Description

Specialties

The Sand Box is a place to create and play with your set and props before tech week. It’s tailored to small theater and film companies, and it’s an experiment in sharing & reusing resources. We rent our rehearsal space (16′ x 17′) for $ 10/hour and our shop (22′ x 12′ workspace) for $ 75/day. Email badsandy@gmail.com for info and reservations.

History

Established in 2013.

The creators are members of Gideon Productions, a small theater company that has been producing new plays in NYC since 2000. We’d been building our sets in Sandy Yaklin & Mac Roger’s live/work space but needed to move, and given the high price of real estate in NYC, that meant looking at «creative» options. We reached out to companies we’d worked with — Boomerang Theatre Company, Flux Theatre Ensemble and Vampire Cowboys — about sharing a storage, shop & rehearsal space. The result is a unique resource in Queens, not just for these companies, but for other independent theater and film companies as well.
