Bal Tailoring

I found them via Groupon.
I did not tell them right away that I had a groupon, I asked them how much it cost to hem a pair of formal evening pants. They told me it was $ 10. I thought that was reasonable. So I told them I have a Groupon and I like to hem a t-​shirt as well. They said, oh the t-​shirt is $ 15.
Well … I don’t understand why it’ll be so much more for a casual t-​shirt Nevertheless, the two items came to $ 25, the value of my Groupon. So I told them. That’s all I want to do. He then asked me what else I had in my bag that needed to be worked on. I told him another t-​shirt. He told me he’d hem that one for me for $ 10.
After all that, I had no desire to give him another dime above the value of my Groupon, so I said no thank you.

I lowered my review from three to two stars… this place is fine for hemming jeans or fixing zippers, but i recently brought in a dress to be altered and am quite upset that the dress is pretty much ruined. The dress is strapless, corset-​style with a low, low back. I needed them to take in the chest but the rest of the dress was fine. Somehow, they ended up taking in the side/​back instead of the chest so that when I got the dress back, it was suddenly too tight in the back (couldn’t zip all the way up anymore and I’m pretty sure I didn’t gain a grip of weight in two days) but still too loose in the front. Also, the way they altered the dress made the sides kind of flip out so it looks weird when I wear it.
Sad. I loved that dress.

I found these guys through Groupon, I was hesistant at first. I had a lot of clothes — pants, jeans and shirts that needed alterations since I used to buy bigger size clothes. I had shirts sitting in my closets that I have not worn in years because
they were just simply too big, I had stylish designer jeans that were too baggy or were boot cut that I would prefer slim fit now.
Here comes Groupon to the rescue, they introduced me to Enrique’s Tailoring. My first time here I brought one pant and a shirt for alteration in order to try their work out, I was so pleased that I have since taken about five shirts, two work dress
pants and three designer jeans. They were able to turn my straight leg and boot cut jeans to slim fit jeans and the jeans’ original hems were kept on them. Enrique’s junior was very helpful and he even offered to fix a shirt that I had previously
had altered at a different nearby tailor. I strongly recommend these guys for all your tailoring and alteration needs.

Stay away from Bal Tailoring!!! Like so many others, I had been going here for YEARS when it was owned by the previous guy. Until the new ownership took over.
The last time I went there like a year ago, it was «OK» not the greatest work but I could live with it. But this time…
I took 2 pants and 2 shirts there just a few weeks ago. Was charged $ 120 for alternations. They did not TOUCH the pants when my wife picked them up for me a week later. The chalk marks were still on there, and even one of the pins was in there too. One of the shirts was fine, the other had HORRIBLE stitching showing, ruining the sleeves.
I’ve already placed a dispute with the CC company, got my money back, and now have found another tailor to go to.
Very disappointed. I had been a loyal customer for years and loved the location, pricing, service, etc. But the new ownership has no clue what they are doing. With so many other options around town, there’s no reason to go here.

Seriously just don’t go to Enrique Tailoring. If you’re thinking about it, just stop. It is no longer owned or operated by Bal, and the new management is poor in quality, customer service, and efficiency. The manager actually raised his voice to me when I asked him to fix the sleeve on my suit because it was sloppy. Also, the buttons popped off the very next day. Mind you, I am talking about a brand new, high-​quality designer suit here. And it took them 2 WEEKS to finish it.
I might as well have tried to make alterations myself. Go elsewhere, and if you find another tailor nearby, PLEASE SHARE!

Wow. This place SUCKS.
Bal’s is under new management and it’s a shame because the work is horrible. I brought a romper to get altered (sides taken in and shortened). I seriously had to go back 3 times because they couldn’t get it right. The crotch was too tight, the shorts were uneven, etc. They brought in the sides but didn’t take in the pockets. Ultimately I was so frustrated that I decided to pay half and take the romper somewhere else to be fixed. What a waste of time and money. Hopefully another tailoring store will be able to salvage it.
I am shocked that they consider themselves a professional business.

My aunt told me about Bal Tailoring.
I’ve been going to them for 10 years. Don’t have things tailored too often but when I do, I go there. I even asked if they would sew some curtains for me, and they were really good sports about it.
You can’t beat their prices.
One caveat is that Mr. Bal is one of the only people who speaks English there, so sometimes it’s hard to get special requests across, but if it’s just a straight up hem, etc. these guys really know what they are doing.

I’ve been going to Bal’s for a few years now and have had suits, pants, jeans, shirts and other things tailored there. I actually checked out the place from Unilocal reviews. I don’t know if Bal is still there or not, but I always see the same guys working there and they are very helpful. Check them out if you are looking for a tailor.

Not impressed. I brought in my wedding gown to be taken in. I know sometimes wedding gown alterations can be a lot of work, but my gown only needed to be taken in a tad. Anyway, sure, they took it in, and yeah, it ended up fitting me. But there was a pretty sorry lack of attention to detail: (1) my dress was heavily beaded and i found a bunch of loose beads and thread hanging off the area they worked in. Couldn’t they spend an extra 10 minutes snipping off those loose ends? (2) my gown had a zippered back – that bit of fabric that is folded and sewn over the zipper was just done poorly. The fabric puckered out, looking quite ugly. All they needed to do was run the whole thing under the sewing machine for one more seam – closer to the edge of the zipper and it would have been fine. (3) I asked them to put in a simple over-​bustle. Looked fine when I brought it home, but it ripped out during the reception.
I guess looking back now, could have asked them to re-​sew the zipper portion, but given what I had mentioned about the loose beads and thread, I was too scared to have them manhandle my dress again. I ended up going home and painstakingly sewed down the zipper seam by hand.
Just wasn’t impressed by them, particularly since they advertise as specializing in wedding gown alterations, amongst other things.

Kudos to Bal as they gave me a great price for taking in my wedding gown. The –2 stars preventing a five star review is the fact that I found two pins still in my dress on my wedding day and the bustle ripped within an hour into the reception (and yes, i had a cathedral length gown — not fun to lug around slung over your arm for three hours). That being said, I did have an Irish drinking band performing at the wedding and perhaps cathedral gowns were not created to withstand four hours of Irish-​jigging, but I was only dancing for one and I wish the bustle would’ve made it at least half way through…

I’ve been going to Bal Tailor for 8 years, and after the recent change in management (and the absence of Bal himself), I’m never going back. Don’t get me wrong, I’m heartbroken to lose my tailor, but after today’s experience, I can safely say that they won’t have my business ever again.
Being smaller than the average 12-​year-​old, I have to get all of my clothes altered. I loved that they would do original-​seam hemming on my jeans and have brought all my roommates and friends to them for alterations. But recently their work quality has gone down and prices have gone up.
The final straw was the two pairs of jeans that I brought in last week. I wore the same shoes for both, tried them on one after the other, and asked for them to be hemmed at the same length to go with the shoes. When I picked them up, one pair was 2.5″ shorter than the other… and they tried to blame it on me.
I can’t even wear them with flats and now have a useless pair of pricey jeans… and no tailor. After a lengthy discussion and their continual insistence that it wasn’t their fault, I left for good.
I hope that Bal (wherever he is) is on a nice well-​deserved vacation and that the new guys don’t received the benefit of the doubt from old customers.

I love these people. They are really good, super fast and very reasonably priced. They are very friendly. They do not charge extra for rush jobs. I pretty much would go straight from Barneys with my purchases to Bal.
I once tried to stray and asked a different, closer tailor shop in Beverly Hills if they could do a super hem (original hem on jeans) in one afternoon. They were very hesitant, asked me straight out whether I lived around there and whether I would give them repeat business, and then quoted me $ 45. I decided to go back to Bal in my old neighborhood. Bal cheerfully did it in 20 minutes, no questions, for $ 15. How can you not love them? I went around and browsed in Nordstrom while I was waiting. (I could also have gone to the new Red Mango across the street on Pico … love Red Mango … but that’s another review …)
Free parking in the back if you’re rushing in and out.
If you’re going to the mall, you can also park in the Barnes and Noble/​Landmark lot or the Westside Pavilion lot on the other side of Westwood, and walk over to Bal because it’s just a few storefronts west of the Landmark on Pico.

I’ve been taking my clothes to Bal Tailoring for over eight years, but after several disappointments scattered through the years and a few recent ones, I have finally decided to never go back.
Recently their work has been really shoddy and the prices have gone up (not a good combination).
I brought a suit in to have the sleeves and skirt hem shortened. The sleeves were done unevenly and the skirt was not sewn straight across. They also either used a product or maybe burned the fabric of the suit so that the fabric around the hems are stiff and strange looking and feeling. I was so disappointed with the workmanship on my very expensive suit. Bal and crew didn’t seem to think there was anything wrong with how it looked. After this experience I vowed to only bring in pants to be hemmed.
The three pants I just picked up all were done terribly. All the pants were sewn unevenly and the hems were really, really wide making them look very amateurish.
I’m sorry that is has taken me this long to finally come to the conclusion that if I value my clothes I should not bring them here to be altered.

I had a really bad experience here. I thought they were very unprofessional and rude. I brought in two pairs of pants to get hemmed. Keep in mind that I wore the same shoes during the fitting as the ones I wore when I picked them up. I tried on the pants and they were still too long. When I asked if they could shorten it more, they charged me for it (even though based on the reviews here it’s supposed to be free) because they accused me of LYING that I wasn’t wearing the sames shoes! First of all, I wasn’t lying. Second, it’s such poor form to accuse your customer of lying.
The second pair of pants I got hemmed was also a shoddy job. The pants were pinstripes, and when they hemmed it, they misaligned the pinstipes at the cuff on the bottom.
Rude sketchy people, and I’m never, ever going to give them my business again.

I discovered Bal Tailoring at Nordstrom of all places. I was looking to buy a suit there and they told me that they outsource all their tailoring to Bal. I figured that if Nordstrom trusts them, I should too.
Bal Tailoring is located on Pico (in between the Westside Pavillion and Islands). At certain times of the day, parking can be difficult. While Bal does have a parking lot, there are only two spaces and it’s in the back. Not exactly convenient.
With the exception of one suit jacket, I’ve been very satisfied with Bal’s work. The stitching never comes undone and they know what they’re doing. Their prices are a bit on the high side, but they do have coupons that you can download from their website.
4 stars for Bal Tailoring.

I give this place 3.5 stars.
They have coupons online that will save you some money.
They’re a little slow on the turn around for the initial work, but if you need a redo, they’ll do it really quickly.
They do a good job on the stitch. They offer two different kinds (original & regular) for varying prices.
They have two parking spaces in the back. Not very convenient to get to. There’s usually one empty. Additional parking in the neighborhood and at the meters on Pico.
I had to return for a redo because the first time around, the pants turned out way too long still. But they gladly fixed it, free of charge. The extra .5 star is because of that. Otherwise, I wasn’t too impressed.

I was in need of a tailor and based on some positive Unilocal-​age, I decided to give Bal a try. A+ all around. Great service and perfect results!

For 10 years, I’ve been going to Bal and Tony for my many tailoring needs. They understand that pants are worn fashionably long and that skirts are most flattering on me knee-​length. They are reasonably priced and do such great altering that you can’t even tell any alterations were done. Over the years, Bal has also altered ugly bridesmaid dresses, skirts I bought on sale 10 sizes too big, and my designer jeans. Just don’t ever lose your ticket. Their system is manual, so if lose your ticket, you will end up searching racks of clothes for your own. Check their website for coupons and specials before you go. They are located next to Westside Pavilion with parking in the back alley.

My sister has been going here since forever. They do great work and have a quick turnaround.
I took a bridesmaid dress here at the last minute because the stupid Korean bridal place totally messed up on some alterations. Bal did his magic and my dress fit perfectly on wedding day.

In a rare attempt to be both serious and helpful to Unilocalers in the Westside, let me share this: If you’re ever in a bind to find a good tailor then head over to Bal, just a couple stores west of the Westside Pavilion right before Islands. For really fair pricing, they’ve altered many a pair of jeans, cheap suits from H&M and even fixed a sleave on a jacket that had been sewn wrong from the factory (yes, I know; I would have returned if it I could, but I ordered the damn thing from Japan. Who knows what their return/​exchange policy is like?). The slave workers are super friendly and work fast.
