TL;DR — there are cheaper places on the block and the building already has a bad rep in hollywood. you can do better. seriously. if you want specifics on this«luxury» building: I lived there last year and was super underwhelmed with my experience. At the time, my husband and I were looking at this building vs Hollywood and Vine, and ended up choosing Affinity because we were told they were solely looking for… not yuppies, but not a dorm vibe either. i guess some sort of magical middle ground where people were young and fun, but responsible… where hollywood & vine totally had a more temporary and hard partying vibe to it. Affinity was kind of awful from the day we moved in and found our entire apartment was massively infested with ants. when trying to deal with the ant problem, we also found out there was no on site management, a problem that would plague us throughout our year long stay, seriously we must’ve gone through 6 – 8 managers and that’s not counting a huge swath of time with NO manager. sure we’d have managers who would stick around for a week or two only to get replaced in quick succession but it was a constant revolving door. the closest we had to a manager was the maintenance guy Mike, and while he did an awesome job managing the place, it wasn’t his job and he didn’t live in the building. Mike and Selma, neither of who work directly for the building but work –at– the building, are awesome. they’re the only awesome parts. once, a temp manager stole all the rent checks after getting fired. we were then lied to and told the checks were simply«lost» which is not okay. we weren’t allowed to change the thermostat in the gym, because we all apparently are 11 and not trustworthy. this was especially great since the sun shines right into the gym all afternoon and the temps can hit around 90 in there disappearing weights in the gym no paper towels or sanitizers to clean equipment in the gym CONSTANT dog urine in the halls and stairwells. smashed lights in the stairwells, broken lights in some hallways horrible water pressure a non secured bike rack and frequent enough thefts for me to have to put my bike in storage 0 community. there were maybe a handful of friendly people who lived there, and who i miss, but for the most part the turnover was so goddamn high that we never got to know our neighbors at all, which kinda sucked when you’d hear about neighboring buildings having pool parties or bbqs the only luxurious part about this place was having a washer/dryer in unit and the overall size(which is why they’re getting 2 stars instead of 1). otherwise the floors were made of cheap laminate, both our toilet seats fell off, the water pressure was terrible, the water was so hard all of our dishes were stained with chalky white stuff, problems with the mail, stairwells that were dog toilets, plumbing that is so messed up that huge bubbles would come out of the toilet when flushed(in all units we talked to neighbors about it), all in all just a miserable experience. maybe at some point they’ll get a manager who will stay or who will care about the building, but even seeing the decline in care over 1 year was really sobering. they were also total assholes about negotiating our lease as we were trying to either terminate or extend by 1 month to more easily facilitate me getting back to NY to deal with my dying dad. I don’t expect places to cater to every whim or need of their tenants, but they were just –real– callous dicks about it, which was lame considering we were really good tenants.
