I don’t have much experience with Birria, so take my advice with a grain of salt. Betty’s birria stand is literally 2 gazebos and a couple of foldable plastic tables set up on the corner of Medford and Tremont st. When I went there was 4 ladies behind their stand., 2 were serving food and attending to the customers, one was making condiments and another was making fresh tortillas out of the masa. There’s two pots there one containing the goat meat and another pot containining the soup. I ordered una vaso de birria for $ 7 which is i got the regular sized serving of birria stew, It comes with a foam cotaniner which they half fill with meat and then they cover it up with the soup from the other pot. They gave me a packet with 5 freshly made corn tortillas, a baggie of green hot sauce and a baggie of red hot sauce and a baggie of onions/cilantro and a piece of lime. I probably should’ve asked them how should I eat it in retrospect. I kind of split my package into two ways of eating it, one I took some of the birria and made tacos with it and the rest I kind of did it up like menudo and just ate it like a stew. The meat was tender and it had a nice warm rich taste, with lots of cumin in the broth. Anyway it was decent, would I eat it again… I probably would. Would I go out of my way to eat it… probably not. But unless you lived in this area, I doubt you would ever stumble upon this place. If you do, try it, the ladies were quite nice. They only speak spanish though, so if you’re not proficient then just use some hand gesturing :) They also make quesadillas with the birria, if soupy stuff isn’t your thing.
