Specialties
High Hand Art Gallery is an artist-owned cooperative gallery located in the High Hand Nursery fruit shed on Taylor Road in Loomis, California. With about 30 artists from the Sierra Foothills, Placer County and greater Sacramento area we are highly selective in the acceptance process to assure the highest quality work in each media area, as well as assure a balance of media types creating an enjoyable gallery experience for all. When you visit our gallery, you will be meeting our artists as each of us staff the gallery approximately two days each month.
History
Established in 2008.
The gallery opened in fall 2008, after multi-media artist Patricia Sokolowski hired High-Hand Nursery to landscape her yard. Patricia had placed some of her metal work around her yard. High-Hand owner Scott Paris saw the artwork and asked Patricia if she would like to sell her work at the nursery. He had a room he’d been using merely for storage that would make a great gallery space. And simple as that, the idea for High-Hand Gallery was born.
The «room» turned out to be in the historic fruit sheds in downtown Loomis. Once a fruit-packing plant that was responsible for much of the fresh fruit shipped east from California in the first half of the 20th century, the building now houses a variety of shops. The gallery is in the oldest section, which was built in 1901.
Over the years since starting, we have grown our artist membership to over thirty artists, improved our building, broadened our media types and become one of the magnet galleries of the greater Sacramento and Placer County
