The truck has pulled itself out of Park and driven off. No more delicious food. Through a Google search I saw a March 2011 posting saying that they plan to relocate soon. Anyone know where my sweet Antojitos de la Abuelita went? They made the best Mexican breakfast burrito I’ve had in Los Angeles(not to mention all their great dishes for lunch and dinner. Come back!

Before taco trucks were trendy, trucks like these couldn’t exist. There simply wasn’t a vehicle for innovative entrepreneurs to be able to push the boundaries of cuisine. With the current trend, as consumers we are more adept at taking a risk on a random trucks ability to provide quality food. Like all cooking, regional variances impact the palate perhaps greater than any other factor. In this country we don’t hesitate to consider that Boston is to clam chowder as what New Orleans is to gumbo. The same holds true for Mexican food. In this case, you have some amazing Mexico City style food. Pambazo won’t ever make the menu at El Torito or Acapulcos, or very many, if any, other Mexican restaurants in Los Angeles. Very similar to the torta, the pambazo is made with a type of regional bread dipped in a red guajillo pepper sauce and filled with papas con chorizo(potatoes with chorizo). I simply can’t do it justice. If you are NOT a fan of mole, I encourage you to give it one more try here. Mole is not like pizza(you know, how is pizza like sex… even when it’s bad its good…) poorly made, it is terrible. And with a dish that is so complex, it is easier to ruin mole that to make it average much less the fantastic creations that this little food truck that could is putting out in the Valley. And if you’ve never seen mole verde(green mole saouce) or mole rojo(red mole sauce) as opposed to the traditional chocolate based sauce you owe it to your taste buds to expand their horizons a bit. I warn you though, once expanded you’ll never look at any store bought mole’s the same– and for those of us fortunate enough to have family that even attempts this dish you may want to send them here for lessons. I’ve tried a wide variety of items on several different nights with few disappointments. That being said, there are better tacos in town, so don’t come here for that.(that’s why I knowked them a star. For great Taco’s try Don Cuco’s in Sylmar. well worth the drive.) Come with the intention of trying something new. Try regional Mexico City style food prepared with the love and passion. The name suits this venue perfectly, with the owner/operator/entrepreneur/cook reminding me of an abuelita anxious to please her guests with her culinary treats.

I am not a big fan of truck food(It’s mostly my own neurosis’s) but I asked my Mexican hair stylist where I could get legit Mexican food in LA(Which is surprisingly not easy?) and she recommended this place. It is a truck, but they are linked up with a piñata store they park in front of, and seriously you know it’s legit Mexican food when it’s in front of a piñata store… Another legit indication, a grandmother(Straight out of Mexico) is seriously in the truck making your food and her daughter works with her in the truck, so it has the family pride aspect as well, and the daughter is so helpful, took the time to tell me about a lot of different Mexican food, the regions they come out of, and everyone shouldn’t go asking for free samples, but I showed interest in trying mole, but was a little hesitant to order the full on mole chicken dish as I had already my customary 2 tacos and was trying a gordita that day… but they put together a mole sample just with some chips… Bottom line family business, cheap, tasty, fresh, light, clean, authentic, because there is a Mexican grandma in the truck making your food… and I am pretty sure«Abuelita» means grandma… If you have trouble finding it, it is on Vineland between Victory and Oxnard… close to the Target… Go support these local family folks… A mother, a daughter, making lovely Mexican food.

I had lunch here today and it was excellent. I started with 2 tacos, al pastor and barbacoa, both were delicious and the flavors were so authentic, it brought back memories of the tacos I used to eat many years ago during my trips to Mexico. I ended my meal with the quesadilla Huitlacoche which was just perfect. I washed it all down with a horchata, mm, mm good! I’ll be back soon.

Yeah this place really is one of the true taco truck gems in North Hollywood/Burbank. The claim all the meat and veggies are organic, and i dont know how you would really check, but it might explain why it tastes so much better than most taco trucks. I have tried the al pastor(great), the carne asada(pretty good), the cabeza(interesting…) and the chorizo(great). Additionally ive sampled some of their totally amazing vegetarian quesadillas, which are not to be missed if you come here. Seriously. Huitalocoche is delicious, as is the flor de calabaza. Olga is usually behind the grill and she is awesome. This place needs the support to stay open so go there.
