So friendly, nursery well stocked. The place has a lived in feel, stuffed with useful looking things. Not a sterile corporate feel like Lowes or OSH. Super friendly help. Again, not quite like Lowes. I will be back again and again.

I love this place. Better prices, service, and selection than Home Depot. I was looking for big 2 foot wide round pieces of wood and I can’t believe they had them. I’m looking to buy a lot more wood soon, and I’m coming here!

The staff here could not have been more helpful! Andy helped me make my DIY table project seem effortless. He helped me through every step from sanding, staining, picking out screws, joining planks and even leaving room for growth if we ever wanted to expand. The guy who helped us pick out our lumber was awesome as well and cut it to size exactly where we wanted it cut in the grain pattern. These guys are in a completely different caliber to the help you get at Home Depot. Look no further for your home improvement needs or project.

I go here a lot since it is close to my house, but I won’t go back after tonight.
I’ve been here tons of times with my backpack, that is how I carry things when I go shopping. We all know the bag ban law has forced everyone to bring bags to the store so that you don’t have to pay for bags.
I went in tonight looking for paint trays and was right in the view of everyone, the registers, staff, everyone, just picking out a damn paint tray only for the security guard to single me out like a criminal and tell me I can’t have my backpack. Mind you I was on my way to the register to pay so I was quite taken aback. No where are there signs that say no backpack, I have seen that at some stores and no sorry I’m not going to leave my $ 90 backpack with you, that’s basically my purse. My wallet, cell phone and all my things are in it. What makes you think I can trust you then?
This store is already 3x more expensive than anywhere else I go, but I go for convenience. Then they’re gonna make you feel terrible for doing absolutely nothing wrong. I wasn’t opening and closing my backpack, hiding, acting all shady. I was standing there holding a paint tray looking at prices, in full view of everyone and making a decision on how much I was going to have to spend.
I won’t be back. I just feel so terrible and embarrassed after being made to feel like I was going to steal a $ 4 paint tray in front of the whole staff.
So stupid.

Since buying my house in Hollywood two years ago, I’ve made scores of trips to Home Depot. Two weeks ago I went to Anawalt for the first time. I’ve been back three times since then. I have no need to ever go to Home Depot again. John and Andy provided excellent customer service (as did someone in the nursery whose name I didn’t get). A friendly, well-​stocked but not overwhelming neighborhood store. Love it!

I needed a window air conditioner for my apartment, no big chain stores in the area had any in stock but this place did. When I called to ask they were friendly and checked to make sure they had them before I drove there. Price was a little higher than other places, for a 5,000btu ac I paid $ 145 when Home Despot .com and Amazon both advertised $ 100, but I didn’t mind paying more to get it that day.
Private lot parking, no problem finding a spot!

Great place! Bought lumber there today. Good product, good service, nice people. Don’t know why I never went there before, I live close. There will less trips to the big box chains for me.

Woohoo after a year on the waiting list, I finally was accepted into our neighborhood’s community garden! After the signing of paperwork, I headed down to Anawalt where I was told I would receive 10% off for mentioning our community garden.
Sandy was the employee that helped me! From explaining what soil I would need, to which plants/​veggies/​herbs he learned grow well to what mulch was, he really helped me get a grasp of gardening for dummies.

Excellent customer service inside and in the nursery. I am a beginner with house plants and they answered all of my questions. They were patient and knowledgable. They have a great selection too.

We stopped by to get a potted plant for my sister as she was coming home with her new baby today. I was actually shocked by the poor service. After the first employee we met told us they would pot a plant for us if we picked one out, a second employee acted as if we were crazy when we asked if they could help us with that («uh, well you can do that at home yourself»). He said they don’t do that on the weekends, but we were the only customers there early on Sunday morning.
The last straw for me was that after we paid (there was a $ 21.00 fee for putting our 3 small succulents in the pot) and walked back to the second employee to retrieve our plant, he became upset with us «can you not stand over my shoulder? Just go walk around or something.»
All and all it was just very clear to me that our business wasn’t valued and that it would have been better for everyone if we’d gone elsewhere for our purchase.

Been going there for years… I am one of those odd gay guys that likes wandering through a hardware store more than going to the Grove… Usually, I am trying to figure out how I can use that thing to fix that thing that broke three months ago that I forgot had been broken but remembered when I saw that thing that I figured I could fix it with… needless to say I am wandering around Anawalt for a while trapped in my own nearly lesbian existential dreamscape…
aside from all that… I get my painting supplies (drop cloths, medium size brushes, buckets)… gardening stuff (soil, plants, fertilizer)… and lots and lots and lots of gardening help… (all my questions begin with «I usually end up killing all the plants that have ever fallen into my hands…» followed by an extensive schematic of my gardening terrain… and they bring me to a selection of plants that are going to be fit. The really nice things is… I have not lost a plant in 5 years… and believe me… I did not grow a green thumb.

Good selection and good service. Much more convenient than Home Depot.
A little more expensive than Home Depot, but worth it when considering time and gas to go to Home Depot.

I stopped by to see if they had a particular paddywax candle and wound up buying way too many succulents. Though, you can never really have too many succulents. They had beautiful ceramic pots, with a really interesting glaze.
The gentleman who helped us out in the gardening area was amazing. Very kind and knew what he was talking about. I wish I could remember his name! He came back and have my sister and I a little flower as we were leaving too. It really brightened my day. :)

I am a green-​thumbed novice. I just started getting interested in planting herbs and tomatoes and peppers in the window sill planter boxes at my apartment. The first place that was recommended to me to go for potting soil and containers was Anawalt.
The employees go above and beyond here. They are seriously nice and actually care about your home projects. One very sweet man helped me with every aspect of the choosing and buying process and even carried my purchase to my car.
This is a breath of fresh air compared to the Home Depot in Hollywood, because you don’t get hounded by immigrant workers who think you need help with a remodel. Chill out bros, I just came here to buy a bike lock. I’m not installing a dishwasher or anything. I digress.
Anawalt = 5 stars!

Caution. In the last 5 years, every single bag of soil I’ve gotten here has had fungus gnats.
I’ve purchased several different soils and the gnats are there, without fail.
I keep trying because I want to support local but I’m done. I really don’t want a house/​garden full of insesctiicide after having to treat their infested soils.

Great personalized service not often found in Hollywood. One of the employees David helped me find a bolt and install it on my motorcycle. When I needed another part, he remembered me and asked how my bike was riding. Feels good to know that somebody actually cares.

I’ve picked up a new hobby: Terrariums!
Anawalt is much more personable and unique than Home Depot. Home Depot didn’t even know what horticulture charcoal was. They sent me to the BBQ department! I called Anawalt and spoke to Sandy. He has been working here for over 10 years, but with botany for much longer. He was knowledgable, welcoming, and had the charcoal I needed.
The nursery is sweet because it’s sectioned off in the corner of the private parking lot. Lovely displays. They have hanging humming bird feeders under the covered area and they were flitting around all over the place. So happy and carefree. Sandy said there is a nest that grooms little fat babies. They are fatter than the adults because they eat and don’t fly around as much. They hang out on the plant wires.
Everything looked healthy and vibrant. I love the selection of their little succulents. It’s nice because they have a lot of singles which are convenient for putting together terrariums. I’ll be back for sure!
Parking: Private lot with plenty of spaces. Not sure how crowded it gets on the weekends, but you can park on the connected side street also. Plenty open spots there too.
