Lopez Farm Cottages and Tent Camping

We have camped here and stayed in one of the cottages and couldn’t have been more pleased. If you’re looking for a relaxing getaway, this is the perfect place.

We loved everything about our stay in cabin #4. I was a little worried about the self check-​in process but it was very straightforward. We appreciated the detailed map with little descriptions of places to visit on the island, and the binder with menus from the village restaurants. Everything we needed for a comfortable stay was right at our finger tips. The rumors are true: you probably will not see an employee for the duration of your stay. I put that in the bonus category.
The cottage and grounds were exactly what I’d hoped: clean, well kept, private, and very quiet.
This is not specific to this property but just an overall note: we arranged to have bicycles left at the ferry for us. It was very manageable to pick up the bikes and then bike up the hill to the lopez island farm cottages. It was then likewise easy to bike or walk into town for dinner (we did both). As an aside, it’s about 2 miles to town from the property. Some of the info says «less than a mile» and that’s not the case. It is, however, a pretty easy walk.

This is our second stay here and I just love it. So quiet and peaceful. This time around we brought another couple with us so that we could hike Lopez. They also loved these darling little cottages.
Full payment is required at the time of reservations. Visa and Mastercard are the only credit cards accepted.
Upon arrival you need to park in a little gravel parking lot. Check-​in information is tacked to a cork board. There are three wagons available to haul your belongings to your cabin. One is not greeted here at all. Everything is self serve. Some may not like that but we don’t mind. Adds to the charm.
We stayed in cabins 2 and 3 — $ 192.15 each after taxes and such. Each cabin is equipped with a quantity of 2 of everything: wine glasses, silverware, plates etc… A basket of fresh fruit (satsuma, peach and an apple), two packages of coffee, an assortment of teas and two biscotti pastries were provided. The fridge was stocked with two Chobani yogurts, two cans of Kern’s juice and a bowl of individual half & half cream. There was a tray of ice cubes in the freezer.
The beds are queen size. The shower has two heads. There is a gas fireplace to ward of the evening chill. Wi-​Fi is available but there is not a TV in these two cabins. There are several quest books that are fun to read through and sign.
Outside you will find a community BBQ, which requires briquettes. Adironack chairs are provided. Be careful of slivers. I used a blanket that I found in the cabin to sit on to avoid slivers and snagging of my pants. There is a community hot tub that is enclosed for privacy.
While relaxing outside the cabins it’s fun to watch the bunnies (not too many this time around) and the deer and her fawns. Such a great place to catch up with ones’ partner and/​or friends.
There are about nine hikes that one can get to from these cabins. If one decides to drive to any of the state parks on Lopez, the Discover pass is required.
Thank you for the much needed relaxing weekend Lopez. You’re a gem.

So quiet and peaceful, lots of birds and deer. We stayed in Cottage 1, which has its own hot tub. The cottage is set up perfectly with everything you might need. The gas fireplace was nice when it got chilly at night, and in the morning we sat outside with our coffee. A nice mile bike ride to Lopez Village, and about two miles from the ferry– with a little planning, it would be easy to stay here without having to bring a car.

This place is one of the most unique lodging options around. It is designed for couples and it is a wonderfully romantic place to spend the weekend. The cottages are snug and clean and warm. A breakfast of yogurt, fresh fruit, biscotti and aranciata (love the Italian theme!) is left out for you. You’ll need to walk to the cabins schlepping your gear, so some folks may not like that. The reason however is to maintain peace and quiet at your cabin-​no slamming car doors and no headlights in the windows. You check in at a kiosk so there is no tête-​à-​tête service. Some folks will like that-​others won’t. I’ve stayed here twice and would stay again in a flash. You’d be hard pressed to find a more romantic and unique lodging option around.

This review is about the camping; I can’t speak to the cabins. We needed a place to camp on rather short notice with a very late check-​in (around 10:30 PM) once we realized we’d goofed up the ferry schedule and would be arriving Lopez later than planned, and with no where to stay. I spoke briefly with the proprietor over the phone regarding our desire for a camp site and he directed me to their website for reservation and payment. I was able to fairly easily navigate the site quickly, even using just an iPhone, and was emailed a confirmation rather quickly.
Check-​in at the property is DIY, but easy and straightforward (even at night but bring a flashlight if you plan to arrive when we did!). The campsite was large and private, with Adirondack-​style plastic chairs and a hammock. Private hot showers and a coffee maker in the common area near a covered picnic and fireplace structure was very welcome in the morning.
We never met, or even saw, the owners but even from a distance they really bailed us out of a jam of no place to stay and little time to arrange accommodations. Would absolutely stay here again!

What was supposed to be a fun getaway weekend that my girlfriend and I had been planning for over four months turned into a total nightmare when we arrived to find that we had been double booked and left S.O.L. on Labor Day weekend. Not only was I charged for my «stay» but the initial assumption was that it was us who had made the mistake of arriving on the wrong weekend. After digging through my emails and digging through their emails in their office I was able to prove that it had been their mistake and that I had confirmed the correct dates. Only then was I assured a refund (received on ⁹⁄₅). Regardless, we were left frantically trying to salvage our vacation weekend on our own. The owners of Lopez Farm Cottages gave us a luke warm apology and did not offer to help us find an alternate place to stay. Already $ 400 down with no place to stay on a busy holiday weekend, we were left to fend for ourselves on an island that has NO cell phone reception. The owners of Lopez Farm Cottages suggested that we just go back home («You’re from Issaquah? That’s not too far.») but with a little luck, some really nice hosts, and two hours of frantic phone calls through voip (wifi is the only way to make phone calls without a lan line on this island) we were able to find a place to stay and salvage our holiday weekend. We had to stay at two different places in one weekend, both of which were more expensive, and the snacks that we brought were spoiled because one place didn’t have a fridge and the other didn’t have a microwave. In conclusion, I’ve stayed at Lopez Farm Cottages before without problems. There’s no other lodging on Lopez quite like it. But unless they get their booking system updated and come up with a better plan of action when they make a mistake like this, then I cannot continue to recommend them. It’s a shame.
⁹⁄₅ update: I have received my refund. I still hope that Lopez Farm will have a better course of action next time there’s a double booking. Double bookings happen. That’s just a fact for these types of businesses but lending a helping hand should also happen.

Romantic, peaceful, relaxing. My boyfriend and I stayed over Memorial Day weekend. We normally like to avoid the travel crowds but found Lopez to be a perfect get-​a-​way. The farm cottages were so wonderful. Bunnies and robins hop around a large open meadow as sheep graze near by. Huge adirondack
chairs welcome you to enjoy your morning coffee or twiddle away the evening drinking wine, while taking in the farms pastoral beauty. The proprietors created an excursions list we found to be very helpful in planning beach picnics and bike rides. I would recommend this place highly!

Spent our 21^st anniversary here recently, and I couldn’t hope for a more restful place. The cabins are homey and comfortable without being overly rustic. I really liked the number of doors and windows too, it was nice to get as much fresh air as we wanted. The first night we grilled chicken on the barbecue and drank wine from the adirondack chairs as the twilight grew — it was fantastic. Fresh fruit and yogurt in the morning is wonderful! The only thing I could suggest as an improvement would be to get better coffee. All the other details were so conscientiously provided for, that it was a shame to open a sealed pack containing a sealed filter of mystery coffee ground who-​knows-​when. But you know what? I was having such a good time, I drank it anyway.

I agree with the long and detailed review Steve P. He pretty much said it all. The only exception I would take is that we found the lack of anyone greeting you, talking to you, saying good bye, etc… a bit off putting. We were not looking for hand holding solicitous service or grovelling — maybe just something to make the not feel like a neutron bomb had gone off.
The cabin was great and we would consider coming back to camp as well.

This is the perfect place for a quiet, romantic weekend getaway. The prices are pretty reasonable, especially off season. The location is great — out in the country but not too far from the ferry and within easy walking distance of Lopez Village. The cabins are a comfortable size, light and airy but also cozy and clean. We especially appreciated that the décor is not the typical «doilies and dolls» kitsch that infests so many small country inns. It’s nothing fancy, but not funky, either — just basic, tasteful, understated.
Our cabin had no TV, no phone, no CD player, no wi-​fi, no DSL — perfect! But there is cell phone service. It had a gas fireplace heater, a very comfy queen bed, double shower heads in the shower, a dining area, a modestly equipped kitchenette (under-​counter fridge, sink, microwave, coffee maker), and basic dishes and silverware. The restaurant scene on Lopez is not too exciting, so the kitchen is especially handy; save your money and bring some basic food from home that you can either eat without cooking or heat up in the microwave. The complimentary breakfast basket has a couple of biscotti, yogurt, juice, fresh fruit, coffee, tea, and chocolates.
The cabins are relatively close together, but there are enough trees around to still feel private. There is a shared hot tub under the trees (one cabin has a private hot tub); there is no path to the tub and minimal lighting, so you might want to bring a flashlight to make finding your way there and back a little easier.
We also liked the fact that, aside from someone coming to bring us a breakfast basket and empty our trash, we saw NO ONE who worked there. The whole thing is set up to be very simple and self-​sufficient: you check in at a little shack where a note for you is tacked up on the bulletin board. A rolling cart is provided to take your stuff to your cabin (you can’t drive up to the cabins), and the cabin is stocked with most everything you might need. If you are someone who likes to be waited on and fretted over, this DIY thing might not appeal. But we much prefer their minimalist approach to service, and it keeps the costs down. There is a phone at the check-​in shack, and I’m sure if you needed something you could call and someone would assist you.
Lopez is small and sleepy and there is not a lot to do there — some nice places to hike or bike or kayak, but the village offers few distractions. This is fine, as it just encourages you to relax and do nothing. It rained a lot the weekend we were there, but we were content to be snug in our cabin, reading and eating soup we made at home.

Wow! I can’t believe no one has written about this place. The husband and I spent one night of our honeymoon here. I think this place made Lopez Island our favorite of the San Juans. This is the place to go if you want absolute peace and quiet. I saw a few other cars but never saw a soul. Then again we had the cabin that was apart from the others. The cabin was very cute and tastefully Scandinavian. The bedding was a bit too flowery, shabby chic for my tastes, but the down comforter felt wonderful. We enjoyed watching all the bunnies from the hot tub!
