Specialties

We offer a full range of supplies for knitting, crochet and weaving, including an outstanding selection of yarns, knitting needles, patterns and books, buttons, crochet hooks, project bags and tool cases. We also offer classes for all skill levels, including kids.

History

Established in 1984.

In its almost thirty-year history, the shop has evolved from needlepoint, crafts and knitting to be more focused on knitting, crochet and weaving. The current owner, Stephanie Hein, took the reins at the end of 2009 and has worked to create a friendly, welcoming, and inspirational atmosphere for anyone interested in fiber arts, regardless of skill level. She enjoys keeping the yarn selection current with fashion trends while maintaining a commitment to the traditional yarns and techniques Uncommon Threads is known for.

Meet the Business Owner

Stephanie H.

Business Owner

Stephanie took over ownership of Uncommon Threads in November 2009, after having been a customer for several years. At the time, she had been home raising her kids and taking classes in the Fashion Department at Canada College, and the opportunity to buy a yarn shop was too good to pass up! Her previous work experience includes project management for a web site design company in San Francisco and local non-profits, as well as costuming for Bay Area theater companies. A native of the Chicago area, Stephanie came to Santa Clara University for college and decided to stay after graduation.

Stephanie’s main goal for Uncommon Threads has been to make it a warm, supportive place where knitters and crocheters of every skill level can feel comfortable and inspired to try new things. She enjoys keeping up with fashion trends as well as learning more about the rich history of knitting traditions and techniques.
