Art Mechanics specializes in custom picture framing, installation services, picture hanging, and art consulting.

Creative custom framing includes services such as conservation framing, matting, and glazing (glass). Some specialty services include, but are not limited to: gallery wrap canvas stretching, floater frames, shadow boxes, needle point stretching, french mat lines, glass floating, and stacked frames.

Installation services can be for anything from simple picture hanging, to locking security hanger systems. Or for practically anything that needs to be mounted to a wall ceiling or floor.

History

Established in 2010.

Art Mechanics is open to the public by appointment. Joseph, the owner, is usually at the shop from 2 – 8. But call to make sure because he could be out doing an installation, or house call.

Joseph is an artist and picture framer living in the Los Angeles area. He has been picture framing professionally since 2005. During his career he has held positions as frame shop manager, lead installer, and head preparator for various high end art companies/​galleries. Now he owns an art services company «Art Mechanics» which specializes in custom framing, art installation, art crating, and fine artwork.

His educational background includes specializations in woodworking, design, and sculpture. He graduated high school with a vocational degree in woodworking. Then, he earned a BFA in sculpture with a minor in design studies from Arizona State University. After college he continued his professional development by attending several certified picture framing workshops.

Joseph turned my photography purchases into a true works of art with his keen eye for matting and framing! The first time I used his services, I went in with a basic idea of what I wanted and after a brief discussion, he made several suggestions which had not even crossed my mind. Using the multitude of matting and framing samples in his studio, he illustrated a few of my favorite options from those we discussed. The final project was incredible and enhanced the beauty of my print. Everyone who sees the piece comments on how awesome it is and often note how perfect the matte and frame choice are for it. Since then, Joseph has been my go to framer! His work is always incredible and beautiful!

Joseph has an amazing work ethic, a sense of fairness, and a respect for his clients that is unmatched. Most importantly, I trust his eye and sense of design and proportion. He recently finished a beautiful job framing and matting 13 paintings for me and then hung a show of the work. Great framing can make a painting, and a great installation finishes the process off. He does it all.

I’m so happy I found Joseph at Art Mechanics! Definitely the place to go if you want or need museum quality framing. He offers regular glass, UV protected glass, and all acid free framing materials.
I needed some Dali pieces de-​framed for an appraisal, and I wanted someone who knew what they were doing. Enter Joseph! He did a fantastic job and also provided me with his professional opinion, which I value greatly. He proved to be extremely honest and knowledgeable about art.
In addition, Joseph framed a special art piece for me, and I loved the look of the final product. In my mind, going to get the piece framed by Joseph was the 2nd part of the art purchase process. It looks incredible, and he helped me make all the decisions necessary to really make the art stand out.
I really can’t recommend Joseph highly enough for your serious art framing or preservation needs. I wanted a professional who cares about art, and that’s what I found! Not only that, but I value his opinions and his eye for presentation!

Searching for a neighborhood yet professional business, I ended at a place where Joseph used to work. I have done business with them at least 3 times and I have nothing but AMAZING things to say. They had handled all my pieces with extraordinary professionalism, giclees, prints and a couple of (under some people’s eyes, pricey) originals. I always brought them to be handled by Joseph and Joseph ONLY. He made them look like museum pieces… Unbelievable!
One experience in particular (my last), I brought him an original sketch on paper, that was framed by an «expert» in original pieces of art. Unfortunately that «expert» decided to glue the piece to the back of the frame. After being turned down by experts on paper restoration places and been warned that if they could or even if they tried to do it, it would be around $ 500. Joseph took the time to research and do it himself. Of course I freed him from any responsibility if the piece got any damaged. The piece looks incredible!, he removed EVERYTHING!, it looks like it never had been glued, just like before and it looks just like it should!
Now he has his own bussiness and I followed him. I will, with any doubt, bring all my business, my referrals and anybody I can to him. He will work and offer you the best price (and he is very honest about it, you can tell he care about your business), he will assist you with decision making and he even offer hanging services, which I have use too. My walls now look great.
Please, trust me, I have nothing to do nor related to him in any way, just very happy and endlessly grateful for his work and for saving one of my most (if not the most) priced pieces.
