Furuichi Bros Los Altos Nursery

Wow what a pretty nursery in the heart of Los Altos. It makes me want a huge backyard so I can plant everywhere. We decided to head over to grab plants and herbs for our first vegetable garden. The staff was beyond helpful and spent a lot of time reviewing gardening best practices with us.
They have a great selection of organic plants, which will be perfect for our mini garden. Since we bought so much they even threw in extra nutrients for the root ball of the plant. We will definitely be back to Los Altos Nursery because of their great customer service.

We are big fans of this Nursery and the family that runs it.
They are NOTHING like Summer Winds or Home Depot.
They ARE personable, incredibly knowledgeable (ALL OF THEM).
They have unique quality selection and take really good care of their plants. Their employee to plant ratio is higher than any commercial garden supply.
They are hidden secretly in a residential area of Los Altos– fun to find and visit just for the zen. A beautiful large pond with seating and many turtles they have rescued and even bass.
Tyler in particular has been especially helpful problem solving advanced gardening needs.
This year they have a new Organic line of dry amendments ‘Down to Earth” every avid gardener should have.
Make it a special trip and enjoy this garden nursery.

Staff was great, prices were great, selection and variety were great. I had, on two separate occasions, conversations with the owner about what should be planted where/​when (indoor, outdoor, for butterflies, for better blooming, you name it!). A+.

They have a very interesting selection of trees and garden plants.
I knew exactly what I was looking for, a read oleander shaped like a tree, so i called before going and they confirmed that they had it. As soon as we entered the place we found all sort of garden and fruit plants that we had never found before in any other nursery. Also the plants where in excellent health, the fruit was awesome.
The pond with the turtles what an extra feature for our kid, but they don’t do much.
The advice and the help was excellent too.

The most horrible customer service I’ve ever experienced. I bought some herbs there that I needed to return because they died after one day, even though I watered them twice. When I came to return them, the cashier sent me to see the store owner. Before I uttered a word, the store owner started yelling at me. He yelled that I did not water the plants and he would not return my money. I tried to tell him that I watered them twice but he wouldn’t listen. He kept yelling and calling me a liar. He was literally out of his mind. He kept yelling and calling me names for 10 minutes and would not give me my money back. I told him that I would put a stop payment on my credit card and he would not get a penny. Then he threw me out of the store. The man seems to have serious mental issues. I understand that he did not want to return my money if he felt that I was at fault, but having a tantrum like that at a customer — I literally have never thought that was possible in America. Buyer beware before patronizing this business.

I found Feruichi Bros after buying numerous plants at Home Depot and Orchard. Being a new gardener I actually didn’t know any better but what a difference! The prices are comparable but the selection and service at Feruichi is exponentially better. I talked to a gentleman with a degree in horticulture that helped me select the right plants for the application I needed.
Highly recommended, will go back often!

We LOVE this nursery. We go there every year for compost, vegetables, and then occasional fruit trees, shrubs, etc. They are *somewhat* more expensive than a Home Depot or Lowes, but man, you get what you pay for and more at Furuichi. Terrific expertise, and people who really want to take the time to listen to your questions and give great advice.
We have tried multiple new types of tomatoes that, after describing what characteristics we were looking for in the fruit, the staff member gave us detailed descriptions and helped us choose the best varieties for us. Their plants are high quality, healthy specimens and always seem to perform well in our yard once we get them home (vs big chains where we have had issues).
My son loves to ask questions, and they are unfailingly patient and seem to enjoy teaching him about all sorts of plants. And they have a koi pond and cats, which make it a fun activity for the whole family to visit. It is a local family owned business, and love to support them for that reason as well.

Gotta love a family owned nursery. Was visiting the area and stopped by to look around. Am in the landscape business so have been to many nurseries. Very chill and helpful staff. Lots of gardening stuff inside. Average size selection but nicely organized. High plant prices are on par with other small nurseries/​boutique garden shops. Small parking lot in front.

We stopped by here looking for more awesome succulents. The selection was a bit more limited than we imagined. I also noticed some plants that didn’t look like they’d been paid attention to for a while. Some of the succulents were also banged up… or had lost leaves.
Mostly what I didn’t like was the prices. This place is a lot more expensive than several other places we’ve been. (see my other reviews). There was a palm type bush that we liked, but it was $ 50 and half the size of the one we purchased elsewhere for $ 24.

The Verdict: A charming plant nursery nestled in a residential neighborhood.
Great customer service, very friendly people with a fairly good selection of everything from vegetable starts and fruit trees to rose bushes and succulents… and even a koi pond and a few turtles. Prices are competitive to the nurseries in the area. Other items like water cans and non-​plant items are pricey. But all in all, a good place to get our spring garden going. I will be back!

Oh my gosh, I love this place. I’ve only discovered it recently but am so glad that I finally did. It’s got everything you look for in a great nursery: excellent selection, healthy plants, and a knowledgeable and friendly staff. On top of that the prices are very good! It’s also just a lovely place to walk around in, very nicely laid out and lots of shade and pretty landscaping. As an avid gardener I’m actually thrilled to be able to add such a gem of a place to my list of resources for when I want to enhance my garden. Now if I could just figure out where I’m going to put all these new roses…

I can remember coming here as a kid with my parents. It was much bigger then, but the great quality remains. A visit to the Los Altos Nursery is like a visit to a botanical garden. It should be preserved forever as a historical landmark.
Most of the staff is very knowledgeable. There have been at least three Furuichi generations working here. Darryl and the younger generation are really helpful, answering local gardening questions with professional skill and expertise. They know what will thrive here and what may need special care.
The nursery is well stocked during spring and summer months, and closes from November thru February each year.

Today I shopped for a front lawn shade tree to replace a beloved Raywood ash that failed. Los Altos nursery folks had great advice and help in choosing a replacement. They showed me a beautiful, healthy, Chinese Pistache that I fell in love with. We are seniors, and can’t do the kind of heavy work that planting a tree requires. Antonio was able to load it up, bring it to our home, and three hours later it was planted in our front lawn. What a happy day. Thank you!

I ordered an exotic plant (Indian neem) from Florida and needed to ensure I had the right quality of soil, as well as a couple pots. A couple other nurseries in the area felt like «big box» stores… not only were they clueless but they didn’t seem to care.
At Los Altos nursery, the owner/​staff were both caring & knowledgeable — the owner actually knew what a neem was (and took great personal interest in my new, somewhat rare, saplings), and then recommended the right soil/​pots.

My husband uses this place in lieu of therapy. The folks are absolutely GREAT and helpful. You always know when he (my husband) has had a good session: he comes home loaded with plants and supplies.
Can’t recommend this place and the folks there enough.

Great service, and selections are great– many different options– all of good quality– can tell they really care about their plants! Prices in line or better for the high quality.

I love this place–
We originally discovered this place last fall when our Japanese landscape designer suggested we come here to pick out a Japanese maple, that even though she can get trees wholesale prices, the owners here know how to trim/​shape J-​maples. Deane listened to our description of planting location and helped us pick out a multi-​trunk green maple. We might have even gotten a discount b/​c this was a few weeks before the nursery shut down for winter.
Then this spring I somehow became obsessed with humming birds and came here inquiring after salvia and penstemons. Deane helped me picked out several varieties/​sizes and provided detailed planting instructions, along with how much soil amendment I’d need. We’ve since picked up more perennials and they’ve all established well. They’re also dog-​friendly, I’ve seen other customers bring well behaved dogs to the nursery so I brought my shiba along the last couple of visits, now he looks forward to coming to see Sasquatch the mouser.

Just bought some plants and shrubs from this place for an early Mother’s Day gift and loved this place. This nursery is nestled close to the library and the downtown area, but is situated in the middle of a neighborhood, which can make it overlooked. Even so with the hard to find location, it is well worth the drive.
When I got there, the staff were helpful and everyone including the gardeners and the owners personally asked if I could use some help. That isn’t a small feat considering there were quite a few different groups of customers there and a constant flurry of gardening questions being posed at the staff. They were honest and made thoughtful suggestions when I even asked for help and joined the masses asking for their attention or advice.
Although you can’t forget that they are in the business of sales, they weren’t pushy or outrageous about the suggestions they made for supplies to grow healthy, beautiful-​looking plants. After comparing this nursery, to other places nearby, it is fairly reasonably priced. Even though they sell their plants at a slightly higher price range, the quality of their plants seemed healthier and much more outstanding than the depressing plants found in other places (which may have been attributed to the powers of fertilizer use). Because while other places boast shrubs, they specialize in hardy plant variety TREES. I am confident that my gardening purchases will look beautiful in my mom’s garden for years to come!

Extremely knowledgeable and quick to serve. Los Altos Nursery is awesome!!! If you have a question about gardening, they’ll have an excellent answer for you. I’ve even brought in cuttings from a «mystery» plant and they’ve solved it! Their prices are competitive and quality of the plants is outstanding.
I would give them 10 stars if I could!!!

I love this place. So much. It’s my favorite nursery in the Bay Area. For sure. The selection is awesome. The prices are lower than almost any other place I’ve been to. The store is beautiful. The staff is awesome. I dunno — what else could one want? I’ve bought lemon trees, lavender plants, Bouganvillas, tomato plants and can’t wait until I go back.
