Atlantis Motor Motorcycle Garage

Honestly I’m usually sketched out by most mechanic shops from past car experiences so coming into the motorcycle world I was careful when choosing a place. I was actually suggested AMG by multiple people before giving them a shot and I’m very glad I did. They have been extremely helpful and love that they have that biker family vibe. I have taken my bike there for repairs and also purchased one from them. Their customer service and care for detail has def made me a loyal customer. Dan and John are the mans.

I was surprised to read some of the negative reviews of the staff as I found Daniel and company to be wonderful (Chris in particular was a delight). There were a few issues that kept them from getting five stars, but I want to be clear that I will absolutely be using them again.
Communication could have been better after the bike was dropped off (estimates were late and procedure that was laid out wasn’t always followed). And I was somewhat frustrated to find that after their initial scan of the bike they hadn’t checked for one of the original reasons I brought the bike in (oil leak). Finally, it took longer than expected to get my bike back, though that was partially due to the discovery of a new problem with the bike.
With that said, that additional issue they found was handled wonderfully (brake issue), the communication when it happened was always very clear and friendly, and their prices were reasonable.
I got the bike back and it’s running great.
It seems to me that many of the issues that kept them from being five stars is that they may be understaffed for the volume of business… but that’s because they have many happy customers.
While five stars is reserved for perfection, Atlantis is a wonderful place to get your bike serviced and I was really impressed by the team there. I’ll definitely be bringing my bike back.

My KLR was a run down piece of junk and the mechanics at Atlantis fixed it up for a price that I thought was extremely reasonable and fair. What would take me 8 — 10 hours to fix takes the mechanics 2 — 3 hours.
Atlantis is the best shop in LA. It truly is. Why? Because the owner has integrity and if something isn’t right with your bike they will make sure it’s right. Every time I go I feel like I am a close friend of John the owner. The mechanics are very transparent with what needs to be done to your bike and how much time it took to fix something.
They have an awesome tow service that is super cheap. I called them and needed my big old KLR towed from Santa Monica — $ 50 bucks! I thought it’d be at least $ 100.
Their service is super quick too. My bike is in and out every time. I was riding the LA B to V ride and needed my bike serviced in 24 hours. John Q made it happen. Adam was the mechanic that did it. Really smart guy, knows his bikes thats for sure.

Such a great shops. I had my garage broken into and my tools stolen in the middle of me changing my battery. I took all my parts and bike to the shop and they put back together super quick and cheap.

Daniel and the team at Atlantis take great care of my ride. Better than I do. Highly recommended for all levels of motorcycle service.

Let me first say that I haven’t had my bike serviced here (yet), but rather I purchased one from the shop that they were selling on consignment that had all its work done here. That work was done well on a vintage (’71) bike. It runs/​stops well and sounds like a sewing machine. Before I get into my review, I’d like to address three things.
1. If you Google «Atlantis Motors», the first hit will be the shop site and the second will be a video of the shop’s alleged theft. I can’t vouch for either party not knowing the situation, but will say that it’s a shame.
2. I’ve read reviews claiming that the shop has a «hipster too cool for you» attitude and would have to say that this is not accurate. Though I’m from the area, I now live on the eastern side of SGV. John has never been anything other than kind and accommodating and had nothing to go on other than my e-​mail address and later a phone call.
3. I’ve also read that their rates are high. I’d agree to an extent, but, y’know what? It comes with the area. Silverlake has gotten expensive and they gotta keep their lights on. That being said: stay local and keep the silver in Silverlake (remember that campaign?)
Anyway, John had posted an ad for a ’71 CB350 that caught my attention. I e-​mailed him for details and after a few exchanges we settled on a price provided he would send me a video of the bike running so I could make my judgement (this was in the evening and he filmed/​sent me a video the next afternoon). The motor sounded great and we had a deal in place so we scheduled for a tow/​delivery. Tow truck guy was great. I’ve had conversations about life/​Los Angeles with both him and John at good length. Gave the bike a thorough once over and took delivery.
Smooth transaction. I got a bill of sale and a clean title from Atlantis and even a bunch of tips on how to keep an older machine running at its best. Again, I can’t say that I’ve had an experience with them servicing MY machine, but if, in fact, the machine I received had been serviced by Atlantis, I would vouch for them.
From what I can tell, this Honda’s had a fair bit done to it. Gas tank/​seat pan, battery box and ignition repositioned, exhaust, etc. and all of it has been done well.

I loved the shop. My bike died mid-​wilshire. AAA takes one week to let you tow bikes so I was screwed there.
Atlantis had my bike towed there for 5o bucks.
I didn’t have to be at the bike, I was at work.
Jamie called me and said what was wrong. She is amazing with her understanding of my needs and took care of me. I really enjoyed the service. It was not over priced, just right.

I brought my Suzuki Intruder here a while back and would not go again. The woman who answered the phone was rude to me. Not just little.
I brought my bike in there. They put in a brand new battery when I had just gotten a new battery in and it probably could have been charged. Then they said I needed an entirely new clutch.
I had just had my clutch rebuilt the year prior to that.
I said no way was I going to let them rebuild the clutch. I called the tow truck and had my motorcycle taken to another mechanic. The problem? It needed clutch fluid!!!
That mechanic put in some clutch fluid and it worked just fine saving me several hundred dollars.
I would never trust your motorcycle with these idiots!
Go somewhere else.

My bike, recently brought back to life after months of sitting, stalled out hard just a block from this place. I walked over and asked if I could buy some gas and get a jump. Staff were helpful, topped me off with gas, as well tested and jumped my battery free of charge. Just riders helping each other out. I’ll definitely be back here if I need service I can’t handle at home. Some beautiful bikes for sale in the yard, stop by and take a look.

Overall, I had a fine experience at Atlantis Motor, but just fine. The prices are generally reasonable and employees seem to genuinely want to help, but unfortunately I don’t think that I will be coming back for a couple reasons. The first of which being the customer service. I was told several times that «We aren’t making any money on this,» and usually after having to bring my bike back for work they didn’t finish or do right the first time! Communication between employees is also very poor. Ive been told multiple contradictory things depending on who I ended up talking to.
Another issue I had was with the actual repairs. A few times I was told my bike was ready, only to discover things not actually working as they should. Each time requiring me to bring the bike back for another week or more of work. I spent a small fortune in time, bus, and Über fares carting myself back and forth between my home and Atlantis in order to deal with all these mistakes.
When picking my bike up the last time, I asked for recommendations on new handlebars. I was told my current hardware could be adjusted for a potentially better fit. Graciously, things were quickly adjusted to get a better fit and I was content… but then, while dealing with paperwork, they moved my bike and the new handlebar configuration scratched and dented my freshly painted tank! I should have left it there to have the damage they caused fixed, but I left to avoid further confrontation. Having just had to deal with an employee insisting that I pay for work they were re-​doing from the last time. And again getting the «we aren’t making any money on this» line.
I know the challenges working in a service industry and tried to be understanding, but was too forgiving when dealing with the Atlantis folk. Ya live ya learn. I don’t want to leave a flaming bag of crap at their doorstep, but I won’t be coming back for repairs or recommending them to friends.

On account of having found other garages that lack the hipster price boost and are capable of of one or two day service, I have to lower my rating of Atlantis. They certainly get it done, but at an hourly rate that mirrors the generally overpriced trend of everything in a «cool» neighborhood. Also, like I said, there are places you can find that will get work done in a day or two. Credit Atlantis for doing good work. That’s why they are so busy. But I can’t go for two weeks without my ride.

I called early one afternoon asking if they could install a new tire and tube on my 73 moot guzzi v7. I was told that if I could be there in less than an hour they would make it happen — and they did.
The tire change was quick and fairly priced, any parts that were removed got a nice cleaning before reinstalling and I was asked what pressure I would like the tire set to.

I knew something was wrong when I turned up at this place & it wasn’t underwater.
Having said that, The Man From Atlantis (and the lady too for that matter) is cooler than thou, disinterested in thou, lazier than thou, definitely more hipster than thou and woe betide thee if thou ask for anything to be done that could encroach upon their leaving on time i.e. about noon.
With at least two Gold Star motorcycle shops within spitting distance this is a pretty odd policy but I never quite got my head around the whole hipster thing…

This review is long, long, long overdue… I have been going to Atlantis for years and they have always treated me well. John (the owner) is a superb guy and the rest of the staff I have dealt with have always been welcoming, detailed (in diagnosis) and honest with me. They have always gotten the work done correctly the first time and when I’ve had minor issues I just roll by and they help me out… often times free of charge. I went in just the other day because my threaded ignition ring had vibrated off whilst riding… John dug through a box and came back a min later with the part. He put it on and didn’t charge me a thing. AWESOME!

Took my vintage BMW there to have some custom work done. Decided to green light fork work, carb tuning, fluid change, etc despite the price being quoted at least 1.5 to 2 times higher than other local shops. Everything came out sub par. The forks were not tuned, the spark plugs were burning out early (carburetor issue) the electrical was wired up in a complete mess (other shops i took it to for assessment laughed at the work done).
Most other shops refrain from making any negative comments against a competing shop i noticed, out of general decency. But in reference to Atlantis, most mechanics, shop owners, riders etc seem to let loose.
Its been a while since i have removed my bike from this shop (about a year) and still have a bad taste in my mouth with the dealings.
Perhaps they have made adjustments in their expertise and customer service since then, so give em a try if you wish… Just keep this in mind when first approaching them. Let them earn your work.

So I normally do my own oil changes, but I just bought a motorcycle that had not been turned on in about a year. I brought it to Atlantis for an oil change, a fuse change and a light cover replacement. They checked my bike real quick and said that they didn’t have the specific oil that my bike needed, but if I was willing to wait an hour and a half they could go get it and have my bike ready for me. I said no problem and they suggested a few places for me to chill while they work on my bike. When I got back, they offered me some water and said that my bike should be finished in a couple minutes.
They replaced my burnt out fuse and found a light for my bike. They took off the cover from their light to replace mine.
In the end, about four people kept me updated on the work on my bike and gave me tips for the future.
Great group of people. I’m glad I came here.
My Bike: 09 Harley Nightster 1200XL

First time bike rider here and if im not mistaken most people who go to motorcycle repair shops are those who either dont want to do the work, or don’t know much about motorcycles.
First impression i walk in semi aimlessly only to notice the guy who works there staring at me like im a weirdo, then just asks «what do you need.» no hey welcome or anything.
after the first few awkward minutes i definitely felt like i was part of the geeky kids at school and they were the 2cool4school guys.
not too welcoming or understanding that maybe i just dont know that much about motorcycles. thats why im here to get help.

I Really wanted this place to work out as it’s the only shop around the area, because of this I put up with a lot more than I normally would have.
I have had work done here several times and every visit involved at least one trip back to have them begrudgingly fix up some sloppy overlooked detail or another. One time they put my blinkers in the wrong place and when confronted, they acted very indignant and had me pay labor to put them back.
The staff are all cool enough but not very friendly or professional. They are very bad about returning calls or calling you when your bike is done and they get somewhat hostile if there happens to be any disagreement (the female receptionist especially). The parts are all grossly marked up and the hourly rate is about the same as the dealership.
I put up with these annoyances for a while and justified the $ 95/​hr for sloppy work as a convenience fee but it’s hard to do that when you constantly have to go back and argue and pay to redo things you have already done.
Bottom line is you might as well go to a dealership– you could find a lot of bike shops that will do better work for less money and nicer more professional demeanor.

I called in for a quick estimate on how much they would charge to change my front brake pads on my v star, I told him I already had the pads and just needed them to do the labor. The guy said it would take 1 hour and cost $ 95.00!!! to replace front brake pads…

Just an FYI AL’s Bike shop was going to charge me $ 20.
I would have gone to Al’s if they didn’t have such low reviews.
