days ahead L47 folks.
Vernon Blvd just got quieter.

This place is awesome — the drinks are food and the food is terrific! Definitely try the pork buns as they are THE BEST!

Lounge 47 offers a happy hour 2-​for-​1 special on beers and wine, which is great. The waitress was friendly and incredibly awesome by letting us order a couple of rounds right before the end of happy hour. The LIC Iced Tea is one of their specialty drinks — very good!
The décor is nothing particularly special, but it is a quiet place and good for groups and conversation. We were even able to move to different tables as our group got bigger with no problem.
One strange thing is that the patio is permanently closed — I think it has to do with a building violation or hazard from adjoining wall or something, but still, it is a bummer to not be able to use awesome outdoor space.

They have a great $ 11 burger and draft beer deal that runs from 12:00 — 4:00PM. The burger wasn’t really medium rare like I asked, but it was still a good burger. The shoestring fries were a great compliment. There’s a respectable beer selection, while I ordered a Gaffel Kolsch, I would recommend a Brooklyn Lager or Lagunitas IPA with your burger.
The bartender/​waitress was attentive and kind enough to split the check if we needed.

Used to love this place. It was my «go to» spot in LIC. Casual, comfortable atmosphere and nice people. However I’ve grown disillusioned after my last few visits… First of all they have an adorable garden with outdoor seating but as of last summer it seems as if it was no longer in use. I don’t know if they closed it permanently or if it has just been closed every time I’ve gone.
Secondly, they used to have a good well rounded selection of food, of which my personal favorite was the mac and cheese with bacon. As another reviewed has mentioned they have recently stopped serving their full menu and have reduced the menu to a series of small plate options. I don’t know about anyone else but when I want dinner, I want dinner and tapas style menus are so two years ago.

Come here quite often w/​local friends and always recieve friendly services. My fav dish there is the devil eggs for sure and their mojito is quite yummy. we generally order a bunch of app dishes and not so much the main/​entrée courses… so can’t really tell but from what i see, their portion (for the price) is quite reasonable. the only think i really dont like about the joint is the way the plc is set up… i find the seating arrangement a bit awkward and not always comfy but definitely not a deal breaker. A stable for LIC low key no fuss hang out.

We were walking about LIC the other day and decided to try some place new. That’s when we stumbled upon Lounge 47. It was still pretty early when we came in for dinner, but there were a fair amount of people there having drinks and small plates.
Looking at the menu, we decided to get the Fried Pickles to start wtih Avocado Cilantro dipping sauce. They were fried to perfection! The outside was hot and crispy while the pickle was just the right amount of sour. For mains, we got the Tuna Burger– a yellow fin tuna patty with sesame oil and wasabi mayo and the El Chivito, a behemoth of a sandwich. It had grilled steak, ham, bacon, swiss cheese, roasted garlic mayo, olives, sautéed onions and a fried egg on top. Both orders came with fries, which at best, were mediocre. For dessert, we order the Almond Ice Cream– almond ice cream drizzled with Amaretto and biscotti. The ice cream came from Malu, a local ice cream shop, which I love. Overall, the appetizer and dessert were definitely our favorites of the meal.
Service was great. Our server was very attentive and helpful.
They also have outside seating, so it would probably be a place to grab a drink during a warm summer evening.

I like Lounge 47. When I want a good, quality burger, this is where I go. I give the Lounge 47 burger four stars, but the overall bar/​restaurant 3 stars.

*The burger is good, but with a name like Five Alarm I was expecting extra spicy.

Wasabi eggs were a fun thing to order, but not sure I would get them again. The wasabi was subtle, but it lacked another kind of kick.
The frickles were tremendous. That was fun.
And we occupied a big booth so were comfortable and able to have a merry time.

Great laid back place to grab a bite and a beer in the LIC neighborhood! Had the Brooklyn Lager pulled pork sandwich. SUPER GOOD w the slaw on it. Came w an order of fries that were superb as well. Also indulged in the mac and cheese which was also a treat.
Washed it down with a couple of Brooklyn Lagers which were super cold. Nothing better than a nice juicy cold beer!

Nice spot I happened upon after-​work on a Friday. Nice atmosphere, nice bartender, and I was given a free drink just for checking in! Had their Shepherd’s Pie, while not the best I ever had, was still pretty good. A good spot to chill that at least on the night I was there, was not filled with pretentious LICers…
I am amending and upgrading my review of Lounge 47 — As I have returned to this place a few times and the experience is getting better and better each time! I have enjoyed hanging at the bar and getting to know Salma (one of the best!) and the regulars. It is a warm inviting cool place, kind of like that friend who had the cool apartment that everyone always congregated.
The Mac and Cheese and Shepherd’s Pie are great comfort foods (despite Chris N’s review) and the staff has always been attentive, friendly, and smile to everyone — regulars or not. I have been treated well and made welcome since I first stepped through the door.

Hidden behind this very chill, retro lounge is a surprisingly versatile and all-​around delicious menu. One that actually beats many of the more well-​known heavy hitters on this street. Where else in LIC can you mix-​and-​match your sliders with fries, grab a fragrant bowl of coconut-​ginger chicken soup, or savor a mole, falafel, or a traditional shepherd’s pie?
It’s a quirky and fun little assortment of tapas, sandwiches, and entrees – each one so surprisingly tasty that it makes you want to come back again and again to see what other little gems you can discover.
A full bar menu offers everything from a glass of Argentine Malbec to a spirited cocktail list, employing ingredients like wild blueberry juice or Jamaican ginger beer. With seating ranging from couches and coffee tables for lounging in the front, to full banquettes and tables for dinner service in back, Lounge 47 is the ideal lunch spot, after dinner cocktail perch, or the perfect solution for friends who can’t agree on one cuisine in particular – there’s something here for everyone.

Whatever you do, don’t get the «grown up mac n cheese». Absolutely disgraceful, it was kraft mixed with about 10 onions, I sent it back. I’m from Wisconsin and it’s pretty freakin’ hard to make anything with cheese that I can’t eat.

Came here on for dinner with friends who recently moved to the area in hopes of scoring a seat in the outdoor garden. Upon arriving we learned the lounge lost their battle with their neighbor and the garden is now closed. SAD. This might have been the only redeeming quality about this place since the food that was served was pretty unsatisfying.
For apps we tried the wasabi deviled eggs and fried pickles. Interesting novelty foods to try but not something I crave or would order again.
For entrée I ordered the sliders: Pulled Pork, Kalifornia and Southwestern. The plus of ordering sliders is that they have about 6 – 7 types of sliders that you can mix and match. The negative is none of them really were all that great. The burger patty had a tiny portion of overcooked meat but at least the toppings were fresh. The pulled pork slider was ok but not really flavorful. The hubby enjoyed his fish and chips but the taste of the batter reminded me of a box of Gorton’s frozen fish dinner.
The place definitely is more suited for having a few drinks than finding good food.

Went here for the first time on a week day after reading all of the glowing reviews for their burgers, not just here but in Time Out NY. Not only were the burgers pretty damn good, they came with a beer and fries for a total of $ 10. Hell yeah weekday special.
Returned this past Sunday while trying to pass time, 2 hours to be precise, while we waited for our name to be called at the nearby M. Wells for brunch. This second outing to Lounge 47 did not disappoint either; it has a smart casual feel, out door seating in the back, a friendly staff and vibe, and reasonably priced drafts.
Love this place, but can’t comment on it’s night time scene yet.

Earlier this evening (a Friday in mid-​April), Boyfriend and I were heading into Manhattan by way of the 7 train in LIC. The plan was to have an earlyish dinner at Pulino’s in the Bowery, as we’ve heard great things about their pizza, their desserts, and their new chef. Add to that the fact that I had a delicious dining experience at Pastis last summer and have been wanting to try another Keith McNally venue since then. yeah, we were pretty sold on Pulino’s.
That being said, once we parked our car in LIC and began walking in the direction of the subway station, we made a significant observation: it was DAMN COLD! Well, that wasn’t part of the plan. But we continued on, down Vernon Blvd, and as we did, we became aware that we were walking right past some pretty chic looking restaurants! We decided to ditch Pulino’s in favor of any one of the options surrounding us, because, hey, that meant we’d be warmer, and fed, faster. Truth. Lounge 47 was actually the last menu we read over, and it beat out every other. Boyfriend was immediately sold on the wasabi deviled eggs and the grown up mac & cheese before we even stepped foot inside.
The bartender offered us the option of choosing any seat we wanted, which I found refreshingly unpretentious. We chose one of the banquette tables in the back, and though there were diners on either side of us, we had plenty of physical space and did not feel that they were encroaching on our privacy at all, and vice versa, which is a rarity with such seating arrangements! Boyfriend ordered as above, and I got the house salad — dressing on the side — and the buffalito. We decided against alcoholic beverages for this particular evening, and shared all four dishes. Thoughts as follows:
Wasabi Deviled Eggs: Delicious! Loved the spicy kick from the wasabi, pretty much tasted exactly as we expected. Boyfriend: «Oh yeah, sit me at the bar, keep bringin me my beers, and I could polish off a dozen of those, no problem!»
House Salad: Really impressive, actually! No carby carrots, croutons, or cheapy black olives for me to pick out — always A+. Just wonderfully fresh greens, cherry tomatoes, red onion, and cucs, with this particularly yummy vinaigrette. Ordered it as a «filler» so as not to load up on the more fattening food to come, but ended up really enjoying it.
Grown-​Up Mac & Chesse: The rosemary makes it, no question! Just the right amount of cheesy — not overly dense nor overly liquidy. Not so many breadcrumbs either, which I really appreciated, and the herbs just add this absolutely perfect depth of flavor and freshness that I personally have never seen achieved in a mac & cheese before. Portion size was just right as well.
The Buffalito: Good take, with one interesting twist. Crispness of the Portuguese roll worked better than the softer alternatives that we’re used to, and the chicken tasted pan-​fried rather than deep fried, which is always a nice change. We could have used a bit more buffalo sauce and/​or more kick in it. Boyfriend found the amount of iceberg lettuce to be a bit much, I was okay with it. Flavor of the chipotle mayo seemed to get drowned out by the roasted red peppers, which I was surprised to find added a pleasant but not overpowering or artificial sweetness to the dish. The french fries were ridiculously scrumptious — and I am NOT a thin and crispy kinda girl. Perfectly seasoned, highly recommended.
Overall, we felt that each dish had at least one element that seemed to «lighten» what would have otherwise been a heavy dish. We both took note of this and left feeling satisfied, but not stuffed or bloated. The prices were completely reasonable, possibly even flat-​out inexpensive, in general, but especially considering the quality of the food. Considering what we were prepared to spend at Pulino’s, this felt like an absolute steal to us! The atmosphere was really laid back in a pleasant but not lazy kind of way, the décor was appealing without being overwhelming. The service was fine — a bit slow at first, but it picked up, and our waitress warmed up. This was really a wonderful introduction to Long Island City for us as a couple, and I know we will be back, both to the area and to Lounge 47!

After being snuck in an Elite event at Food Cellar and waking our alcohol monster with their beer samples, Lizz K, Jenn C, May May L. and I searched for a nearby place to feed the alcohol monster. It just tastes so good when it touches the lips.
The servers were very friendly and knowledgeable of their beers, being in sales I can always appreciate someone that can pitch. Don’t really remember what beer I had but it was quite good.
Inside was damn dark and cozy, I almost had trouble staying awake. Cushy seats+dim lights+alcohol+warmth = comatosed Melly Mel. Then Lizz K. walked in on a drunken patron peeing in the dark, her reaction woke me up hahahaha. Then I walked in on him, and it wasn’t as funny =(

Kevin S. nailed what’s great about this place: the vibe, being warm and inviting with zero pretension. Good for groups or something one on one.
I loved that the bartender sold me on my beer choice by telling me: it was Josef Stalin’s beer.
It has big circular booths and a banquette with tables on both sides of the back half of the room. There’s also a back patio which looks like it might be fun in the summer.
